OH bought me a thong bikini

I am 46, I have lost a lot of weight recently and I am feeling really comfortable in my body atm. More than I have for years.

Going on holiday at the weekend and my DH (that stands for dickhead, right?) made a joke about me wearing a thong bikini bottom and jokingly I said yeah, thought we were messing about. I have actually bought myself 2 bikinis showing more flesh than I would have normally shown, but I literally sunbath, I don't walk around in just my bikini

DH (dickhead again, yeah?) only went on amazon and ordered me a black pair of bikini bottoms, more or less a thong 😱

Am I too old at 46 to bare more flesh? I would quite like the confidence to do this but in the back of my mind I'm like, anyone looking at me will be thinking old woman in a thong, is it not just for younger women with perfect figures, or is it acceptable?

Bet he won't. He will wear nice comfy shorts that aren't designed to appeal to the male gaze.

Take it with you and decide when you're there. A relaxed beach full of strangers on holiday is a world away from the UK and the opinions of MN, so what you think after reading this and what you feel when you're there may well be very different. (And you know you want to!)

Order a mankini for him. Preferably in a neon colour.

Was in Spain last week and plenty of older ladies in thongs and topless. Nobody bat an eyelid...and I thought good for them.

I'm at the beach now. There's young & old and all body types parading in them and I hate them. Also the teeny nipple only covering triangle bikini tops. I don't like them because I don't want to see full arses & boobs that are one wardrobe malfunction away from being naked.

They don't offend me, I just don't think they're nice. I do like that women aren't covering up anymore with the old skirted swimsuits just because they're not a certain shape.

Personally I'm tired of being told I can't wear something due to my age.

It seems beyond some people's comprehension that women don't need to be 'appealing' to strangers, as we are not in fact landscaping objects.

Likewise, some fail to grasp that women wear swimwear for reasons other than entry into a mysteriously unannounced beauty contest! The mysteriously unknown judges might mark us down for sags & cellulite, but that's all going on in their own weird heads so it's of no interest.

As for Finnula and her angst over the 'desperation' of scantily-clothed women: she's clearly not talking about desperation for an even tan, so she probably likes to think women only expose flesh in pursuit of sex. At least your DH is delighted for you and hasn't come over all insecure now that you have lost weight. Plenty of men do.

I wish no one wore them at Centre Parcs. Who needs someone else’s arse in their face as they go up water slide stairs or come out of the rapids? Though to be fair, my normal costume is half way up my arse after both of those 🤣

Yesterday at my swim session there were two women wearing thong swimsuits. Def. not a good look IMO and surely uncomfortable to have a thong disappearing into your crack?
And no, I wasn’t looking on purpose - couldn’t help seeing, since one of them kept walking back and forth down the side of the pool to see whether there was room in the sauna.

To be fair it’s not just female bodies, I’d feel exactly the same about a bloke in a thong 🤢🤢🤢
