Time for a new PM and Chancellor?

1000 replies

Whenwillitgetwarm · 06/10/2024 09:13

I wrote this on another thread but feel it should have its own thread.

Although I voted Labour (the current Tory’s are too insane), I think it may be time to swap out Starmer and Reeves. If this is done early, there’s enough parliament time left to bed a new PM and Chancellor in.

They both lack ideas, seem confused, no vision etc. They had 14 years to think up workable plans. Coming in and throwing their hands up saying there’s no money so they can’t do anything is very poor. They want to continue austerity on the sly. They indulge in stupid culture wars like VAT to rob Peter to pay Paul (and Paul won’t see a penny anyway). They have bad advisors and are arrogant. It looks like they are just excited to have the job titles and don’t know what to do.

Get a top two who will come up with a bold plan. We’re in the gutter so there’s opportunities to deliver quick wins. They don’t always need funding, simple policy changes can make big and quick differences. If they gave each department a target to deliver one quick legislative win by Christmas, we’d start 2025 differently.

Unfortunately we’re stuck with two people who can’t believe their luck, and who are afraid of the Daily Mail, Murdoch, some loud Redwall types and bots on X who wish our country economic harm. They are weak.

If Labour were a football team, there would be fans screaming for Starmer to be sacked now.

This is not about getting rid of Labour. I believe there is talent in the wider party, much more than in the Conservatives who hollowed out their party under Johnson. Nevertheless I just don’t think Starmer and Reeves should have their roles.

It’s interesting that only one poster has had their posts deleted.

I do think that the same certain posters on here tend to 'pile on' to one poster that they disagree with. I have had it before myself on other threads and called it out comparing it to like being back in the playground at school.

You twist what people say, goad them and mock them. It really isn't a good look.

ilovesooty · 13/10/2024 08:43

llizzie · 13/10/2024 04:03

I am suggesting nothing of the kind, and I think you know it.

It was Starmer who said that, on the news. They were his words. As you are obviously members if the labour party, and are supporting him, I assumed that you would know what he meant.

I asked posters what they think he meant by it. Can I not post anything without you bullying me?

Why is it bullying to ask you that? You keep claiming you're being bullied, yet you're the only one who's had their posts deleted.

@llizzie threads often go as @2dogsandabudgie puts

Take it easy, have a good Sunday

When, as this person accepts, you post several times in an hour you can hardly be surprised if people reply to you; and when you repeatedly post manifest untruths - for example, the "illegal immigrants" claim about asylum seekers - you cannot complaint when people point out what you are dong.

How can you claim that you are suggesting nothing of the kind when your words were "Is it possible that he compounded the felony of taking from the poor to give to the rich by saying the pensioners won't be getting free NHS?" What else is that other than a suggestion that pensioners would be denied care because they would not be able to afford it?

You can disagree with someone and if you think what they have said isn't correct you can do that without the mocking and goading.

The posters doing that on here don't like that kind of thing on their own "Starmer" thread, so why do they think it's ok for them to do it elsewhere on this site.

pointythings · 13/10/2024 09:41

If calling out falsehoods, misinformation, Islamophobia and wilful misunderstanding of facts is bullying then most of Mumsnet should be deleted.

@Ilizzie claimed Starmer was saying that pensioners would no longer be receiving NHS care. I asked for evidence that this was policy. Someone who perceives that as bullying really is too sensitive to be on a discussion forum.

Well, quite.

If pointing out that anti-immigration rhetoric and nasty jibes about food bank users is not consistent with the teaching of Christ is goading and bullying, then yes I am guilty. If calling a poster out for disgusting Islamophobia is goading and bullying, then again I am guilty. Report me to MNHQ forthwith!

I am surprised at the posters defending this sort of rhetoric. You would do well to remember that not everyone is who they say they are on the Internet.

pointythings · 13/10/2024 10:01

"Infamy, infamy, they're all got it in for me!"

ilovesooty · 13/10/2024 10:02

Anyone is at liberty to report posts and if MNHQ deem them to be in breach of the talk guidelines they'll be deleted. If, @llizzie, you think you've been the subject of a personal attack, you can report the posts and MNHQ will delete them if your report is upheld.

Questioning someone's faith and asking them what Jesus would think/say is goading and quoting silly rhymes is mocking.

Report it then if you think it's unacceptable.

Pointing out that someone is acting in a way that is in direct opposition to the faith they profess is completely legitimate.

It isn't a silly rhyme, it's a quote from a piece of British culture. If someone takes a victim mentality in the face of legitimate comment, there are consequences.

No-one would have any idea what @llizzie religion is if they hadn't brought it up themselves as part of the discussion - to do that in itself alone is a bit 'unusual' and would open up any poster to questions of hypocrisy

Probably better not to mention personal information irrelevant to the topic
