F**king hats in restaurants

Is my new irritation!!!!

Stayed at a naive hotel last night, at breakfast this morning, two separate men wearing caps for in the restaurant .

On holiday in the summer (boiling hot) men had to wear long trousers for dinner, no shorts, but you could turn up in a baseball cap 🤔

When did this become acceptable?
I resist the urge to knock it off their heads?
I don't know why it makes me so irrationally angry either (peri)

Is it just me?

How would you know whether they were bald? They were wearing hats.

Obviously she went and ripped their hats off in a fit of rage 🤣

Oops image didn't load. Trying again

Now, that is a breakfast hat! 👏

Doubt those ladies wore hats!

Maybe they wore merkins instead?

Noodles9391 · 22/09/2024 14:29

Theres so many other issues you’re not considering . I’m constantly in a cap even indoors as I have chronic migraines and overhead lights are a trigger. Why does what I wear on my head bother you ? It’s not scruffy it’s practical . I have to wear my sunglasses too - would you moan about that as well ?

Rosscameasdoody · 22/09/2024 14:29

DarkForces · 22/09/2024 13:17

Hats don't bother me, but fucking anything in public is a no no!

Wish I’d said that !! 😁

Unless they were stripping to a Tom Jones song! 🤣

sonofrageandlove · 22/09/2024 14:29

I dumped a guy for this once. Really gave me the ick that he couldn’t take his cap off even when we sat down for dinner.

Zone2NorthLondon · 22/09/2024 14:30

Think op has tried to be mn cliquey meaning to type naice but got naïve.
that or she does actually frequent naive hotels

Bananapancakemaker · 22/09/2024 14:32

Hat wearing at all times or always in public can be a religious thing too.

ItsTheGAGGGGGG · 22/09/2024 14:32

TomAllenWife · 22/09/2024 14:02

And neither of these young men were bald and I find it unlikely that both had severe scarring needing a hat

More likely they are scruffy entitled Gen Zers

Isn’t it funny how ageism isn’t a problem when it’s targeted towards the younger generation? Funny that. Really fucking funny

Cherrysoup · 22/09/2024 14:32

Couldn’t get worked up about this, although I think it’s quite poor etiquette. However, I don’t allow students to have their hoodies up in class on non-uniform days.

It used to be rude didn’t it? Men wearing hats indoors. Fine for women though, expected even 🤨
Society has moved on OP, you should too.

FriYayyy · 22/09/2024 14:35

The OP when she gets her husband and his luscious mane back to the naive room after breakfast.

That was her husband. Fresh back from Turkey.

Over40Overdating · 22/09/2024 14:37

I don’t think peri is your problem. Crashing snobbery and little else in the real world to worry about, maybe?

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 22/09/2024 14:41

You And Jeeves.

I wonder if these people ever actually enjoy anything. They're so busy looking for something to criticise and elevate them above others, that they can't have a good time.

Domainedor · 22/09/2024 14:43

I know that it has traditionally been considered poor etiquette for men (but not women) to wear hats in restaurants but I don't I'd notice and, if I did, I'm sure that I wouldn't care.

Honestly OP, your reaction is nuts.

RitaIncognita · 22/09/2024 14:43

Evidently, the origin of the etiquette rule that men uncover indoors is medieval: knights removed their helmets to show their faces to indicate that they were friend not foe.

Etiquette evolves. I think it's a bit challenging to come up with a defense of this particular bit of etiquette here in the 21st Century.

poppyzbrite4 · 22/09/2024 14:27

Doubt those ladies wore hats!

Maybe that’s who Tom Jones was thinking of when he sang “You Can Leave Your Hat On”…

FriYayyy · 22/09/2024 14:45

"knights removed their helmets"

Please don't get the OP started on her husbands helmet

SpiggingBelgium · 22/09/2024 14:46

It was almost as if he and his parents were hearing a request that it should be removed, for the first time ever.

I doubt there was any “almost” about it.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 22/09/2024 14:47

Sorry OP, but I think it is just you!

housethatbuiltme · 22/09/2024 14:47

Actual rich people do not try too hard to look rich.

I have been to many nice hotels/restaurants and you can always tell the people trying to hard because they think because its super special to them that its a unique experience where special rules must apply where as to many its just a hotel/restaurant. People do not tend to rock formal wear or have weird 'etiquette rules' at breakfast, they are just grabbing food before starting their day.

My DH friends wife is 'old money' and they stay in posh places all the time, they day to day dress in (granted good brand) wellies, outdoor clothing and yes caps mostly as they own lots of land and are very outdoorsy people.

They look like farmers, probably not what most envision of a 5 star hotel experience but thats the kind of people you are more likely to get not James Bond in formal wear asking for a shaken not stirred martini and miss manners smacking hands and staunchly correcting 'no, thats the grapefruit spoon'.
