I don’t get the obsession with Disney among grown adults. AIBU to think that being so into children’s movies and merchandise is immature?

Why do you care what people are into?

This. ^ It's a bit sad and pathetic isn't it? It's usually the most boring, sad, and miserable fun sponges who judge others for doing 'fun' and supposedly childish stuff! They usually have miserable lives with no joy in it, so they want others to be as grumpy as them, and cannot BEAR to see anyone having a good laugh, and living a fun life.

Is that not worse than thinking they’re immature?

Well that's both rude and offensive

Scottishskifun · 01/10/2024 20:34

It's not for me but that doesn't mean I judge anyone who does like it!

I live skiing holidays for many people the thought of paying to be cold and spend a week going down hills is bonkers.

Each to their own.

FFS, what have I just read?! Confused Adults who enjoy gaming and Disney have special needs?! Are you actually kidding right now?! Hmm

The vast majority of gamers (and it is a multi billion pound industry) are over 21. And many certainly do NOT have 'special needs.' And neither do most adults who enjoy Disney!

What a supremely vile, ignorant, and judgemental comment from you!

Catch yourself on!

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:35

@Ttcnumerothree bit offensive. Is not a person's fault if they have special needs.

The irony

Judging people as "special needs" because they like something is rude and offensive

I still can’t get over the sheer number of people worldwide that lose their shit over men kicking a ball up a field… at least Disney incorporates the higher ideals of creativity, culture, story telling, drama, music and art.

THIS! ^ Many people are utterly obsessed with football, and seeing a bunch of men kicking a ball up a field, and it's like a Religion.

My DH likes science-fiction - and science fact (as do I) and he has an interest in I.T and is good with computers. (He works in I.T.) He is also a good artist. He has zero interest in sport. He has been Royally mocked for a number of decades by male relatives and male work colleagues (and even a few female ones!) for liking what he likes. And he's been called a 'fucking weirdo' and a 'freak' by numerous people - usually other men - for not liking football. People who judge others for not liking what they like, and who mock and deride them for it, are small minded idiots.

I know a number of people who like Disney, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Video gaming, Dr Who, and Star Wars etc, and have them as one of their main hobbies, and they have a lot of fun with it, with cosplay and conventions etc. And these type of people are the best, most amazing, and nicest people I know. MUCH nicer than the horrible, judgemental oiks who berate and judge them for their supposed 'nerdy' hobbies. I don't ever see people who like Disney, Sci-Fi, video gaming, and other supposedly 'nerdy' stuff, berating other people (who are not into the same stuff!)

There are some fucking awful comments on this thread. Hmm

Luckily not everyone thinks like you

ChampaignSupernova · 01/10/2024 20:37

I understand why adults enjoy Disney movies. I don't understand why adults would want a Disney bedroom or fancy dress or to meet the characters at theme parks but then again I didn't want to do any of that as a child. I wouldn't label them immature. Sure some will be but either way who cares? If it makes them happy and it's not harming anyone great!

Not immature but I find grown women wearing mouse ear headbands and sweatshirts with Disney characters a bit silly. Each to their own though, I’m not berating them for liking something I don’t.

Flugelb1nder · 01/10/2024 16:48

Honestly if i could travel back in time to the first person who said this and make sure their Mam and Dad didnt meet, I would

Every time I see that, I wonder if people are parroting that, in an ironic fashion, or they really think they are being witty

Bet you’re fun at parties too

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:38

@MartinCrieffsLemon they don't like "something" they like "something designed for kids".

SherbetSweeties · 01/10/2024 20:39

Rather be immature then boring.

you have to be trolling!

you’re the one who’s proclaimed Disney adults or gamers either have special needs or are paedos… like there is 0 other option?

what did I just read?!

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:40

@MartinCrieffsLemon very offensive. Terminology. Special needs is something a person HAS not something they ARE.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 01/10/2024 20:40

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:38

It's not designed for kids. Otherwise there wouldn't be adult jokes, alcohol for sale in the parks, Disney clothes for adults...

TheGreatIndoors · 01/10/2024 20:40

@Ttcnumerothree or incels.
