An excoriating letter from Rosie Duffield who resigned today..

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rosie-duffield-resignation-letter-starmer-labour-b2620603.html#comments-area

Been bad enough for her to resign, I wonder what will happen next. Does she know something we don’t?

Rosie Duffield’s resignation letter in full

Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour MP, attacking Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary policies” and the freebie row engulfing the party.

Well yes but you only have to look at mn for the few years up to the GE to see how anyone with doubts got huge amounts of flack from Labour faithfuls

Indeed this.

Anyone who disagreed with voting Labour or pointed out holes in their policies was accused of a Tory bot. I was astonished that such comments were allowed to stand.

twistyizzy · 28/09/2024 21:09

BIossomtoes · 28/09/2024 21:09

Yep. It went in both directions I can assure you.

Not from me it didn't and during the election it was very much a 1 way street. Every time anyone dared to query a Labour policy they were jumped on as being a Tory bot. Consistently, across every thread.

Trust me, it wasn’t.

Did you think he had a magic money tree, OP?

He has to deal with the mess left for him, first.

BIossomtoes · 28/09/2024 21:08

Nor do hers apparently. She’s just made fools of everyone who voted for her under false pretences.

No, actually I voted for her despite the party.

Whilst wearing £££££ clothes that’s he’s been bribed with?

MrsJoanDanvers · 28/09/2024 21:12

I’m almost pension age and think the WFA should go. The threshold is set too low but it’s ridiculous to give everyone money because they’re old. Young people have suffered under the last few governments with no handouts for heating. And as for the universal credit cap on 2 children-why should we pay for more when the country isn’t great financially? Child benefit isn’t capped.

What's that got to do with anything at all?

You shilling for the Tories, are you?

No, actually I voted for her despite the party.

But did the other 19,530 people who voted for her? I doubt it somehow.

OonaStubbs · 28/09/2024 21:13

I agree with him keeping the 2 child limit.

I don't agree with him pocketing all the freebies. All MPs need to learn to live on their salary. It's a lot more than most of the electorate earns.

He does have a magic money tree for his own use and his mates use, it’s called Lord Alli

Who knows, but I sincerely doubt I was the only one.

He seems to have zero concept of the optics around all the recent news...arrogant or stupid? Who knows...

I think you'll find many are criticising Keir including his own party

Perhaps if you look off mn Labour threads you'd see it

Demonhunter · 28/09/2024 21:14

Well many of us knew under Starmer is would be the same shit in a different colour.

The mistake people who voted for Labour made was thinking KS was a decent man. He’s not. He’s just another greedy politician but worse - he lied to get in. As least with BJ we knew what he was.

Completely agree

Loving the desperation here. 😂

irs not a race to the bottom. The but but but the tories doesn’t fly anymore.

labour have shamed themselves. And they have only been in ten weeks!

they’ve stolen from the pensioners.
given into the unions
spent money we don’t have,
taken free holidays and clothes.

it’s shameful.

Desperation? I don't support any particular party

The magic money tree is Mr Alli.

Sadly, the only beneficiaries are Keir and his mates.

I think after Tory lite Blair won (on the coat tails of the work John Smith put in) surely people realised Starmer was from the same ilk!

bringslight · 28/09/2024 21:21

we hope labour goes and we have a new tory government soon

He and his party remain a better choice than the other lot

Not sure about this. I hated the Tories but the one thing you could say about them was that you knew they were self serving bastards. Labour are wolves in sheeps’ clothing. They said they would end austerity. All they’ve done is label it as something else - fixing the foundations.

Plenty of people thought Johnson was funny or a man of the people, just like one of us, you could have a pint with him. He wasn’t any of those things; he did more than anyone in the UK’s living memory to degrade politics and the “good chaps” theory of government. He was a genuine threat to democracy- did we all know that and vote for the party he led regardless?

There's generally quite a lot of personal loyalty to a sitting MP. If there wasn't I don't think she'd have got in again in what used not to be a Labour seat. So that's not quite as true as it would be in many places.
