To think that 5 children growing up motherless because their Mum wanted cosmetic surgery is absolutely tragic *edited by MNHQ

And actually a damning indictment of the state our society and the pressure placed on women to conform to increasingly ridiculous and unattainable standards of “beauty”??

A woman in her early-30’s has just died after having a Brazilian butt lift procedure in Gloucestershire, leaving 5 children who will now grow up without their mother. She’s not even the first woman to die after this procedure, which is known to be the most dangerous cosmetic surgery procedure commonly available- just the first to die after having it done in the UK.

What the fuck is going on?? Why are women literally putting their lives on the line trying to mimic some cartoonish Kardashian aesthetic? Is it that we place so little value on our own lives or so much value on appearance? Is it that these surgeries and treatments which were once the preserve of the rich and famous, are now available to pretty much anybody and can be performed by people with next to no qualifications?

I feel so angry for that woman, and desperately sad for her children.

I understand that you think the world revolves around you but I wasn't talking about you specifically. I was talking about the pressure in society to conform to certain expectations.

Could you explain why the beauty, diet, fashion and anti aging business are thriving, multi dollar industries? It's a head scratcher since no woman buys into them.

Can only respond with insults? Clearly, I was giving an example!!!

I am one of many, many women who don't buy into this shit. We exist. Feel free to stick with the boring, cliched stereotypes. I guess you're one of them.

Carry on, I cba with you.

Ghouella · 26/09/2024 19:35

All this society Vs individual choice. It's both, isn't it.

Clearly this current trend is the product of society and in particular, social media.

But at the same time, as an individual she made a choice which was foolish and didn't prioritise her children. The overwhelming majority of women have no difficulty whatsoever in resisting the "pressure" to spend thousands on risky and unnecessary cosmetic procedures - and I suspect for the most part that's because they have better sense.

It's a tragedy for that poor woman and most especially her children. And in our own way, I'm sure each of us is a fool. Being foolish shouldn't be a death sentence. Better safeguards / regulation should exist to protect people from this particular unwise decision, in my opinion.

It’s so sad. I’m angry that the supposed qualified person who did this still hasn’t removed the before and after of this dead woman from their Facebook page

Actually just noticed the page has been taken down,it was there a couple of hours ago

MixieMatchie · 26/09/2024 19:39

Even if the procedure had been a success, what an example to set five young girls. This should be seen as a mental illness or extreme folly, to want to do this - someone like this needs help and/or stern words. And I also wonder about the partner in all this - if there are men who encourage their partners to do these things, they should be ashamed.

You weren't giving an example you were talking about yourself as though nothing I said was true because you didn't do it.

Can you answer the question since you're so adamant?

How come these industries which are specifically aimed at women, are so lucrative?

Tittat50 · 26/09/2024 19:44

@poppyzbrite4 I'm with you 100%. Societal pressure and influence often operates on a level we aren't always conscious of.

Some people seem totally idiotic - but they shouldn't be exploited or allowed to carry out these ridiculous procedures.

Some people are significantly more vulnerable or living in a delusion and really don't fully appreciate what they're doing. Look at the state of Katie Price. Or that grotesque cat woman. These industries should not be allowed to get away with it. These people are clearly being exploited! Yes and maybe alot of them are not the full ticket. Even more reason to protect them.

No easy answers though sadly. We can't shut down Tik Tok and all the other influences we have now.

I feel nothing but compassion for beautiful young women who are putting these poisons into their faces to conform to beauty standards.

Every year there's a different body part girls are meant to be working on; bum, breasts, the thigh gap...these industries thrive on women's insecurities. They're bombarded with messages about how they need to change in order to be worthy.

It's very easy to dismiss women who are doing what we're all doing in one way or another.

The genie is now out of the bottle. Any attempts at regulation of the industry will just drive it into the backstreets, and that will be even worse.

I cannot for the life of me understand how Katie Price can keep getting surgeons to operate on her. One of these days her entire body is just going to collapse surely? An originally attractive woman who has turned herself into a caricature?

Maybe what needs to be looked at is, what motivates these women (and men)? And how do they differ from the Mrs Sensibles (like myself) who aren't particularly influenced by trends?

Could the powers that be look at the training organisations that deliver these 2 day programmes that somehow turn a novice with no medical background into an 'expert'?

I've had to undergo surgeries in my life out of medical necessity, and they have always terrified me. And that has been on the NHS, with a consultant surgeon and a whole medical team for backup. I would never, ever do it willingly for any other reason, and I wouldn't ever let my nail tech, lovely and conscientious woman that she is, anywhere near my face, butt or anywhere else with a needle?

Surely they are at huge risk if a procedure goes wrong as this one did? Will they really have sufficient insurance cover for death or serious injury?

Does anyone actually think a filler-filled arse looks good? 😳

Well some women must, seeing they are having it done?

Personally I think it looks awful and so unnatural. Women backsides aren't naturally that shape even if they are on the bigger side. I have a work colleague who reckons her arse is so big, it has its own postcode, but it is a normal shape, nothing like those!

The Kartrashians look misshapen.

@Function men just die from the mental health crisis they have to deal with in silence instead. There's tragedy on both sides of the fence.

You don’t think that mental health problems are affecting women ? Or that “body dysmorphia” a recognised MH illness, isn’t the reason some women are resorting to ridiculous procedures like a BBL?

Hell no mn woman going to admit to that. A spa day and highlights is the recommended treatment . No one’s going to say, they use fillers and have perky false boobs and bulbous lips

mn women waft about in a fug of expensive perfume and bolero. You’ve only got to read style and beauty what to wear at 4 posts in bolero will be mentioned

I know she has to go to Turkey now, no one in the UK will do it anymore.

PattiSmithsPattis · 26/09/2024 20:08

It seems the outcome of these procedures is clearly outweighing the risks for the people willing to have it done.
Even any medical procedures carried out by professionals are not risk free, but you know there is a whole team of professionals IF it goes pear shaped.
For the life of me I can't work out why you would allow a Pete Burns look alike anywhere near you with anything sharp 🤷🏻‍♀️
I remember seeing an episode of this morning a good while ago, a lady had bbl that had gone badly and whatever had been injected (abroad somewhere) wasn't medical grade and had set like concrete. And she was complaining.
I hope after this monumental fuck up government make changes.
Then people going to back street sheds will have nothing to complain about when it goes wrong.

shuggles · 26/09/2024 20:09

@poppyzbrite4 Then you're an anomaly. You don't wear makeup, shave, dye your hair, diet, buy clothes from shops or use anti aging products.

Many of those things have nothing to do with cosmetics, and aren't done due to societal peer pressure.

Many people, both men and women, shave for comfort.

Men and women wear clothes so they're not cold and for comfort.

Weight loss is done both by men and women for health benefits.

To be clear There’s no mandatory training no regulation no regulatory body. ANYONE can practise and set up a business. It’s an unregulated work area

artictern · 26/09/2024 20:15

There is definitely pressure from men to have a p*rn-sized ass and thighs…men from an older generation may not care about this but plenty from younger generations do. I have been made to feel extremely badly for having a small bum by men. I certainly won’t be injecting myself or doing any kind of surgical procedure to change this, or do 1million squats or whatever, just to please them. But there is pressure. People saying there isn’t just haven’t been subjected to it. Which is good, because it’s bloody awful. But then again, they will have a likely faced a different kind of pressure…large breasts for example.

They're done in order to look more attractive and in many cases, look younger. I don't know any men who 'shave for comfort'. I know many women who shave because it's expected. There's a lot of pressure on women to be hairless, even more so with the advent of porn.

The diet industry is predominantly aimed at women as women are under a lot of pressure to be slim.

I find it difficult to believe that women don't see the pressure there is to be attractive as they are judged on their looks.

Shessweetbutapsycho · 26/09/2024 20:17

Fetafiend · 26/09/2024 14:27

Why is the bum enlargement so risky compared to all the other cosmetic surgeries like boob jobs, nose etc?

It’s not possible to know for sure where the blood vessels are located inside the buttocks, therefore easy to inject fat into a blood vessel which can then go to the heart or lungs

Neuroticmillenial · 26/09/2024 20:18

Although I’d never get a BBL, I get 1ml of lip filler a year and I was considering botox. I go to a qualified practitioner but this story has made me reconsider. I’m not saying I won’t have fillers again but it is essentially just a mask - one that undoubtedly makes me feel better but still a mask! (Please don’t be mean)

But surely it can't be ethical for surgeons to operate on these people so many times?
