To laugh at the request to be godparents

My friend's daughter, who we've been very close to throughout her life, has asked me and DH to be her baby's godparents.

We're both atheists and of course, therefore, didn't have our own DC christened.

She knows all of this, but still asked.

AIBU to think this is a ridiculous request?

I'm always fascinated by how an egg (which has obvious symbolism of fertility and spring) became a Christian one.

It isn't!

It isn't!

It retains its origins, but Christians certainly claim it as a symbol of rebirth and such as well. (See this thread for evidence 😀) I've heard it explained as symbolising the boulder in front of the tomb.

Personally it makes far more sense to me as the pre-Christian symbol of fertility and spring than the co-opted version, but you can't say it isn't.

I’m an atheist and I’d be honoured to be asked. I don’t think it’s ridiculous in the slightest.

I’ve read the whole thread trying to see whether the OP managed to bring herself to cross the threshold of the Church for the wedding. If she did, did she laugh throughout the ceremony? She certainly sounds as though she is rude enough to have done so.
