To think that gay and lesbian people should be able to have a conference in peace

Transactivists have tried to disrupt the LGBA conference by releasing insects into the venue. It's disgusting . Because they don't think gay men and lesbians should be allowed to meet peacefully without them.

No one is stopping transpeople from having events by themselves, why shouldn't gay men and lesbians be able to meet if that's what they want to do? It's just repackaged homophobia - same sex attracted people aren't allowed to have their own conference.

It’s not accurate.

In what way is it inaccurate?

And it’s transphobic to suggest that recognising and respecting gender is inherently homophobic or harmful to gay people. it’s saying that we must not even talk about, respect or give legitimacy to the existence of trans people as to do so is fundamentally damaging to gay people- that’s the bit about existing to make trans people “disappear” that I referred to in my first post on this thread

It doesn't say anything the existence of trans people or wanting to make them disappear. It says that when sexual attraction is defined in terms of gender, that makes a mockery of same-sex attracted people as it does not respect their sexuality. And that is a threat to gay and bi people given that sexuality is a protected characteristic.

All People must be allowed to define their sexuality as feels authentic to them, and have their sexuality respected. This is not a trivial right- it is fundamental to the person.

All people must also be allowed to define their gender as feels authentic to them and have their gender respected. This is not a trivial right- it is fundamental to the person.

These two things are not in contradiction with one another.

Presenting the second as a threat to the first (which is the idea that LGBA exist to promote) is both confused (bad theory/ science) and transphobic.

TheKeatingFive · 13/10/2024 12:20

I feel so sorry for todays young lesbians as the likes of Nancy Kelley tries to blackmail them into accepting men into their dating pools and suggesting that not to do so makes them equivalent to racists.

It's just awful. Coming out on the 90s was much preferable to this.

TiramisuThief · 13/10/2024 12:21

PiggleToes · 13/10/2024 12:10

she was saying that to say you don’t fancy someone because they are trans is analogous to saying you don’t fancy someone because they are black.

That is an offensive and racist thing to say. Absolutely astonishing that anyone could think this is a legitimate argument.

jeaux90 · 13/10/2024 12:22

@PiggleToes the fact you won't answer the question says alot about you.

Are lesbians and gay men same sex attracted? Yes or no

Should lesbians be legally allowed to have female only spaces and dating apps? Yes or no

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/10/2024 12:22

Why does the LGBA have to include anyone other than LGBA? Why is it wrong to come back to same sex attraction is real?

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 13/10/2024 12:23

What’s homophobic is the idea that lesbians in particular - because it usually is us - should be pressured to have sex with biological males.

I suppose you think the Cass Report is transphobic too & that it’s great for under-18s to have mastectomies & be on drugs whose effects on children’s brains and bodies have never been fully researched properly.

No, LGBA is simply there because all the organisations supporting LGBT etc rights have forgotten that LGB people define their sexuality based on sex not gender

eg, lesbians who ‘don’t do dick’ being ejected from Pride, Nancy Kelly of Stonewall (at the time) saying ….sexual racist (see above) etc.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/10/2024 12:24

All People must be allowed to define their sexuality however they want.

People must also be allowed to have their gender respected.

These two things are not in contradiction with one another.

They are. And that's why the LGB Alliance exists, because the CEO of a charity founded to support gay rights thinks exclusive same sex attracted people are like racists.

titchy · 13/10/2024 12:25

All People must be allowed to define their sexuality however they want.

Agree

Agree

These two things are not in contradiction with one another.

Well they can contradict each other obviously. A lesbian only night in a pub for example.

Presenting the second as a threat to the first (which is the idea that LGBA exist to promote) is both confused (bad theory/ science) and transphobic.

The second can be a threat - again a lesbian only night. The host has the right as you correctly say to define that as bio females only. Including gender means that bio males who id as women should also be included. That's a threat to the right of same sex attracted people to exclude bio males.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/10/2024 12:27

Trans is not a sexuality and should never have been included under the ridiculous LGBTAI+++++ umbrella. The damage being done to young gay people, and young lesbians in particular is absolutely disgusting. Kids mutilating their healthy bodies and lesbian girls having their breasts removed is not some I would ever support.

this is transphobia

I am all ears to find out how you back that hyperbolic claim up

One member of this group (not apparently present in the hall yesterday) is believed to be the eldest child of the Fox-Killer, who of course has raised very large sums for the Good Law Project, in spite of having an extremely low success rate. No doubt the child has been watching and learning.

Oh now that would make sense around a lot of the absolutely krappenshite out there on X in some quarters!

Does the UK allow girls to have breast tissue removed?!

Define yourself as whatever you want, as long as you respect that there are times when sex trumps gender. A conference for people who are same sex attracted is one of those times.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/may/29/if-lesbian-prefers-same-sex-dates-thats-not-bigotry-desire-personal-thing

"Cotton ceiling is a reference to lesbians’ knickers. It is a riff on the glass ceiling and posits that just as the professional advancement of women is hindered by sexism, the sexual acceptance of trans women is impeded by the “transphobia” of lesbians attracted only to females. It was Cathryn McGahey QC, a witness for Garden Court, who drew the analogy between this workshop exploring how “ideologies of transphobia and transmisogyny impact sexual desire” and South African racial integration and who implied it was possible in a non-coercive way to persuade a same-sex attracted lesbian she might want to have sex with a trans woman."

If a lesbian only desires same-sex dates that’s not bigotry, it’s her right | Sonia Sodha

At Allison Bailey’s employment tribunal, breaking the ‘cotton ceiling’ was equated to racial integration, an idea that is as wrong as it is dangerous

This isn't difficult, really.

Ohyoudodoyou · 13/10/2024 12:36

The crumbling walls of this nonsense (stonewall losing lots of contracts, mermaids being investigated, lots of tribunals being won by gender critical women, a massive turnaround in people speaking up and taking the piss out of all the misgendering whinging) is very welcome indeed. The sad fact is that the rainbow flat, formerly a pleasing sign when in pubs and climbs and meaning tolerance, has now been completely dragged into the mud because of straight men barging their way into everyone's previously respected spaces. So yeah, it is about toilets.

So it’s “homophobic” to say that gender is more important than sex.

But it’s totally fine for you to say that “sex trumps gender”, and this is not at all transphobic?

Here’s a radical idea- how about neither one “trumps” the other , that they are both simply different characteristics of a person. (Sexuality being another characteristic). And we should be able to describe these characteristics and organise our society in a way that respects them all, and that nobody should be ever coerced into having sex or dating anyone they don’t want to.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/10/2024 12:38

And same-sex attracted people can get on with talking about stuff which affects same-sex attracted people without having to deal with crickets (or whatever)? Good idea - I like that!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/10/2024 12:40

Im sure LGB Alliance would be happy if trans rights activists left them alone and agreed to disagree.

I imagine this is all/exactly what the LGBA is trying to say.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I imagine they are saying: trans people - this is not really the place for you if you believe in gender rather than sex.
Each to their own. LGB people that believe that sex is non mutable is their own. Trans people that believe that gender can replace sex and that sex is mutable is their own.
Trans people need to leave LGB people that don't believe sex is mutable alone - just leave them the fuck alone.
Go mess with someone else's head. The LGBA want to remain apart from it all.

Because it's othering black people?
