To think that 5 children growing up motherless because their Mum wanted cosmetic surgery is absolutely tragic *edited by MNHQ

And actually a damning indictment of the state our society and the pressure placed on women to conform to increasingly ridiculous and unattainable standards of “beauty”??

A woman in her early-30’s has just died after having a Brazilian butt lift procedure in Gloucestershire, leaving 5 children who will now grow up without their mother. She’s not even the first woman to die after this procedure, which is known to be the most dangerous cosmetic surgery procedure commonly available- just the first to die after having it done in the UK.

What the fuck is going on?? Why are women literally putting their lives on the line trying to mimic some cartoonish Kardashian aesthetic? Is it that we place so little value on our own lives or so much value on appearance? Is it that these surgeries and treatments which were once the preserve of the rich and famous, are now available to pretty much anybody and can be performed by people with next to no qualifications?

I feel so angry for that woman, and desperately sad for her children.

Well, not for the wearers ...

True but we aren’t talking about doing harm to others but choosing this risk for yourself plus I’m tapping away on a iPad so…

Absolutely agree. One of the male MAFS contestants last year said something akin to 'I prefer women who have had work done' like how has that even become a beauty standard ?

Edited

One goon on a tv show for idiots does not represent normal men. Yet many normal women are getting these fillers done, just look at aesthetics available on every high street. It used to be botoxing creases now it puffing your cheeks and chin out like that doll off Saw films. I can only hope this tragedy clamps down on this unregulated and dangerous industry.

I'd like to know why some women have such a crippling lack of self-esteem as to be this vulnerable to external pressures.

ThatWittyNewt · 26/09/2024 16:06

I agree. We can't tell the motive

Everything in life is a risk though. People have autonomy to make choices for themselves

Of course but I think it’s sensible to limit the unnecessary risks.

Alcohol, smoking and junk foods represent a greater risk to society than this though

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 26/09/2024 16:08

I'm happy to have a massive dinaric nose, small boobs, deep forehead lines, a tummy that I can roll up from pregnancy, a missing back molar because they couldn't do root canal and I can't get the time off to have an implant done, plus it's not very visible. I feel so sad when I see celebs getting surgery done to look a certain way. There's a lot to be said about being content with oneself.

Yes calling someone a ‘female dog’ is the height of debating skills.

I'm just lowering my standards to yours. I think you will find that I did not call you a female dog.

Someone who goes digging around to bring up posts irrelevant to the topic isn't a person I am going to debate with . Save your breath. Not wasting my time.

Social fucking media. If all you see every day pumped into your phone is Insta, Facebook, TOWIE, MAFS, Celebs Go Dating, then you start to think plastic faces are the norm, and from there it goes to fake arses. The average person on these programmes is so fake - hair, teeth, lashes, nails. It just extrapolates to what you cant add on you add in, hence fillers.

You're right, they do, but this is one that might be easier to tackle?

I've a great nail tech, very driven, great business head on her. Always developing her skills. This means going on 2 day courses on injecting fillers, what have you (I don't keep up!) costing maybe £3000.

Now, I am very fond of her personally - have been going to her for a long time now - and she does great nails but would I hell ever let her near me with a needle!! I'm sure she's very careful and particular about what she is doing but I'd hesitate to have any of those procedures carried out even by someone medically qualified....

No, I think you will find you did.

And pray tell, what might be the relevance of that to the price of eggs??? I'm not a member of the RF, so that the actual fuck are you on about???
How low do you have to go! Maybe try a rational argument next time instead of going all female dog.

What do you even mean by that? You're making no sense!

If this poor lady wasn't "suited to motherhood" then maybe she would have figured that out before having 5 children?

@Runnerinthenight the thing is it's impossible to regulate, people will always want these services and will do anything to get them.

It's a bit like medications etc., that are available for private prescriptions. You just have to trust that people will get them legitimately. Sadly not everyone does and they pay the price for that

Why are these women looking at this stuff? Why do they get these apps, watch this shit telly, not put their phones down? What are they getting from these apps etc that undoubtedly make them feel inadequate and shit about themselves, that makes having them worthwhile? What hole do these apps fill? Is it boredom?

They werent married. And although he looks like a traveller isnt it bad for men to tell women what to do/ not to do?

Not if they're planning on a dangerous and unnecessary procedure. I think anyone who loved someone would try to convince them otherwise. Wouldn't you?

I think the problem is that because this stuff isn't illegal people think it is safe, we live in a society where most dangerous stuff is illegal and it creates these assumptions of safety.

If these procedures were illegal, then a lot of people would think twice. For some reason people think that a medical procedure in a shed must be safe if it's legal.

A lot of stuff is only legal, because the government haven't got round to banning it yet, stuff doesn't start as illegal and then waits for the government to legalise it.

CameraGown · 26/09/2024 16:22

It's not a conventional BBL, it's filler, totally unregulated and anyone can offer it

I dare say "Dane" let her get on with whatever it was. She worked in that industry, he'd likely put the onus on her and I doubt they sat down over dinner and debated the risks of it.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 26/09/2024 16:24

Oh god I’ve just read the daily mail
link I posted as it’s been updated and it showed her before she started messing with her face. She was a VERY pretty woman. What on earth is going on where already very attractive women are using fillers and Botox to ‘enhance’ their faces and basically running their looks in the process?

It has to be body dysmorphia surely? Too much scrutinising of perceived flaws.

SerendipityJane · 26/09/2024 16:24

If these procedures were illegal, then a lot of people would think twice.

The history of abortion suggestions otherwise.

itwasnevermine · 26/09/2024 16:25

@YesterdaysFuture but when done properly they're a lot safer, same as a lot of things - people choose the cheaper price point and sometimes have to deal with the consequences

I dont get this either. I've only seen 20 mins of love island and it was the biggest pile of vacuous shit I've ever seen. I am not saying everything we watch has to be noble or intellectual by any means but I just dont see the appeal of this kind of wanky tv.

You clearly don't work in TV advertising ...
