OH bought me a thong bikini

I am 46, I have lost a lot of weight recently and I am feeling really comfortable in my body atm. More than I have for years.

Going on holiday at the weekend and my DH (that stands for dickhead, right?) made a joke about me wearing a thong bikini bottom and jokingly I said yeah, thought we were messing about. I have actually bought myself 2 bikinis showing more flesh than I would have normally shown, but I literally sunbath, I don't walk around in just my bikini

DH (dickhead again, yeah?) only went on amazon and ordered me a black pair of bikini bottoms, more or less a thong 😱

Am I too old at 46 to bare more flesh? I would quite like the confidence to do this but in the back of my mind I'm like, anyone looking at me will be thinking old woman in a thong, is it not just for younger women with perfect figures, or is it acceptable?

I wouldn’t because I can’t imagine anything worse than having nylon up my crack - sounds like a recipe for thrush. Not to mention I’d look horrendous. But if you feel like you’ve got the confidence, go for it. I’m also in agreement that calling someone you profess to love, dickhead, as a nickname, isn’t cool.

Wear what you want, he obviously thinks you're going to look good in them but you should wear what you're comfortable in, and no 46 isn't too old

TakeMe2Insanity · 20/09/2024 15:45

jolies1 · 20/09/2024 14:41

I would normally side with the woman but I think here your DH is trying to let you know he likes how you look and your body confidence.

Wear it if you like it (keep it just for the beach & wear shorts over for wandering about?) or send it back if you don’t!

Edited

This!

PoachesPeaches · 20/09/2024 15:47

Wear what you feel good in. Age and others opinions are not relevant

tillyandmilly · 20/09/2024 15:48

Young or old they look horrible on a beach! Whats wrong with a piece of material covering your bum!

SquatWeightaMinute · 20/09/2024 15:52

Despite the vast majority of Mumsnet saying they are awful, when we were in Mexico earlier this year there were lots of women wearing them, all body shapes and sizes.

Wear it if you want to, people can look elsewhere if they don’t like it.

diddl · 20/09/2024 15:53

women of all ages seem to wear whatever swimwear they want,

What a concept!

You're not too old Op.

Wear it if you want.

99victoria · 20/09/2024 14:42

Do you do a lot of weight training OP? Squats, lunges etc? Because, tbh, if you don't, the fact that you've lost lots of weight doesn't negate the fact that you're in your late 40s and your glutes may not be up to the job of holding your butt cheeks up or disguising your cellulite.

No judgement honestly, I have great admiration for women of all shapes and sizes who wear bikinis with confidence but I'm afraid that I'm another one who thinks that thong bikinis are not flattering on most women - sorry

Why does she have to 'hold her butt cheeks up' or disguise her cellulite?

99victoria · 20/09/2024 15:57

She doesn't HAVE to. She asked the question about whether it was something she should do as a 46 year old - I was just pointing out the reality of the situation. Often we only look at ourselves from the front. I don't care if she has cellulite and saggy bum cheeks (like most of us over 40) - I'm just giving her the information she asked for to help her make her decision 🙄

Shinydoor · 20/09/2024 14:33

Why do you keep calling your husband a dickhead?

Because she hates him. Just like most of the women who post on here about their husbands do

ThirstyThursday · 20/09/2024 16:13

Finnulafishface · 20/09/2024 14:51

@ThirstyThursday and you think as a mature women myself, I don't know that?

I do not get this desperation that seems to be the norm at the moment, especially with older celebrities for older women to have everything out and on display - just why?

@Finnulafishface

I don't know you're a mature woman.

IF you are. Why would you say what you did, it was nasty & uncalled for.

your last comment makes no sense in relation to the OP!

Cantsleeper · 20/09/2024 16:14

Finnulafishface · 20/09/2024 15:20

Oh do you? Please enlighten me further why my opinion is so strange to you?

I don’t look at anyone and think ‘what they’re wearing makes them look desperate’, I don’t really know why you would. That sounds faux-naive, I know- I promise it’s not, I’m autistic and genuinely don’t understand. Desperate for what?

Catza · 20/09/2024 16:18

Justcallmebebes · 20/09/2024 15:11

Is your mum Madonna?

Nope. Just a wise woman who makes decisions about her life without worrying much about what strangers may think about her. Every time I ask her about clothes (is it too bright, too tight, too short?) her one and only question in return is “do you feel comfortable wearing it?”

Thongs are wrong on anyone, just no

This 👆

countrysidelife2024 · 20/09/2024 16:22

Id just be happy my husband obviously loves my body ...... i have bought my husband tighter t shirts because i want to see his abs.. we all have likes.

What I don't get is that in a parallel universe cellulite and 'saggy' bum cheeks could be desired traits. It's only society as a collective telling us its not. Back in the 80s having a big bum was really unfashionable, now it's bigger = better. Squats and implants and scrunch bum leggings are 'in'.

I'd feel naked in a thong in public, but that's the only reason I wouldn't. I don't wear thong knickers either and nobody sees those. But saying your opinion on what she 'should' do 'reality' isn't really the case when it's based on current conformity.

Catza · 20/09/2024 16:24

ouch321 · 20/09/2024 15:41

Thongs are vile at any age. I don't know why people are so self obsessed that they imagine strangers want to look at their bare arse.

We don’t imagine that which, I guess, makes us quite the opposite of self-obsessed. Personally, I imagine nobody would be interested enough to look at my arse and, therefore, shouldn’t form an opinion about what is and isn’t covering it.

onwardsup4 · 20/09/2024 16:26

Is it a proper up your bum thong ? I think they look awful on almost everyone but the ones that show a bit of bum cheek are ok. I'm looking for swimwear for my holiday and find the normal bum ones are really unflattering as well and kind of dig in to the cheeks. I'll probably play it safe and got shorts type as I am boring like that. Wear what you like and feel comfortable in, no one else will be worried

Solosax · 20/09/2024 16:26

Yak

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/09/2024 16:28

I think the use of 'dickhead' is a defence mechanism. I have a nickname for my husband, I'd never post it anywhere, I don't need to.

OP, people like or don't like this sort of bikini. If you do then wear it.

Op is 46 which isn't late 40s. I'm 43 and my arse doesn't need holding up and cellulite not an issue and so what if it is ?? Women of all ages have cellulite it's completely normal

muddyford · 20/09/2024 16:29

Buy him a mankini...

Billybobby · 20/09/2024 16:35

I'm your age, I bought one this year and wore it on holiday at the hotel pool, I looked hot IMO and DH was delighted. Plus now have a brown bum. Everyone's a winner - not bothered if bystanders agreed with me!

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 20/09/2024 16:35

@desparateidiot get on line and order a mankini for him!! demand he wears it!

Highlandspringg · 20/09/2024 16:35

Finnulafishface · 20/09/2024 14:35

Yeah I would think old women in a thong and to be honest there are a lot of younger women rhst wear them where it doesn't look good.

In what world is 46 old?
