I don’t get the obsession with Disney among grown adults. AIBU to think that being so into children’s movies and merchandise is immature?

@MartinCrieffsLemon they don't like "something" they like "something designed for kids".

Disney wasn’t designed for kids though and a lot of video games most certainly aren’t.

walt Disney was really clear he designed the parks and films for both adults and kids.

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:40

@MartinCrieffsLemon very offensive. Terminology. Special needs is something a person HAS not something they ARE.

Actually depends on the person. Some prefer people first, some prefer condition first....

Stop trying to claim some moral high ground when being rude af

@Screamingabdabz oh please. Don't need stats for the bleeding obvious Confused

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:40

@Ttcnumerothree or incels.

So those are the only 3 options

you’re either a paedophile, an incel or you have special needs…

that’s quite a vile thing to say isn’t it really because you obviously know that’s not true

MartinCrieffsLemon · 01/10/2024 20:45

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:41

@MartinCrieffsLemon those are for the parents

Oh yes, such a booming market for parents buying all the Disney merch that's aimed at adults

SabreIsMyFave · 01/10/2024 20:46

Screamingabdabz · 01/10/2024 20:41

Wow! Got any stats to back up that little gem of an opinion?

Don't engage @Screamingabdabz That poster's comments are beyond offensive and ludicrous.

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:46

@Ttcnumerothree option 4 is they have trauma of some sort likely from childhood.

It's normal for adults to enjoy things

Why am I even engaging such an obvious troll?

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:47

MN really is a parallel universe. Most folk would do a headtilt at an adult who went to Disney except under sufferance with kids.

Except that that parks were designed for adults and children alike. That was Walt’s vision.

given the fact that many ‘normal’ adults do go and are annual pass holders clearly proves that it is in fact on the spectrum of normality.

dh isn’t not a Disney adult by any stretch but he absolutely loved it, got into the spirit and got a t shirt and ears for a few pics and ending up getting a bit of merchandise for fun. He’s a pensions advisor. Very normal. I assure you

So now there are 4 options, got it.

what about enjoy a bit of nostalgia here and there and rides? Is that ok? or is that code for sex offender in some capacity?

MartinCrieffsLemon · 01/10/2024 20:49

Disney even says its for all
Else why would it mention remembering?

To think that adults who love Disney are immature?
TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:50

If I was forced to go by my kids I'd enter into the spirit and have a laugh.

I wouldn't go voluntarily. Or be obsessed with it. That's not normal for a healthy adult.

Actually
Most people would not
But OK

fitzwilliamdarcy · 01/10/2024 20:50

I’m pretty sure your average pedophile isn’t going to spend £££££ going to Disney just to see small children, who exist absolutely everywhere.

The state of MN today.

Yep this. ^ I stopped a while back She lost me at 'video gamers are incels.' Around 60% of the gamers I know are female. 😆

How would your children force you an adult to go? You’d be paying, you’d have the power to say no.

but then you’d enter into the spirit and have a laugh? So what are you then? A paedophile, incel, childhood trauma or do you have special needs?

going voluntarily obviously is very normal. Obsessions generally speaking aren’t healthy

EmpressoftheMundane · 01/10/2024 20:53

Disney is multilayered. Some adults like finding the “hidden mickeys” and all the in-jokes, allusions and connections. Sone adults are fascinated by the artistry and world building. Some are fascinating by the technical and logistical feet of running the parks. Some just want to enjoy “the magic.”

Two of the cleverest adults that I know love Disney. One made her millions in tech and retired at 30. The other is on the senior leadership team for UC Berkeley. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you cannot fathom why an adult would enjoy Disney, maybe you lack imagination!

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:46

OK, and?

I can’t get my head around the idea of taking the mick out of what an adult who’d experienced childhood trauma might find comfort in.

Probably because I am one.

But what do I know, clearly it’s better to be a well-adjusted person whose hobby is mocking people who’ve had horrific things happen to them when they were little.

BlueFairyBugsBooks · 01/10/2024 20:59

Going to Disneyland with (small) children seems wild to me. How do you go on the big rides? What do you do with them?

At least MN is deleting them

I'd rather be an immature disney fan than a mature judgemental cunt
