Ive got covid. How worrying is the new variant and why are they still not insisting we wear masks.

I know several people who still test. Its irresponsible not to

What do you do with the results? Do you behave differently if a COVID test is positive than if you were coughing, sneezing, had a streaming nose and general aches and pains.
Back in the days when people were dying of COVID and becoming seriously ill my work insisted I test every week and the couple of times I had positive results were when I had no symptoms whatsoever.
The NHS will now allow staff in if they feel well enough with COVID is because they have the figures of the number of people who are seriously ill with COVID and are extremely low because of immunity (vaccine or natural). Staff still wear masks in areas where there are more vulnerable patients and masks will reduce transmission

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 10:03

I'm going to go out to the pharmacy to get some more headache tablets and stock up on more covid testing kits and I will wear my mask I will take a taxi there and back and that's that and I do an evening class and I've booked an evening class for this coming week back to school have said to me and less I test negative I'm not to come into the class because I could give my covid to the teacher

OP posts:
Flute56 · 28/09/2024 10:06

So if I test positive on the day of the class I won't be able to attend because they have told me I must not attend if I'm still positive

Please can someone address my recurring symptome of headache and sore joints. I thought they had gone. Also my trip anroad on 15th october

Sorry? What are you actually posting for? If you want medical opinion on your Covid, make an appointment to see your doctor. You cannot demand that people "address" your symptoms.

The facts are that very few people are testing, very few are wearing masks and although you are free to test as much as you like and wear a mask, you cannot start insisting others do likewise. Covid is never going away, there will be variants of it circulating every year forever. We will continue to vaccinate the most vulnerable, the rest of us will just get on with life.

Cynic17 · 28/09/2024 10:09

Because Covid is not a serious illness.

Most masks do nothing and/or people wear them incorrectly.
Just stop testing and carry on as normal - why are you even bothered about this, OP?
Even Chris Whitty has finally admitted that the Government overestimated the importance/severity of Covid!

OK then. Is it just covid you're overly anxious about or does the worrying and judgement passing extend to other illnesses too?

BMW6 · 28/09/2024 10:13

OP are you this anxious about flu? Because covid is pretty much the same.

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 10:15

Well I was told by my evening class School not to attend unless I have a negative covid results so I've got to keep testing because they said to me do not come in with covid because you could give it to your teacher

I don't ever see anyone wearing masks anymore

I do, in the street!

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 10:16

By the way does anybody know how covid first started where it came from because 30 years ago nobody had heard of covid nobody had covid and all of a sudden it's all over the world where did it originate from

OP posts:
Suzuki70 · 28/09/2024 10:16

These posts really make you realise what a number the govt did on people's mental health.

Muffinmanfromdrurylane · 28/09/2024 10:17

Eh so it's OK for you to infect the poor unassuming taxi driver?

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 10:17

It's like many many years ago they had something called the Spanish flu now that was killed because we don't have Spanish flu anymore

You could have avoided this by not testing in the first place and just going out if you feel well enough, like everyone used to do in 2018.

Jeezo.

Spanish flu was a variant of flu. Because flu is also a virus which changes every year. We still have flu. The "Spanish" variant (which didn't even originate in Spain but that's a whole other thread) may have gone but there are numerous other flu variants circulating which is why we vaccinate people against flu.

For someone who is apparently so fearful of Covid and thinks everyone should be testing and wearing masks, you don't seem to have a very firm grasp on what it's all about.

DillDanding · 28/09/2024 10:22

Are you anxious about health in general, OP?

If you’d done what the vast majority do, and not tested, you’d be none the wiser. And you wouldn’t be irrationally stressing over a holiday that’s almost 3 weeks away.

If you say to many organisations "I have COVID/flu etc" of course they are going to say don't come in as organisations fear would become liable if they say yes come in.
The NHS has no choice but to welcome sick people through it's doors.
Are you still wearing rubber gloves when you leave the house OP and damaging your skin by overuse of sanitisers.

Yep. H1N1 viruses include Spanish Flu and Swine Flu. It didn't go anywhere.

Have you been asleep for the past 5 years? Of course it wasn't around 30 years ago!

But since you don't know (how, I'm not sure) it was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan in China, it is suspected it started in a wet market there, and despite the best attempts of the Chinese authorities, it spread widely and was first identified in the UK in early 2020. The country went into lockdown March 20 in a bid to lessen the spread. Sounds familiar?

KnottedTwine · 28/09/2024 10:35

Indeed. Knows ALL about testing and masks, and wants everyone to test and wear masks, but has no clue at all about how it all started. A likely story.

spuddy4 · 28/09/2024 11:27

You can wear your mask if you want, nothing stopping you at all and plenty of people in the supermarket I work at come in wearing them. Don't inflict them on everyone else though, if you have enough belief that a mask works well enough you do you and let the rest of us be.

Quite. Very scary how many people are still scared 4 years on.

OrdsallChord · 28/09/2024 11:46

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 08:10

If masks are so pointless why do doctors and nurses wear them in the Hospital when they treat patients

I doubt most of us would want our treating doctor or nurse to wear a mask they've had on in the supermarket, on the bus etc!

That said, a well fitted FFP3 offers some protection to the wearer. It's not that masks per se are useless, it's that on a population level people don't wear them properly. If you're worried, maybe get yourself one.
