To think that 5 children growing up motherless because their Mum wanted cosmetic surgery is absolutely tragic *edited by MNHQ

And actually a damning indictment of the state our society and the pressure placed on women to conform to increasingly ridiculous and unattainable standards of “beauty”??

A woman in her early-30’s has just died after having a Brazilian butt lift procedure in Gloucestershire, leaving 5 children who will now grow up without their mother. She’s not even the first woman to die after this procedure, which is known to be the most dangerous cosmetic surgery procedure commonly available- just the first to die after having it done in the UK.

What the fuck is going on?? Why are women literally putting their lives on the line trying to mimic some cartoonish Kardashian aesthetic? Is it that we place so little value on our own lives or so much value on appearance? Is it that these surgeries and treatments which were once the preserve of the rich and famous, are now available to pretty much anybody and can be performed by people with next to no qualifications?

I feel so angry for that woman, and desperately sad for her children.

Terribly sad story. She could have used that money to get a trainer and work on building a bigger booty at the gym.

I just hope those poor kids have love and support around them at this difficult time.

Think plastic surgery and Botox etc all just needs to be banned unless it medically necessary such as a fire victim etc.
It all looks very OTT and ridiculous, and the government clearly can't stop the back street butchers from killing.

I have Botox between my eyebrows (11s) twice a year. it stops me looking really angry when I'm not. It is completely safe and is in no way comparable to a BBL!

Happii · 26/09/2024 17:47

Also interesting that 90% of plastic surgeons in the UK are men…

Plastic surgery actually has the 3rd highest out of medical specialities women as consultants. Or are you on about cosmetic surgeons?

Sexyshrek · 26/09/2024 17:48

I work in the beauty industry, although not in injectables, and I think the problem lies with having a completely unregulated industry. As pp have said, you can do a 2 day course as a complete beginner and then on the 3rd day you are let lose to inject people in the face with fillers and botox unsupervised. Only those with a medical degree should be allowed to work in asthetics, and it needs to be closely monitored and heavy penalties given to those breaking the rules. Injecting 400ml of filler into someone is absolute madness and someone with no medical training should never have been able to get their hands on something like that, let alone build a business doing so!

I feel so sorry for that women and her family. Being immersed in the beauty industry really does blind you to how dangerous these procedures are. Almost every person I've worked with has had botox, fillers, plastic surgery, dental work in Turkey, liposuction, and weight loss/tanning injections. I look like a right scruff stood next to most of them. I don't blame her for getting the procedure, I blame the system that has allowed this to happen.

So what you're saying is that there's no social pressure in society for women to look a certain way? No pressure to shave, to look younger, to lose weight... No pressure at all, we spend thousands on make up, creams and tinctures, dieting, dying our hair etc for no other reason than it makes us feel good.

Women place more pressure on other women than men do let's be real.

It just pisses me off that on a site like MN the presumption is always that if a women does something stupid it's someone else's (usually a man's) fault. For a site that claims to be feminist, there is a disturbing acceptance that women have no agency in their own lives and shouldn't have to take responsibility.

Ain't that the truth ...

I didn't mention men.

PeloMom · 26/09/2024 17:53

@Tittat50 i remember few years ago watching a programme and a very well known plastic surgeon explaining in a lot of detail what and how is done and why it is so dangerous- not only abroad- and comparing statistics with other risky surgeries and this one came in top by quite a lot. I don’t remember the details (I was post partum and sleep deprived but remember few high lights here and there). The way he explained it and the way I understood - you’re more likely to end up dead/ with very bad complications than not.

Really?, so a bum lift is for the female gaze, push up bras for other women etc

Brush up on grammar.

Maybe brush up on reading if you genuinely can’t remember calling that poster a female dog.

I find it quite odd that people can't see how much porn, and the consumption of porn by men, have to do with the popularity of this look. Men may tell you they don't like fat arses or puffy lips or wrinkle free faces. The popularity of porn tells you otherwise.

Moonlitwalk · 26/09/2024 18:03

Allfur · 26/09/2024 17:13

Do you actually believe them?!

Yes- they have no reason to lie and ive seen visceral dislike from them when it comes to extreme surgeries. I am not saying they dont appreciate beautiful women but the women I've seen them drool over or comment on are far more natural types- beautiful but non enhanced.

Are you suggesting that ALL men are attracted to only one type of woman? Isnt that rather like suggesting all women fancy male bodybuilders with huge oiled pecs and if they say they dont then surely, "they're just lying"?

Most people do not prefer an extreme type of look- no matter what that look may be.

BreatheAndFocus · 26/09/2024 18:08

It’s a tragedy that she died. So sorry for her children and family.

What makes me sad too is the horrible Insta faces, bodies and poses. Cartoonish lips, marker pen tattooed eyebrows, perma-tans - and yes, big arses. Such arses would have been the subject of comedy sketches when I was a teen, but now younger women and girls’ views are so skewed that they’re seen as desirable.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with ‘making the best of yourself’ as my Gran used to say, but that should mean a little makeup, moisturisers, etc, to still look like you but a bit ‘polished’ - not these hideous (sorry, but I think they are) fashions that risk health and/or make you look like a cartoon figure and/or a blow-up doll.

There’s too much pressure on girls and I wish schools would work to reduce this, along with parents, media, etc.

TheGander · 26/09/2024 18:11

I agree, I don’t know any man who thinks hmmm inflated lips how attractive. We were watching “ Celebrity SAS” the other day and all the women on there ( barring those in their 50s and possibly the mixed race women ) had inflated lips, and several obvious nose jobs too. It’s actually one reason I’d rather watch the “ civilian” version of those shows, you don’t get the body modifications ( not to the same degree anyway). It’s getting freaky.

ChavvyMcChavverson · 26/09/2024 18:13

The blame for all of this is the obsession with celeb culture. Cosmetic procedures used to be the preserve of the well off, same as Range Rovers and 5 star holidays. Nowadays these things are within the reach of the normal working people, and so begins the demand.

You see Nicky Minaj with her leg and arse and then some freak in a shed offers you it for few quid and off you go. The man offering this was on This Morning saying his obsession with Kim Kardashian will kill him one day, and well, the rest is history.

So if men started watching videos of women jumping off cliffs, does that mean we should all go and jump off a cliff to please them?

Women who do things because a man tells them to are idiots. If you look around you most women do not have these procedures done. The women with sense, at least.

I don’t believe it’s down to men. It’s down to certain vain women wanting to look like a Kim Kardashian clone.

Why do you think women started getting rid off all pubic hair, for fun? It came directly from porn.

Sure - but men don’t seem to be dying from BBLs in the same way. Why’s that?

Men don’t seem to have any interest in BBLs, trout pouts or any of the nonsense which passes for beauty these days

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 26/09/2024 18:16

Yes the industry and social media and the patriarchy are all to blame to various extents, but there are different levels.

It's bad that women are generally made to feel that they have far, far more grooming to do than men just in order to look 'normal' or even 'professional at work'. But people who choose to have extreme, intrusive procedures like this BBL thing are not doing it to be normal. They are deliberately choosing to go beyond what is encouraged by images in most of the media.

Or she could have accepted that her booty was normal for her.

Believe me, I had a massive arse and thick thighs before they were fashionable. That was normal for me and I wish it had been acceptable back then, in the same way I wish all body types were acceptable now.
