An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

I agree with @Rosscameasdoody

As much as I am disgusted (but unsurprised) by the shower of shit we have with starmer et al, I do agree that the WFA should be means tested. But the cut off has been levied at a level that is wrong, and it demonstrates the naivety/stupidity/ignorance of the Labour amateurs

Labour themselves said 4,000 pensioners would die if WFA was means tested, but now Labour are doing it apparently they won't be dieing after all. Such hypocrisy.

Blinkingbonkers · 28/09/2024 22:02

Nearly 14k on football tickets?! Seriously WTAF?! I’d love a few freebies to watch my preferred sport…it’s not footy, something waaaay cheaper…can the rest of us have some fun too?….yeah but no but no…obvs 🙄

Well, yes they will be dying. But that will bring down the benefits bill by the back door. There’s a £22bn black hole to fill donchya know !!

You weren't troubled by the release of 10,000 criminals then? Many went on to terrorise their previous partners and a quarter back in prison. Not to mention all those that should never have been let out but were by mistake?

Your list is tosh.

I was expecting far better from this government but that Starmer fellow has proven himself to be a massive hypocrite, he was calling out the Tories for having their snouts in the trough but he's doing far worse. Such a hypocrite; not sure why you see fit to defend such hypocrisy.

Yes I’m really not sure many of the “pros” on the list are:in fact pros?

This thread is insane. You can not judge a government of 2-3 months as incompetent or corrupt.

The press in the uk are right wing. They are stoking up a scandal where there is none. Everything starmer is being accused of has been done, excused and mostly ignored before by the conservative party. But when Labour does similar to a much less degree and it becomes a huge ridiculous scandal.

The covid enquiry results are out. There will be more consquences of the conservative negligence / mismanagement coming to light. There is a dying conservative party. And most importantly there will tax reforms.

People are getting stupidly angry about declared clothes and stuff (did you care how much individual tories spend their money on and what - when they actually did declare it?). The general public is being manipulated by much much richer and more powerful people. They are just useful idiots.

I believe all this whipped up shit is to show kier starmer how they can turn public opinion if he tries to take their money (and hide and / or transfer blame of more tory fuck ups when they come to light). And most of the pps on this thread are falling for it. Think your life has got suddenly much worse now (in the last 2 months since labour got in [moron emoij])? Wait and see what happens if the tories get in again.

Dorisbonson · 28/09/2024 22:05

There is more to come out and a potential court case against Starmer.

British governments seem very good at being dishonest and incompetent.

They're not. If they were Starmer wouldn't be doing so badly already

Before the election, I wondered (and put on Mumsnet) regarding their proposed non dom policy:

why would non doms wait around and pay vast sums of money in tax - why wouldn't they just hot foot it off to Monaco or wherever?

And now, we have the treasury reconsidering the non dom tax plans because the non doms will leave the UK. NO FUCKING SHIT! Who'd a thunk it?

They knew it was and is unlikely to happen. He was meeting with business leaders and going to Rupert Murdoch’s parties prior to the election in order to court them.

What he publicly said was going to happen is not going to be the same thing that was stated in private conversations.

Uh huh. And Thatcher did so much for women and there was definitely no racism from Mr Sunak.

Blatant whataboutery here. The poster you’re trying to patronise is absolutely right. Where are the female Labour Party leaders? No such thing. Do as I say not as I do - that’s the labour motto.

His assertion that the broadest shoulders will bear the biggest burden is already coming unglued. It’s the poorest and most vulnerable who have no voice who will, as they have for the last 14 years, bear the brunt of the cuts - which is what’s coming in October. Labour were vociferous in their condemnation of the sick and disabled who were demonised by the Tory press in preparation for benefit cuts. Exactly the same thing is happening now on their watch because they’re the low hanging fruit who have borne the brunt of every single round of welfare reform.

He broke laws which others faced long trials about and which had far less evidence.

It looks like he:

  1. lied about over £100k or electoral expenditure (the Tory MP who beat Farage was in court for an allegation about much less than this)
  2. His address (that's a court case in itself - see the electoral commission opinion against UKIP on this issue)
  3. Hosted top secret talks at a multi millionaire donate house with government officials
  4. Did all this whilst being a barrister.

The guy broke multiple laws knowingly and doesn't care because he thinks the law doesn't apply to him.

It was 34% of those who voted. Those who couldn’t get off their arses to vote don’t count.

They do count, they show how much support there might be for a new movement to represent them.

Marchintospring · 28/09/2024 22:16

I remember listening to a programme on radio 4 about KS before he came to power and someone political said we needed to look to his start in politics. His views at Uni were very hardline and nothing like the Blair lite idealism I think people were expecting. The guy said we'd all be surprised at what he stood for. I wish I could remember more of it as he was exactly right.

oakleaffy · 28/09/2024 22:16

He's just as bad as the Tories.

Wanker.

Brahumbug · 28/09/2024 22:17

All of the gifts Keir Starmer had accepted have been within the rules, unlike many in the previous administration. There is hypocrisy, but not his, it is the Tory press.
