I don’t get the obsession with Disney among grown adults. AIBU to think that being so into children’s movies and merchandise is immature?

Oh good, this thread again. It must have been two weeks since the last one.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/10/2024 18:07

I’ve never liked Disney because there’s nearly always something heart wrenching in every film. Much more so than films actually aimed at adults!

Mummadeze · 01/10/2024 18:07

Love it. Am I immature? No, but I would like to be if I didn’t have so much responsibility. It’s escapism for me.

Sauvblanctime · 01/10/2024 16:44

Bet you’re fun at parties.

😂😂😂

BanksysSprayCan · 01/10/2024 18:09

I wish I liked Disney. It would have made cinema trips with the kids far less tedious! 😂

I’ve been. Twice.

was it a research for this thread?

5128gap · 01/10/2024 18:12

I think people who haven't yet realised that human beings are complex creatures, capable of enjoying all sorts, from the sublime to the ridiculous, from high culture to a cartoon mouse are immature. Because clearly they lack the life experience and emotional maturity to understand that one particular interest or enthusiasm does not denote an entire personality.

greengreyblue · 01/10/2024 18:12

I would judge a man with a Disney tie or socks to be fair. 😂

Mumsgirls · 01/10/2024 18:13

I was amazed when I took my children by the number of adults in Disney World without kids. I Enjoyed seeing my children happy, but the sheer greed and naked commercialism I found bad

Janedoe82 · 01/10/2024 18:17

Haven’t read all the posts, I work with vulnerable families. Our mums who have a lot going on/ have experienced trauma LOVE the Disney clothes from Primark. Regularly bounce into the office in Lilo and Stitch etc tracksuits.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 01/10/2024 18:17

We're supposed to be aiming for maturity?!

I thought life was for enjoying! Looks like I've fucked it all up!

5128gap · 01/10/2024 18:20

You might want to pop over to the rude rhymes thread when you've finished judging on this one OP. If you think liking Disney is immature, buckle up...

Ttcnumerothree · 01/10/2024 18:20

Why yuk someone else’s yum OP?

maybe the things you like are painfully dull

I love the parks and I have nostalgic fondness of the films and if I’m having a lazy day I’ll check out a new film with my kids (on Disney +). As an adult I’d got to the parks alone, I wouldn’t unironically queue for pics with characters, but I’d watch the parades and shows. I also buy a hoody, t-shirt and a pair of ears from the parks when I go. Life is so serious so often, lightening up is fun

AnywhereAnyoneAnyTime · 01/10/2024 18:21

get a life. And when universal open here plenty of adults will go there as well.

EUmumforever · 01/10/2024 18:22

What should adults watch? I’m actually curious OP

Boohoolol · 01/10/2024 18:22

I really don’t like Disney films .(Oddly, I do like Disneyland as a holiday)

but I don’t think liking Disney means that someone is immature or childish or that they need to grow up.

bumblefeline · 01/10/2024 18:23

I love Disney and couldn't give a stuff what anyone else thinks, so yes that probably makes me immature.

Mind you I'm so far removed from most people on here I may as well be from a different planet.

XenoBitch · 01/10/2024 18:24

Here we go again.
What is immature is not understanding that everyone can like different things, and then posting a thread about it.

MarmaladeJars · 01/10/2024 18:24

Odd thing to post on a website that attracts the I luv Harry Potter crowd!

ShortyWentLow · 01/10/2024 18:24

Let people enjoy things.

Janedoe82 · 01/10/2024 18:24

If I see an adult in a Disney outfit my honest opinion is I assume they are either neuro divergent or vulnerable/ not the sharpest tool in the box. But couldn’t care less if they are happy! Wear what you like.

Yelloworangetomato · 01/10/2024 18:25

Anyone seen Idiocracy?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/10/2024 18:25

There's nothing wrong with loving Disney films, any more than there is in loving Kaiju movies, anything by Ray Harryhausen, Creature Features, Roadrunner and Bugs Bunny cartoons or Pokémon on the whole.

It's absolutely normal for somebody who is neurodiverse to have special interests. And it's absolutely normal for people of all types to have hobbies, favourite media genres, preferences in Art, culture/popular culture, food, sports and pastimes.

I'm not so sure about wholly neurotypical people who simultaneously deride the special interests of those who are ND whilst making their special interest the basis of their entire identity and personality, though. But then again, people like the tribalism of clothing styles, appearances, music, books, animals/no animals and home decor/cleanliness levels, too. And others define themselves by their faith or nationality or ethnicity. So maybe it's just a modern expression of that human desire to belong somewhere?

Cattery · 01/10/2024 18:25

The old Disney films are fabulous. I don’t watch them now because my sons are grown up. I do remember someone saying to me once “my mother in law is obsessed with Eeyore” and me thinking, jeez.

Auburngal · 01/10/2024 18:25

I love Disney but no way immature. Have broad music tastes of music from 50s to 2010s (2020s so far is rubbish)

Also have boxsets of kids tv shows I watched as a kid

Have nostalgic days isn't immature.
