Ordered new duvets the other day. Were supposed to arrive at store Wednesday.

I was doing a tip run Wednesday morning and saw email that order had arrived at store to collect.

I'd posted a few places about donating old duvets for dogs etc but no where took them so just took them to the tip.

Got home and opened email and saw the order had been split into 2 and my duvet was at store to collect but the kids duvets were not.

Tracking for kids duvets says 'we are waiting for your item to leave our depot' so they've not even picked them yet.

I phoned customer service and asked them to resend them. She said they can't as there not in stock.

I looked online and they are!

So I phoned back and they said no, we don't have the option for click and collect to resend items.

So I can either wait to see if anything happens by Tuesday or cancel now and reorder myself.

But refund will take 5 days.

I don't have the money to just reorder them! And if I reordered them why will THOSE ones be sent but mine haven't??

The kids have no duvets, I know that my fault for not double le checking the email but it's getting bloody cold.

Why can't they just resend them :(

This is why you don't bin stuff until you have the replacement in your hand.

Blankets, coats. They'll manage few days. Make it an adventure!

This reminds me of when we bought a new mismatched bed in the sale, the divan base and the mattress didn't match. As it was Christmas Eve we took it home lashed to the roof bars, got home and took the old one downstairs, putting it in the garden ready for a tip journey and started to assemble the new one. We found that the holes in the middle of the base to hold the two pieces together were misaligned, by this time there had been a downpour of biblical proportions and the old bed was unusable. We had to take the two pieces of the base back to the store to exchange for one that fitted together properly, they were less than impressed 10 minutes before closing on Christmas Eve!

Did that make you feel better writing that?

jen337 · 21/09/2024 12:32

Worse things happen at sea. I think this one’s on you for not checking the order email properly. Don’t put all your duvets in the tip eggs in one basket.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 21/09/2024 12:44

why so eager to take them to the tip? What if the duvets arrived but weren’t suitable and you had to return them. Cant really blame Asda for your kids being cold.

mycatsbestfriend · 21/09/2024 12:47

I wonder if you could stuff their duvet covers with towels or sheets

I have a £5 DD set up in memory of my nana to the donkey sanctuary.

And yes, I ordered a weightloss pen with a discount code on a split payment app to see if it works, I probably do t be able to afford to continue it but I thought it might give me a kick-start and they do referal codes so I was hoping I might be able to get money off future ones.

The duvets were £30 each and I have 3 children so it's not a small amount added up and is not a normal monthly expense

They have blankies and oddies, I'm just kicking myself I binned their proper duvets as it is getting chillier now! Hopefully the new ones will arrive soon

You don't have to justify your expenditure, OP. Ignore people being goady.

JaneAustenshandbag · 21/09/2024 12:53

I’d ask on the local Facebook page if anyone has any old duvets going spare. Our local page always has people who have got spare things in good condition to give away.

Getitwright · 21/09/2024 12:54

Ignore all the unhelpful responses around your income, expenditure, not helpful. I would concentrate on finding a way of keeping kiddies warm for a few days, make it a bit of an adventure for them. Possibly borrow blankets, throws from family and friends, could they somehow sleep together, will be warmer, even if it’s only pushing beds together. Annoying around order, mistake regarding not checking delivery, but it’s not a big deal really for a few days. Let your creativity, adventure kick in for a few days. Good luck.

Good idea- otherwise a charity shop might have some woollen blankets?

{These are quite expensive now, even in charity shops}

'Early's' is a good make to look for.

autienotnaughty · 21/09/2024 12:56

I would have kept them as spares. What would you do if someone vomited etc on one?

Needmorelego · 21/09/2024 12:57

@KittyGetSmall £30 each ! Quilts don't normally cost that much do they.
I'm sure the last one I bought (single) was about 8 quid or something.
You'll just have to wait for the refund unfortunately.
Annoying - but unless you live in the North Pole you won't be that cold just yet.

BobbyBiscuits · 21/09/2024 11:11

That sounds annoying. I'm the type that would Google name of CEO and email their office. It's bad optics for the CEOs EAs to ignore the plight of children with no duvets. Be assertive and explain how you need them to sort it out. Don't be angry or rude though obviously. I've had good results from this approach before.

On a side note, I'm wondering if homeless charities would take washed used duvets/bedding etc? Just a thought as it does seem a shame to throw it out when there's people going to be on the streets cold. They could have drop off points or special 'bins' near the dump for clean bedding.
Of course I'm not criticising you, just more thinking it would be a good idea.

Hope it gets sorted asap.

As an EA, I’d roll my eyes and forward to customer services to deal with it.

HowToSaveAWife · 21/09/2024 13:00

KittyGetSmall · 21/09/2024 11:11

The refund will take 5 days. I already spent the budget for the duvets, I dont have the money until the refund is returned

Well then very bloody stupid to dump before they arrived OP. For goodness sake, take some personal responsibility and be cross with yourself, not asda.

And you had other options to walk-in and buy kids duvets rather than order them online and dump the old ones before they arrived.

Nagatha · 21/09/2024 13:02

It’s not so freezing that they’ll urgently need thick duvets in the next 5 days. Get the refund and buy elsewhere.
In the meantime use something else or borrow some.

Wow, how rude! As long as the kids are fed and warm, it’s literally no business of anyone else what the OP buys!

Skipsurvey · 21/09/2024 13:05

what did they use last winter?

That's good. I just use a thin fleecy blanket no duvet and it's not cold for me

BobbyBiscuits · 21/09/2024 13:40

@FawnFrenchieMum I guess I'm good with EAs. I was one too but also a top sales person. So it does depend on your approach. But I'd say don't ask don't get. 🤣

Yes I took them to the tip as I recieved an email that their new ones had arrived to collect, but it was only mine.

I did try and find somewhere to donate them but dog shelters don't take them anymore it seems.

I'm sure you can manage to make up an adequate, comfortable bed for your children without duvets. Needs must. Or else have a look in charity shops, they steam clean everything and only sell decent stuff. Cheap too. It's always handy to have a couple of spares of most things.

The Asda website should not have shown them to be in stock if they were not but stuff happens.

I've only quite recently occasionally ordered from Asda and found them quite efficient so you will almost certainly get them soon.

frannygallops · 21/09/2024 13:49

Given that it's your fault, why not let the kids use your new duvet and you manage with something else till it's sorted

Grammarnut · 21/09/2024 13:54

Why didn't you read the email before you got rid of the old duvets? And why tip them. Useful for sitting on grass at picnics etc.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 21/09/2024 13:55

Well you kids have oodies so that's cool, that will go some way to keeping them cosy!

I don't think you can really let our children go without duvets, how big are your kids? Can they come in under yours? Otherwise I think you're going to just have to let them have yours and be cold yourself for a few days.

To be honest this would be a knocking on neighbours doors situation for me. If that's awkward then have you got the Nextdoor app? You could put a friendly but in-a-sticky-situation post on there, I'm sure they'd be plenty of people willing to lend a duvet or sleeping bag for a couple days x
