An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

MPs should not be accepting gifts, full stop. They should not get expenses either. They are very well paid for what they do. If they can't live on their salary, they should seek better-paid employment elsewhere.

Agreed on gifts but your position on expenses is a nonsense, and would just lead to a parliament of independently wealthy people - forget any working class representation.

I work in a professional job in an office. Should I pay for the laptop, the printer ink, and paper I use? And pay for my secretary’s salary?

Are you seriously saying the MP for Orkney and Shetland shouldn’t be able to claim travel expenses? How is that fair compared to a London MP?

Apparently, he might have broken Electoral Commission rules. Twice.

StarieNight · 28/09/2024 22:41

I didn't vote for Labour but I did feel cautiously optimistic and did believe and still do that we need change, fresh eyes and all that.

I an stunned by starmer hypocrisy, there are recordings everywhere of him attacking Boris for exactly the sane things he's done.

I did not like the choice he presented to us the tax payer either " if I go to my usual stand with my boy, it will cost you the tax payer a lot of money, but accepting this hospitality, I will save you money".

Really?? Yes mp and pm need to carry on family life but unfortunately being pm also means you may have to curtail certain things.
So unfortunately that may mean you can't attend the footy or self fund it??

The entitlement!!

I never got £500, nor did any other pensioner. Facts really are a rare commodity round here.

Please direct me to where I said it was all that matters @ChallahPlaiter. Oh no, you can’t.

However to not have any women in meaningful
power for DECADES and then crow because they finally have a female chancellor while driving Rosie Duffield out absolutely stinks. Tokenism indeed.

Didimum · 28/09/2024 22:43

Nothing will ever – ever – be as hideous and unforgivable as Boris Johnson’s Tories. They were shite on the floor and I will pick Starmer any day with bells on.

Err... We've had Teresa May as PM, The Lettuce briefly as PM. Priti Patel and Suella Braverman as Home Secretary, etc.

Well that's just the problem isn't it. Both parties are arses.

How come you’re so hostile? Do you think people want to engage with you when you’re aggressive and insulting? Maybe either start again, like a civil person, or leave it.

I’m taking about labour women in power. Yes I agree the conservatives don’t suffer from the same misogyny.

No my points are just as valid as yours thanks.

I’m finding it all increasingly confusing.

So much so I can’t make heads nor tails of it.

It’s literally like there are multiple parallel societies living in this country. It’s like a layer cake.

I honestly think if someone could clearly and eloquently demonstrate these layers to others then the whole country would have a serious shock. With hopefully some serious conversations. And I’m saying conversations in all directions.

Yet they’re somewhat lost in the barrage of unpleasantness.
Well, have a good evening.

Stopsnowing · 28/09/2024 22:49

Good letter from RD.The various damaging financial changes have been brought in with no thought about the impact on vulnerable individuals, no phasing in and no thought of putting them into a bigger framework. It is mean, spiteful and shoddy. As for the freebies… just shocking from a lawyer who should know better.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 28/09/2024 22:49

You too. Thanks for your input on whether or not I should post though 🙄

Look at it this way:

At least he's not a Tory.

He's worse

EmpressoftheMundane · 28/09/2024 22:57

Rosie Duffield mentioned nepotism in the cabinet. What is she referring to? I’m not aware of any.

Yes I was wondering that too. And why there's been no press comment on it?
