I'm in a hotel bedroom peacefully having a cup of tea. Or was.... the couple in the room next door have just started having noisy sex. And the walls are thin. Lots of huffing, puffing, moaning and groaning.

I've been on the top bunk of a bunkbed in an Australian backpacker hostel when a couple was having sex on the bottom bunk. It's general 'hostel courtesy' to just pretend to be asleep 😂 I'm sure I returned the favour at some point!

I honestly can't. The noise isn't voluntary. It just happens. I'm not talking about performative nonsense, just typical sex.

Have you never had sex say at the in laws, or somewhere where you've actively wanted to make a concerted effort to be quiet? Not saying people in hotels should, but there are ways to be quiet if you want to!

I would disagree that it’s a choice to make noise. I have housemates so try my best to be quiet but sometimes noises slip out 😂. And you definitely can’t stop the heavy breathing and creaking.

For my 30th my now DH and I went to an every posh hotel (we had only been dating a couple of months at the time).

As we went up to bed after the bar closed, we followed an older couple up the stairs and it turned out they were in the room next to us. They said to us 'don't make too much noise!' As they went into their room. Paper thin walls.

Ten mins later, knock at the door. Some bloke around the same age, clearly got the wrong room. We go back to bed but hear the door next door open and close.

We spent at least 4 hours listening to all 3 of them getting it on together. At one point we couldn't work out if they had stopped to watch some kind of nature programme as the noises were quite ...primal.

My DH was mortified and I didn't end up getting any that night as he was put off but their noise. I was more cross that they only stopped at about 5am so I fell asleep and we missed breakfast!

I think you're a prude. And if noisy hotel sex bothers you, pay to stay somewhere better that has better sound proofing.

I was once in a hotel that had atrium style rooms with the lifts in the middle. I was walking to the lift and the room opposite had a couple of very enthusiastic shaggers, he was moaning as much as her and could hear every slap of his balls. There were about 10 of us waiting for the lift in awkward silence. Never seen such a rush when the door opened!
