Time for a new PM and Chancellor?

1000 replies

Whenwillitgetwarm · 06/10/2024 09:13

I wrote this on another thread but feel it should have its own thread.

Although I voted Labour (the current Tory’s are too insane), I think it may be time to swap out Starmer and Reeves. If this is done early, there’s enough parliament time left to bed a new PM and Chancellor in.

They both lack ideas, seem confused, no vision etc. They had 14 years to think up workable plans. Coming in and throwing their hands up saying there’s no money so they can’t do anything is very poor. They want to continue austerity on the sly. They indulge in stupid culture wars like VAT to rob Peter to pay Paul (and Paul won’t see a penny anyway). They have bad advisors and are arrogant. It looks like they are just excited to have the job titles and don’t know what to do.

Get a top two who will come up with a bold plan. We’re in the gutter so there’s opportunities to deliver quick wins. They don’t always need funding, simple policy changes can make big and quick differences. If they gave each department a target to deliver one quick legislative win by Christmas, we’d start 2025 differently.

Unfortunately we’re stuck with two people who can’t believe their luck, and who are afraid of the Daily Mail, Murdoch, some loud Redwall types and bots on X who wish our country economic harm. They are weak.

If Labour were a football team, there would be fans screaming for Starmer to be sacked now.

This is not about getting rid of Labour. I believe there is talent in the wider party, much more than in the Conservatives who hollowed out their party under Johnson. Nevertheless I just don’t think Starmer and Reeves should have their roles.

Of course it is the government's fault. If you cannot see that, then I feel sorry for you.

Even taking out the element of the WFP, the government has made pensioners feel as though they have no worth, that they are better off dying and reducing the population.

A government that can make people feel they are better off dead should not be allowed to continue in government, because the first responsibility of a government is the safety and welfare of it's citizens. They have a duty of Care, which they are denying the pensioners.

I'm a pensioner. I don't feel I'd be better off dead. Utter hyperbole. Why do you keep saying "I feel sorry for you" when people disagree with you?

Change what you consider is relevant to the thread.

Sorry, not following.

Please link me to the thread where you said the same about the previous government, who made disabled people feel exactly like that and who utterly abrogated their duty of care to that group of people.

I don’t claim anything. Why would you think I do?

Nor do most pensioners. They paid their National Insurance all their working life, get the new pension of £221 a week, £3 too much to receive other benefits, you your lot think they are not entitled to more.

Why do resent pensioners? Is it something the labour party trains you to do - resist helping the vulnerable.

I don’t resent pensioners.
Honestly, your logical thinking needs work. It’s getting silly now.

Tell me again in the spring. You must be one of the wealthy ones the labour party resent.

I disagree with people who bully others and it is so natural to them they don't even know it.

Clavinova · 12/10/2024 19:44

James O'Brien's calculation that the donation for the flat decor is £12,500 less than the total of hospitality and gifts declared by Keir Starmer was tweeted 7 days before the revelation that Starmer had accepted an extra £16,000 worth of clothes. More Taylor Swift tickets and several other items have also been added to Starmer's tally;
Boris Johnson refunded the cost of the flat decor back to the donor/s - James O'Brien neglected to mention that.

I meant to post £12,500 more than but my point is still the same - Starmer's tally overtook the cost of the flat decor and Johnson refunded the donor/s in any case.

Why do yo7 think ‘the Labour Party’ resents pensioners, whether rich or poor? Honestly, you really need to stop and think for a minute.

Are you disabled? I didn't like Sunak, but I don't remember being badly treated as a disabled person. To what are you referring particularly?

Because that is what Ms Reeves said.

Younger people can also move about.
So can many pensioners. They are not all unable to move.

They can wear extra clothes, without being weighted down.
So can many pensioners.

They are less likely to fall, less likely to become too confused to be aware of their surroundings.
If they are that vulnerable, they should ask contact Social Services for an assessment of their needs.

Younger people are also less likely to be tired, or confused.
Unless of course they are dealing with serious mental ill health, or are working multiple low paid zero hours jobs to make ends meet.

You're judging a government on one policy, which pretty much everyone on this thread agrees needs work. You're totally ignoring all the other things they have done so far. I wonder why?

Your post doesn’t tally with concerns from Age UK

I’m surprised that people can’t see why it will be hardship for those pensioners

Why should I report it? Isn't it fun? People spend a fortune on University fees to discover what makes people tick, and I am getting it for nothing

I thin’ you have zero idea what makes me (or anyone else) tick.
Now, about Rachel Reeves saying she resents pensioners…
