I have just watched this documentary and it broke my heart.
Hamas are revolting monsters, I can't call them animals because animals wouldn't even do that.

I do wonder how the younger, very outspoken generation would:

  1. Feel if that was a festival they went to and watched their friends get slaughtered
  2. Have said if there were social media at the time of WW2

Would we have been viewed in the same way Israel has been? The causalities of war were far greater.

I do not support the way in which Benjamin Netanyahu is going about this war at all but I 100% agree with Israel's right to defend itself.

They seem to be the only war I can think of where a country being attacked from all sides, from countries who do want mass extermination of Jewish people (do the younger generation still get taught about the holocaust anymore) who are repeatedly being told to stand down by the west.

To remind the younger generation of previous war casualties (for anyone with the argument that this war is completely out of proportion):

WW1

  • UK - 885,000 deaths
  • Germany - over 2 million deaths

WW2 - is this proportionate?

  • 1.5 - 3 million deaths in Germany
  • 210,000 dead - Nuclear bombs into Japan
  • 70,000 innocent dead - England

Iraq War

  • 179 English soldiers
  • 4,492 US soldiers
  • 186 - 210,000 Iraqi civilians

No civilian should ever be harmed in war, it is evil however it is inevitable.
How many Jewish people should be killed for Israel to be supported in defending themselves.
So the "the death toll is completely out of proportion" argument doesn't stand.

Yes, we can go back to the time before the bible and argue who has the right to the land. But this current war was started by Hamas and Hezbollah the following day.

However, please don't try to say they want mass extermination of Jewish people just because of the land.
People spitting on a naked woman's dead body when brought back into Gaza, footage filmed by Hamas.

Lets call this what it is pure racism, just like the Nazi's, who killed 6 million Jewish people.

It’s okay to oppose the way Israel has acted but comparisons with Nazi Germany cross the line into antisemitism.

Saying return the hostages and stop the war makes it sound so simple. But sadly there is very little chance any hostages are still alive after Israel spending 12 months of razing Gaza to the ground and killing anyone who moves.

Even lots of people within Israel disagree with their response.

Israel, unlike surrounding countries, is a democracy and allows for a polarity of views.

Around 20 of the hostages are believed to be holed up with Sinwar who’s using them as human shields. If Israel bombs him then they kill the hostages. That’s his calculation. Let’s hope the Bibas family are still alive among them.

It’s explained in this Sinwar profile that appeared today: archive.ph/oH4ls

In We Will Dance Again, it was particularly sad to see footage of the kidnapping of Hersh Goldberg-Polin. Knowing that after he’d spent 10 months in captivity with his hand blown off, Hamas chose to murder him in cold blood.

AmarenaCherry · 04/10/2024 20:51

Well they’re not very good at it if it’s taken dozens of years to only get this far. Didn’t take Hitler very long to systemically exterminate six million Jewish people.

Congratulations, you’re a textbook antisemite! That falls foul of the IHRA definition which even the Labour Party has adopted:

I'm glad you put two abd two together.
I'll leave you with this fact

"20 percent of the Palestinian children killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since 2000 have been killed after October 7, 2023 at a rate of one child every two days."

Sleep well tonight.

MrsSunshine2b · 04/10/2024 21:00

You are going to have a hard time murdering tens of thousands of innocent babies and children and claiming it as self-defence.

You cannot paint Israel as a perfect victim. Hamas are terrorists, but Israel has broken international law over decades by continuing to build illegal settlements and treating Palestinians as second class citizens in their own land.

If you want to turn a young man into a terrorist, you can't do much better than destroying his future, taking everything that belongs to him and slaughtering his family.

I don't care about who is Jewish, Muslim, Christian or Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and I certainly don't care about the colour of anyone's skin, but I do know violence begets violence and that's what Israel is seeing now.

It's desperately sad that the people suffering most are not the ones responsible.

Yes, lots of hostages have been killed by IDF strikes. What they have done to Gaza is shocking, there are no words to describe it. As much as I want to see Netanyahu and his cronies severely punished for their war crimes, it won't bring back the land they've destroyed and innocent lives (majority women and children) taken.

After the utterly disgusting comments you posted, it's almost laughable that you are trying to take the moral high ground...

As for your sleep well...I'm cringing for you....nice try though.

We all know exactly what you're doing.

Is it disgusting to point out that a government of a supposedly civilised country has been trying to exterminate an ethnic group? I just said it's ironic in the historic context. If people consider this trolling, so be it.

The Palestinians are a protected group who are currently having entire bloodlines wiped out by Israel!

In the Court's view, the Palestinians appear to constitute a distinct “national, ethnical, racial or religious group”, and hence a protected group within the meaning of Article II of the Genocide Convention

Ironic to complain something was done to you as you are now doing the same to someone else.
OP mentions holocaust in op, but no on one is denying (at least I have not seen holocaust denial in any discussions) happened or the horrors of it, but why gloss over the horrors of what has been happening to Palestinian people for years?
Why use Hamas as a justification to what happens to ordinary people every day?

Repulsive

I'm amazed you haven't been banned

AmarenaCherry · 04/10/2024 21:27

Would it surprise you Tulips to learn that most Israelis want a 2 state solution, a sovereign state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel but Palestinian leaders reject this?

Out of curiosity, which part of the post do you find repulsive? The bit I don't deny the horrors of the holocaust?
Or the bit I think no one has a right to commit genocide against another group of people?
My first comment on this post was quite incendiary unnecessarily I admit. But if the post you quoted gets me banned then I'd be pretty surprised.

I went to a conference some years ago involving both Palestinian and Israeli students and academics talking about the conflict. At the time there were no talks of a two state solution, would love to read more about it.
I suppose another question is, is the Israeli government keen on that, as you mentioned Israelis, is it the population or people in power?

Are you suggesting the people of Israel are personally responsible for the actions of the government this conflict? Or am I the one with comprehension problems? Have you missed all the protests?
