to find it unnecessary to blame the menopause for needing a dog to get out of the house?

watching the dog house
for example, this was a scenario

and i am sure there are other occasions when women have said Due to the menopause they now have anxiety for example
it seems unnecessary to overshare in this way on this kind of programme.
willing to be explained why i am being unreasonable for disliking this oversharing in an otherwise unrelated area.

"Admit to it" is an interesting phrase to choose. Would you use the same wording to discuss other health issues?

Would you openly "admit" to migraine or arthritis?

Is it the menopause that you wouldn't admit to or the anxiety?

the anxiety

i got my menopause information from mumsnet!

Well I strongly suggest you get it from a reputable medical professional. There are many qualified menopause experts. If you had any condition that impacted your day to day life you would get informed, the menopause is no different.

I have seen a lot of my friends benefit from simply having the information, engaging in self care, awareness, asking for support. Some engaged with holistic options, sea swimming, meditation and others went and worked on securing their HRT that was right for them.

Honestly you sound like you just want a row and dismissive of others experience. My late mother in law had the same attitude, completely unaware of how her symptoms impacted on her family and her own quality of life.

If it isn't for you then toddle on and leave the rest of the curious to make our own, our family members and society's experience easier by being open. The remote has an off button.

the anxiety

And the other question?

Would you admit to arthritis or migraine?

Skipsurvey · 30/09/2024 13:30

my issue is that the subject is shoehorned into tv programmes

I understand your issue, it's annoying when all you want to do is watch dogs meet people.

I was intrigued by your choice of phrase, I wondered if you would use the same phrasing for other medical conditions / ailments.

I apologise for shoehorning the question in, I find language interesting.

I’m not really comfortable with the public oversharing. I’m also a bit confused as to why there is a constant push to make everything private public. It seems any kind of modesty or privacy is under attack with people claiming it’s natural and we should all be more open. Men however get to keep things private

Men are also being encouraged to talk about issues that impact on them.

There is a massive campaign around male cancers as well as lots of work done around mental health stigma in males.

Everyone 'gets' to keep things private. Many people share in an effort to improve understanding and acceptance.

even my neighbour was telling me about her anxiety due to the menopause!
yes, like some others, i am a head down kind of person and the menopause happens to all women, following threads here i am on hrt but i wouldnt think to blame any anxiety on menopause. or admit to it openly

Edited

Why though? If it can help one person surely it's a good thing? My anxiety at the start of perimenopause went through the roof, I thought I was seriously unwell. Had someone said to me it could be due to the menopause maybe I wouldn't have felt like I was the only one going through it.

I think it's the same with domestic abuse we know it goes on but we'd rather turn a blind eye and pretend it doesn't. The more people talk about it the more others can learn from their experiences. If my experiences can help even just one person then it's worth talking about.

yes, will there be erectile dysfunction causing depression in a man requiring to purchase a dog next?
or night time weeing in a man?

How could a dog help any of those things? Whereas a dog can definitely help anxiety in anyone of any age, male or female. This woman's anxiety happened to be caused by the menopause.

OK yes the depression definitely but not the erectile dysfunction.

You sound to me OP like someone who finds the idea of aging abhorrent and are coping with that by trying to pretend the changes women go through as they age arent real. If no one mentions menopause and their difficulties, you can look the other way and pretend it's not a thing. You'll be forever on a par with young women who don't have all these symptoms, and won't be overlooked at work in favour of them, because...menopause...what menopause?

LouH5 · 30/09/2024 16:16

If someone on a tv show said “I’m anxious since I broke my leg,” would you say that was over sharing?
I don’t get how mentioning menopause is an over share. It’s a fact of life. It happens to most women. It’s not some big, dirty secret.

Skipsurvey · 30/09/2024 16:31

But why should I be overlooked at work

Blanketyre · 30/09/2024 16:33

Do you think people go on and on about anxiety generally? That they should just buck up a bit?

I think you need to start again if something is going on at your work because a woman getting a dog due to anxiety (whatever the reason) has nothing to do with your job. Make it make sense and maybe people will be able to advise?

here, being overlooked at work because of menopause Hmm

You didn't write that though? That's someone's assumption- how is anyone reading thread meant to know that's accurate?

Perhaps if you explained more instead of raising an eyebrow and ranting about dogs?

so many posters being excessively intolerant here, considering they are so well versed in menopause you would think they would be kinder to their fellow humans.

The whole thread is a rant about the dog/menopause thing. If your real problem is related to work, why did you not just say? It makes it much easier for all concerned, including yourself.

(If the word 'rant' is the issue just replace it with talk, the word isn't worth discussion, the subject matter is)

She mentioned earlier that she was worried that all the talk about menopause could threaten her promotion, as it might be assumed she had anxiety like other menopausal women.
