I have just watched this documentary and it broke my heart.
Hamas are revolting monsters, I can't call them animals because animals wouldn't even do that.

I do wonder how the younger, very outspoken generation would:

  1. Feel if that was a festival they went to and watched their friends get slaughtered
  2. Have said if there were social media at the time of WW2

Would we have been viewed in the same way Israel has been? The causalities of war were far greater.

I do not support the way in which Benjamin Netanyahu is going about this war at all but I 100% agree with Israel's right to defend itself.

They seem to be the only war I can think of where a country being attacked from all sides, from countries who do want mass extermination of Jewish people (do the younger generation still get taught about the holocaust anymore) who are repeatedly being told to stand down by the west.

To remind the younger generation of previous war casualties (for anyone with the argument that this war is completely out of proportion):

WW1

  • UK - 885,000 deaths
  • Germany - over 2 million deaths

WW2 - is this proportionate?

  • 1.5 - 3 million deaths in Germany
  • 210,000 dead - Nuclear bombs into Japan
  • 70,000 innocent dead - England

Iraq War

  • 179 English soldiers
  • 4,492 US soldiers
  • 186 - 210,000 Iraqi civilians

No civilian should ever be harmed in war, it is evil however it is inevitable.
How many Jewish people should be killed for Israel to be supported in defending themselves.
So the "the death toll is completely out of proportion" argument doesn't stand.

Yes, we can go back to the time before the bible and argue who has the right to the land. But this current war was started by Hamas and Hezbollah the following day.

However, please don't try to say they want mass extermination of Jewish people just because of the land.
People spitting on a naked woman's dead body when brought back into Gaza, footage filmed by Hamas.

Lets call this what it is pure racism, just like the Nazi's, who killed 6 million Jewish people.

The ICJ is trying to issue an arrest warrant for Satanyahu but UK is trying to delay it.

Grow up.

They tried to rescue her months ago but couldn't because of the invasion

She'd been in captivity for over a decade.

Also let's not forget why Israel is in Gaza. Calling it "the invasion" makes it sound like they're Russia or something, rather than a response to an attack by Hamas.

Exactly, she'd been in captivity for a decade and had to wait even longer because of the invasion and her situation was made worse due to the humanitarian crisis.

When has Israel not been in Gaza? This is just the next part of the Nakba.

I take it you know that under Ariel Sharon, Israel dismantled its settlements in Gaza in 2005 and evicted 9000 of its own citizens, using the army against the settlers.

This was a historic mistake and Hamas took
full advantage.

Again, gently, no @CoolMummy123

You're wrong. The IJC haven't ruled it a genocide

If they do, I'm happy to call it thus, but until then, you're misinterpreting your own links

Who is the biggest donor to the ICJ? The USA.

And who is up Israel’s bum? The USA.

Mr Sinjaree said Ms Sido was in good physical condition, but had been traumatised by her time in captivity and by the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpw5v077nyjo.amp

So this woman's suffering was prolonged and exacerbated by the Israeli invasion.

Edited

There are many legitimate reasons to criticise the actions of Netanyahu’s government but blaming Israel for this poor woman’s decade long suffering is a stretch.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 03/10/2024 23:05

No word of critisism for her captors then? She had to wait as long as she had because she was being held by some Hamas scumbag. The IDF on the other hand were involved in her rescue.

When has Israel not been in Gaza?

Since 2005. I used to think their blockade of the border was horrific, but then I saw what happened when that border got breached.

Obviously I wasn't clear - I'm not blaming Israel for holding her hostage, I'm blaming Israel for prolonging her suffering.

The invasion caused her more suffering on top of what she has already endured. You're perfectly aware that this is being used as propaganda.

Palestine has been under occupation for decades and has never been free. None of this happened in a vacuum.

herecomesautumn · 03/10/2024 23:12

I can't believe it (or maybe I can)

That poor woman was rescued and her pain and suffering was all Israel's fault.

You couldn't make this shit up

LoseMeLikeAnArrow · 03/10/2024 23:13

I will watch the documentary, because I believe in trying to understand every position, every point of view.

There is also a documentary made by Al Jazeera Investigates, taken from over 20,000 social media posts and other sources including from IDF, Hamas, the Israeli government and many of the people affected by the ongoing genocide. There is academic analysis of the Israeli occupation and their actions well before October 7th and since.

This year-long assault on a country that has no army, navy or air force has seen the most women, children, health workers, aid workers, volunteers and journalists killed than in all other conflicts / wars / genocides this century.

Iran struck, with precision, military targets, killing no civilians, proving it is possible to avoid murdering civilians. I'm not condoning it, just highlighting it.

Isreal is a sophisticated, technologically advanced military and yet there are 40,000 civilians dead (another estimate is closer to 180,000). The bombing is indiscriminate with no care for the life of the ordinary Palestinian.

Hind Rajab, a six-year old girl, stuck in a car with her dead relatives phoned for help. The rescue workers were bombed as they were within a few hundred yards of her. Hind was shot at point-blank range. Her murder is well-documented.

The IDF is no longer seen as the moral army. Israel is no longer seen as a democracy.

An estimated 66% of the British public condemn Israel's actions. This is a recent finding.

For all the pro-Israeli posters on here: I hear you. I try to understand. I absolutely wish peace for your nation and I want to see the elimination of anti-Semitism. I really fear that Israel is creating a global backlash and this will inevitably affect Jewish people. I am so sorry for each and every one of you who suffers any form of anti-Semitism. I am very aware that lots of Jewish people and Israelis do not support what Isreal is doing.

I also believe in the Palestinians' right to their homeland without being forced out of their homes or murdered.

Everybody on this earth deserves a good life, a peaceful life and a chance to succeed.

Did you just assume pro-Israeli posters must be Israeli and/or Jewish? Because I’m neither.

Absolutely didn't mean to make that assumption. Just concerned for those who are either and the ramifications.

Neuroticmillenial · 03/10/2024 23:27

@LoseMeLikeAnArrow the rockets were intercepted by the iron dome and Israelis hid in bunkers.

Iran wasn’t deliberately careful.

Plenty of rockets hit the military bases / factories. Lots of equipment destroyed.

I wish that Palestinians had the same safe infrastructure.

YourLastNerve · 03/10/2024 23:33

Sorry op but there's two sides to the conflict here. I don't believe the hamas approach is acceptable or justified but neither were the settlements in the west bank or the golan heights.

Play with fire, get burned. On both sides. The violence from both sides is unacceptable and needs stopped

This tweet links to a video recently released by Al Jazeera where they make fun of the Hamas atrocities on October 7. It shows that they really represent hate, do not release balanced or truthful media and people should be far less willing to inhale their poison. Although I suspect many people actually want to do so

Yes, because antisemitism started in 1948 👍

What rubbish, you should educate yourself in the history going back to 1948. At no point has Israel denied the existence of Palestine. There were many attempts to create a 2 state solution but all offers were rejected by the Palestinians even when the split of the land was not in Israel’s favour.

Rejected because they had no choice about their country being divided up at the whim of Lord Balfour and the rest of his cronies after WWII
A land 'promised' in a tract in an old novel causes thousands to be displaced.
Imagine the council turning up and told you that they are annexing part of your garden because the people down the road were promised a garden.
So the people down the road suddenly have half your garden. Then they feel they are owed the sunny bit where your hotlips and delphiniums grow so well...so they just take it, throwing out anyone near it. Then your veg patch is teken over
Before long, they have taken over the whole garden and are eyeing up your house...
