An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

The mistake people who voted for Labour made was thinking KS was a decent man. He’s not. He’s just another greedy politician but worse - he lied to get in. As least with BJ we knew what he was.

To be fair I think many people could see through Keir too. But there wasn’t anyone worth voting for in this election.

This and it’s coming back to bite

He was making these comments about his working class upbringing and his dad being a tool maker…while living in his million mate’s plush apartment.

MaineHatton · 28/09/2024 21:23

So funny, all the Leftie Mumsnet masses who flocked to their polling stations to vote labour ! 😂

Demonhunter · 28/09/2024 21:21

I think after Tory lite Blair won (on the coat tails of the work John Smith put in) surely people realised Starmer was from the same ilk!

I think if John Smith hadn’t left us so early, the face of UK politics would be very different to what it is now. He was the last of the politicians who was genuinely out to serve the electorate instead of shamelessly feathering his own nest.

His dad was a tool maker. Very apt.

the biggest case of “buyers remorse” is happening before our eyes. I fear for the damage they can inflict in the next 4.5 years.

I’m almost pension age and think the WFA should go. The threshold is set too low but it’s ridiculous to give everyone money because they’re old. Young people have suffered under the last few governments with no handouts for heating. And as for the universal credit cap on 2 children-why should we pay for more when the country isn’t great financially? Child benefit isn’t capped.

Exactly. Precious little point all the pensioners having toasty warm homes* if there aren't any doctors or nurses left because their salaries were cut (in real terms) year on year.

*I mean, my friend's parents spend theirs on a fancy meal out each year and chuckle about the fact they are given it then hop on a free bus back to their large house with grounds and a swimming pool. She's fallen out with them for joking about it but many of their peers find it equally funny

Rosscameasdoody · 28/09/2024 21:27

GoldenLegend · 28/09/2024 21:10

Did you think he had a magic money tree, OP?

He has to deal with the mess left for him, first.

And if the story so far is anything to go by, he won’t be any different in making the poorest and most vulnerable pay for that mess.

Edited

I couldn’t agree with you more. Although, given that he was never in power, who knows? I think I’d also say that about Brown though, he played a very straight bat.

And two of my friends who are in their early seventies spend their winters wrapped in blankets, terrified to put the heating on and trying to exist in one room with one bar of an electric fire. Grow up.

Novaavon · 28/09/2024 21:31

@Rosscameasdoody I agree about John Smith. I vividly remember coming out of my office and seeing the Evening Standard boards with the news that he'd died. So many years later I now realise that it was possibly a pivotal moment in our history.

My friend on Keir Starmer -

'The full depth of Starmer’s mediocrity does not just consist of his hypocrisy and corruption.

It is that the hypocrisy is so obvious and the corruption so cheap.

Starmer was purchased for sums that make him equivalent to the h@@ker who will give a blowjob for £3.50 in loose change.

Some crap clothes and a few weeks in a flat? A football game or two? Tickets to see Taylor Swift?

“Nuclear codes mate? I can let those go for, say, a £20 HMV voucher and a night in a caravan in Penrith on a rainy weekend In October?”

To be corrupt is to be loathed. But to be corrupt and cheap with it is to be doubly despised. '

Wasn't that the excuse for the Tories too? Same excuses, different colour.

2k2j · 28/09/2024 21:32

GoldenLegend · 28/09/2024 21:12

What's that got to do with anything at all?

You shilling for the Tories, are you?

It's funny that you accuse me of shilling for the Tories - my post of 21:09 notes that anyone disagreeing with voting Labour prior to the election was called a tory bot.

You know very well that someone with the position and "principles" of Keir Starmer should not have accepted clothing worth £££££. People in professions (like his own previous profession of law) are not allowed to accept anything at all. Not even £100 - let alone five figures of freebies. What it has got to do with anything is this: he's accepted free shit from rich people - he snout is in the trough just like the tories he claimed to despise and his actions cannot be viewed as independent or in the best interests of the nation now that he has been exposed as doing this kind of thing.

That's the point though. I'd far rather they have double the money and the wealthy ones don't get it.

And there are plenty of people shivering and cold or struggling under pension age too

This. So tired of hearing about these millionaire pensioners gleefully spending their WFA on meals out and then laughing and boasting about it. The reality of the pensioners I know is completely different.

Ridiculous at least read up before making comments like this

Look at Age UK response and the effects of cold on the elderly, including falls and worsened conditions

we hope labour goes and we have a new tory government soon

You need to wait 4.5 years. In the meantime we will all be poorer and be watching Labour leaders lining their own pockets.

Absolutely, a friend of mine was telling me how worried his parents were. My response was you can afford 300 quid, give them the money, you voted this shower in, so now pay.

T4phage · 28/09/2024 21:36

I must admit I never saw this one coming. I didn't vote for them, I spoiled my ballot paper. I'm glad I didn't vote for them now. I thought starmer was going to be dull, but competent, but the reality is he's a disgusting scum sucking bottom feeder like so many are now. I could accept dull, but not this, this is horrible and grubby.

It's a shame that decent people trusted him. It's a shame for Rosie Duffield, who is a decent person from what I understand.

Starmer can get in the bin and stay there 🤢

They're right! P. Diddy would have had a field day with Starmer!
