I don’t get the obsession with Disney among grown adults. AIBU to think that being so into children’s movies and merchandise is immature?

Yeah this. Someone mentioned this further back. Grown men (and some grown women) cry like babies if their favourite bunch of men kicking a ball around a field for 90 minutes don't win their 'game.' Indeed some are obsessed to the point of devoting their whole lives to it, whilst buying loads of memorabilia of their 'team,' and often spending 1000s of £££ a year on it. And sometimes travelling around the world, and as you say, getting 'moody' and 'sad,' and even angry and aggressive, if things don't go their way/their team loses.

Why is this not laughed at, and ridiculed, and mocked? Why is it only Disney, Harry Potter, and Sci-fi and cult TV & film fans (and gamers) that get bashed and berated - and have shade thrown over them?! Pisses me off! You never get the Disney/Sci fi/cult TV & film fans, and gamers bashing people who are obsessed with sport.

People need to live and let live and stop bashing and berating people who like different things to them. It's pathetic and nasty and makes them look like a judgy arrogant twat. No-one gives a shit what you think, and no-one is going to stop liking what they like because YOU think it's childish, or immature. 🙄 Just grow up FFS!

I don't laugh at sports fans or Disney fans.
With all the crap, and doom and gloom in the world... if someone is moved to tears because their team lost, or moved to tears of happiness because they are feeling the magic at Disneyland...

I have been into the Alien flims since I was a young teen, and I was bullied in school for it. I had to hide my true self to appear normal. Now, I don't give a shit. I wear Weyland-Yutani patches on my coat, I have badges, bags, T-shirts... my house is filled with various books, replica props and action figures. I have gone to conventions to meet the cast (and I cry doing it too!) I am a woman in my 40s. I would love to one day cosplay as a Colonial Marine from Aliens (I sadly don't have the svelt figure to be a xenomorph). Sorry, but I don't want to exist in floral blouses and watch Love Island.

People who have passions for something are not immature. I think they are amazing, and their passion is infectious, even if it is something I have no idea about. I don't understand people who don't get excited about things.

Bet you’re fun at parties.

I adore Chip and Mrs Potts from beauty and the beast but im not childish.

Your right you are the moron

Disturbia81 · 02/10/2024 07:57

God life is short, let people enjoy it how the hell they want if it doesn't harm anyone else. It brings people some fun and light in this often hard relentless life.

Disturbia81 · 02/10/2024 07:59

@XenoBitch I think I love you! Alien is in my top 3 🖤

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 02/10/2024 08:05

No, it's not my bag but I don't think there's anything particularly immature about it. People like what they like.

But l love jellycats and Winnie the Pooh, so you'd probably find me immature as well!Grin

Zanatdy · 02/10/2024 08:07

It’s perfectly harmless fun, and no, adults that enjoy Disney are not immature.

Getitwright · 02/10/2024 12:15

Disney provided some lovely films for children when I was small, (some perhaps a tad out of synch with today’s World). Not just cartoons, but live action as well. Anyone in the UK got a glimpse of a very different culture in the USA, much more commercial than here in 1960’s UK. Parents knew that the cartoons were safe, not too scary for small ones. Todays Disney is very different, huge media conglomerate, owning the rights to some of the biggest blockbuster films ever, the Star Wars franchise for example. Alongside the films, the franchising was probably even more lucrative, and “very American” thing.

Being able to see the value in lots of different things, even if it’s not to your particular taste or interest is the sign of a mature mind. A closed mind is a very sad place.🙂

@MzPixie - you're, not your.

I don't normally correct posts like this, but if you are calling someone a moron ....

Yes, a couple of weeks ago. I see a few posts deleted on this thread. I wonder if it was the same poster on the other one who said that "adults who like Disney need their hard drives checking".

BananaSplitSandwich · 02/10/2024 17:55

YABU, why does it even bother you? I love Disney ♥️ I’m going for the 6th time next year and received two pairs of new ears in the mail just this week to add to my collection. It’s an awesome place and definitely not just for kids.

Quite possibly. This poster was saying all adults who like Disney have something wrong with them (and/or are peados)

Maria1979 · 03/10/2024 11:09

I did Disneyworld once because I love my children. Let's say I love them very, very much because it was exactly as horrific as I had imagined. And I had to do double takes all over because there were adults with Mickey ears without children (!) really enjoying themselves. And Jesus wept.

LivelyPearlBee · 03/10/2024 12:09

I thought that when I was in my early 20s.

20 years later I have the maturity to understand people like what they like and it really isn't for anyone else to judge.

Maybe when you're a bit more mature you'll get it? 🙃

JustSaltPlease · 03/10/2024 12:37

Liking Disney isn't immature, the films are timeless. I think you are referring to the adults who wear disney stuff?

My colleague has Minnie Mouse trainers and disney decor in the car. I do find this a bit childish but I would never mention it. Like what you like as long as it isn't hurting anyone

We've got a beautiful Alien poster signed by many of the cast in our living room! Managed to get lots of autographs on it from conventions over the years.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 03/10/2024 19:12

I have a friend who wears lots of Mickey Mouse stuff because their dad had a special connection to him and it's a reminder of their now deceased dad

Does that make them immature?

Of course it's immature. I can know that it is and yet not seek to proscribe it. But it is immature.

Immature means to not be fully developed.

How is someone who loves Disney not fully developed?
I should tell my friend, who is a nurse (so in charge of looking after people) that she is immature as she just spent her wedding anniversary at Disneyland (no kids). They both wore ears for their photos... loads of balloons too.

Quite. One opinion/hobby preferences can't make you immature. If you're a fully-developed adult in other aspects of your life, then you're by definition not an immature person, are you?
