Ive got covid. How worrying is the new variant and why are they still not insisting we wear masks.

You don't really expect to test positive and then get the usual headaches and aching joints then they subside and you think you're on the road to recovery only to find out that they come back

Please can someone address my recurring symptome of headache and sore joints. I thought they had gone. Also my trip anroad on 15th october

What do you mean?

You have Covid - you might have had it all this time, or you might have had something else first.

What are you looking for anyone to address?

Masks are pointless.

Littlemisscapable · 28/09/2024 07:49

Take paracetamol and rest you will be fine. Masks at best offer some protection to other people around you from your illness they don't protect you from others. Dont overthink it so much..get the next covid vaccine if its offered to you.

That's Covid for you

ilovesooty · 28/09/2024 08:02

If you're well enough to go on holiday go. If you aren't, don't. Presumably you have insurance? If you're concerned about your recovery seek medical advice.

SometimesCalmPerson · 28/09/2024 08:02

Sometimes recovery from a virus isn’t a straight road. Your holiday is still three weeks away so there is still plenty of time for you to begin to feel properly better.

You do sound like you’re being quite dramatic tbh. Masks and Covid restrictions were a fucking nightmare and most people have no desire to go back to any of that just because a new virus that is mild for the majority has made it’s way into existence to join all the other ailments humans can possibly have.

If masks are so pointless why do doctors and nurses wear them in the Hospital when they treat patients

I don't ever see anyone wearing masks anymore

I don't really see anyone where I live but spent a week in London last month and saw quite a lot of people wearing a mask - on the tube, on buses, in shops, in the street

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 07:32

You are missing the point and my point is yes headaches and so joints are conditions and symptoms of covid but what I meant was that after two days these symptoms disappeared and that was after testing positive and I naturally assumed that I was on the road to recovery and Wendy's symptoms came back last night I was quite disappointed because I then thought to myself I can't be on the road to recovery if these symptoms have returned so I thought I'm back to square one

I am not missing the point. You cannot will yourself better because you're going on holiday. It sounds like you've tested yourself on Wednesday and again since which is a waste of time and money. It was long proved that some people test negative after a week whereas others show traces for weeks, so unfortunately you're better when you're better and as with flu it's likely to fluctuate.
The headache could be dehydration and the joints post viral inflammation but none of us know if this is the case.

Peonies12 · 28/09/2024 08:16

YABU. Sorry you’re ill but being ill is a Normal part of life. Doesn’t matter if it’s Covid. I don’t know anyone who tests anymore. No one fusses about flu and loads of people get that. Get off Mumsnet and have a proper rest, lots of fruit and veg, foods that are good for gut health, get outside in the fresh air when you can, or get the windows open.

TheKeatingFive · 28/09/2024 08:20

Wear a mask if you want.

Go on holidays if you feel well enough to do so.

🤷‍♀️

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 08:36

I know several people who still test. Its irresponsible not to

You have covid. Take it easy. Rest. Eat healthy.

Because people don't want to and can't be made to. It would be a waste and time of energy to try. These things need public buy in, which no longer exists.

RareitySparkles · 28/09/2024 08:42

I'm getting over covid. It was bad but not awful. The biggest issue is I didn't test positive until day 5 which is normal now so I possibly spread it before I knew. Masks then seemed pointless. Stay in if you can while you feel bad. I'm not sure when I stopped testing positive as it's too expensive to keep testing. I only tested because I was fluey and a friend has cancer ( not on chemo thank god)

SometimesCalmPerson · 28/09/2024 08:52

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 08:36

Why?

If it were necessary we’d still get them for free. I’m one of those people that is pretty certain they’ve had Covid but never tested positive and testing is not going to affect my behaviour anyway. It’s not irresponsible not to test, it’s just getting on with normal life.

NotSmallButFunSize · 28/09/2024 08:55

Are you usually so dramatic when ill??

I've had plenty of viruses where you feel awful and it seems to be for ages, not a new thing just because it's Covid. Your holiday is over 2 weeks away, seems OTT to be stressing about that now

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 08:36

Nobody I know tests anymore.
It's expensive and largely pointless.

itwasnevermine · 28/09/2024 08:59

If you're concerned, call 111 or book an appointment with your doctor on Monday.

I have had a cold. I thought about testing but decided not to because at the end of the day, it didn't change anything. I still had to go to work, I'm glad I didn't waste money on a test because I've woken up this morning feeling absolutely fine.

LittleBearPad · 28/09/2024 09:00

It’s perfectly normal for Covid symptoms to come, go and come back again. It will likely happen again.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/09/2024 09:02

Melodysmum12 · 27/09/2024 20:44

Because Dr’s are allowed to perform operations even if they’re Covid positive so that tells you all you need to know!!

Masks and lockdown ruined lives just as much as the actual virus!

Is that true because I wasn't allowed to have an operation recently if I'd had covid recently?

BurntBroccoli · 28/09/2024 09:21

Flute56 · 28/09/2024 07:40

You don't really expect to test positive and then get the usual headaches and aching joints then they subside and you think you're on the road to recovery only to find out that they come back

This has always been the case with Covid. You get a respite then it's back in full force.
When I had original 2019/20 Covid, I had a cough lasting 3 months and I'm sure it weakened my immune system. I get so achy now on my left side.

There's no way you can tell if you'll be well for your holiday. Eat nutritious food, get plenty vitamin C and cross your fingers.

Melodysmum12 · 28/09/2024 09:28

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/09/2024 09:02

Funny that as they might ask patients those questions but they don’t check about the drs! I am not a dr but I work in the medical field and have seen it for myself! I mean they have to wear a mask but they can still be positive!

BMW6 · 28/09/2024 09:32

OP it's perfectly normal for symptoms to flare up again. As a pp has said, recovery is rarely a straight line.

Take each day as it comes, rest as much as possible, drink lots of fluids.

I hope you feel better for your holiday.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 28/09/2024 09:33

Flute56 · 27/09/2024 20:55

I think that is so unprofessional to perform operation while your covid positive that is disgusting

OK, so people should just die from not having the life-saving operations they need while they wait for an available Covid-free surgeon?

Nuts.
