Survey at work using the term cis woman

1000 replies

SuzanneRogers · 06/10/2024 13:16

So I filled all the survey, very happy at work, public secror.
Note that this survey is outsourced by another survey organisation.

Then I come to the last bit please describe your role in the organisation, did that, and then how would you describe your sex or gender?

( Can’t remember exactly how the question was phrased )but the only option for women was “cis woman.”

Quite cross about this and I’m not sure how to best articulate this to my managers who, to be fair never use this term and will not have had any input to designing the survey. Any input welcome.

@NewFriendlyLadybird thanks.

So men and women are human adults.

A man is someone whose sex is male.
A woman someone whose sex is female.

Gender as a construct is something lots of people don't believe applies to them in any way shape or form - so cannot be used to define them as man woman or anything else at all.

And sports...

Survey at work using the term cis woman

PiggleToes · 06/10/2024 16:23

This debate is honestly so ridiculous. It only makes sense from a trans exclusionary perspective.

How about instead of “cis” we just say “woman (not trans)” it would mean exactly the same thing. That ok with you?

Or how about, instead of "cis", we just say "woman" (everyone knows what it really means). That OK with you?

NewFriendlyLadybird · 06/10/2024 19:40

Rosscameasdoody · 06/10/2024 19:36

It’s not stereotyping. It’s one more example of how men harm women. This time by hiding in plain sight.

Yeah. Men.

supercalie · 06/10/2024 19:40

Similarly I don't think infidel defines me and it is offensive to ask me to self label as one in order to include your world view.

Also: I don't self identify as such.

Thfrog · 06/10/2024 19:40

Rosscameasdoody · 06/10/2024 19:12

If they’re not trans, then they’re handmaidens. Take your pick.

Seriously what's with the handmaiden thing? We aren't in a book.

Pebbles16 · 06/10/2024 19:40

Scutterbug · 06/10/2024 13:25

There really are bigger hills to die on.

Not really, when your sex is being "moderated" for inclusion politics

YellowphantGrey · 06/10/2024 19:40

KeyboardMash · 06/10/2024 13:23

If you're not trans then you're cis. I honestly don't even know what you think it means?!

Why don't we push the CIS title onto men the same way we try to force it onto a woman?

If a man is allowed to be just a man, then I'm allowed to be just a woman, which is exactly what I am.

SpudleyLass · 06/10/2024 19:41

Has the entire concept of ''safeguarding'' been cancelled or something?

Safeguarding necessitates the ''discrimination''if you will, of groups or behaviour traits in order to achieve a legitimate aim - generally, protecting the vulnerable.

Its why we have DBS checks for certain employment.

soupfiend · 06/10/2024 19:41

NewFriendlyLadybird · 06/10/2024 19:28

Ah, ‘they’.

Am I right in thinking that your anti trans stance only really applies to trans women? You’d happily accept a trans man in a female only space — except you probably wouldn’t because you’d think he was a man, invading women’s spaces.

I grant that there are men who have seemingly pretended to be trans women in order to sexually assault women. But those aren’t trans women, those are men. And there’s a very small number of them. And I totally agree that trans women shouldn’t compete in sports where their residual muscular strength will give them an unfair advantage. But again there are only a tiny number of cases. In fact, I can only think of one.

Even if an actual trans woman has personally harmed you, that is still no reason to stereotype a whole group.

If by trans man you mean a biological woman, yes she is welcome in a female only space, because she is.... wait for it.... a biological woman and therefore female.

Trans women (men) should go into the male only spaces.

Thats how it works.

I’m not trans. Not ‘cis’ either.
I’m an adult human female = WOMAN.

SuzanneRogers · 06/10/2024 19:28

Really? I once saw a woman blow drying her fanny in a gym changing rooms.

😧

Thfrog · 06/10/2024 19:40

Seriously what's with the handmaiden thing? We aren't in a book.

The handmaid reference just means that you uphold the patriarchy alongside men and don't argue or fight against it.

Your choice of course.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2024 19:42

Yeah. Men.

Yes, just like "trans women" are. If you disagree, perhaps you could explain how they are different in this respect to other members of the male sex?

SpudleyLass · 06/10/2024 19:42

NewFriendlyLadybird · 06/10/2024 19:40

Yeah. Men.

Transwomen ARE men.

There is nothing distinguishable between the two groups.

There is no such thing as men pretending to be trans women.
This was decided when TRAs decided to push for self ID and got what they wanted, these men are trans women by the trans sides own policies and instructions.

And lets not pretend that this wasn't something that wasn't warned about.

As for women in sport here are 23 that you could start thinking about
https://www.outsports.com/2022/3/1/22948400/transgender-trans-athlete-championship-national-world-title/

There are now more that are taking women's spots like the five footballers in Australia and the various volleyball teams in the US.

These 23 trans women have won national or international competitions or championships - Outsports

Transgender athletes are competing around the world, and some but not all of them are winning. Here are some winners.

In all my many years, I've never seen anyone waving their genitals around in changing rooms.

So, because it hasn’t happened to you, it doesn’t happen?

Hasn’t happened to me (yet) either but doesn’t mean I’m cool with men invading women’s spaces.

How about some empathy for those it has happened to?

Im sure between us all we can find some examples?
Lia Thomas for starters, Google Riley Gaines if you don’t know.

Good for you, i'm glad you haven't been subjected to that, but some of us have and we don't want men however they identify in our spaces!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2024 19:44

Has the entire concept of ''safeguarding'' been cancelled or something?

Yes. It's not "kind" or "inclusive" to say no to males when they want their identity validated.

nietzscheanvibe · 06/10/2024 19:44

PollyDactyl · 06/10/2024 16:24

Hi Piggle

Could you explain to me what makes a transwoman a transwoman, I honestly can't wrap my head around it.

Sorry to be so thick Blush

🤣🤣🤣

I'm really starting to hate the word ''inclusion'' and not just on this topic.

I’m not ‘cis’ anything.
I’m a woman.
You can keep your labels thanks very much.

ringoutsolsticebells · 06/10/2024 19:46

No it does not mean 'born as'

What other people do you hate being included too?

LivingInaBuiltSite · 06/10/2024 19:48

Exactly, what used to be a crime known as flashing is now ‘being brave’ or ‘being true to one’s self’.
