OH bought me a thong bikini

I am 46, I have lost a lot of weight recently and I am feeling really comfortable in my body atm. More than I have for years.

Going on holiday at the weekend and my DH (that stands for dickhead, right?) made a joke about me wearing a thong bikini bottom and jokingly I said yeah, thought we were messing about. I have actually bought myself 2 bikinis showing more flesh than I would have normally shown, but I literally sunbath, I don't walk around in just my bikini

DH (dickhead again, yeah?) only went on amazon and ordered me a black pair of bikini bottoms, more or less a thong 😱

Am I too old at 46 to bare more flesh? I would quite like the confidence to do this but in the back of my mind I'm like, anyone looking at me will be thinking old woman in a thong, is it not just for younger women with perfect figures, or is it acceptable?

I don’t think thongs look good on anyone, whatever age or size. The sight of a piece of thin material rubbing between someone’s buttocks is just not appealing.

izzygirlis4 · 20/09/2024 16:38

I'm 48. I wear a thong bikini

I work out and am athletic looking so don't really care

Relearningbehaviour · 20/09/2024 16:38

I'm nobody should be walking around in a thong. Regardless of how good or bad, old or young they are.

Also I think they look bloody uncomfortable

What I don't get is that in a parallel universe cellulite and 'saggy' bum cheeks could be desired traits. It's only society as a collective telling us its not. Back in the 80s having a big bum was really unfashionable, now it's bigger = better. Squats and implants and scrunch bum leggings are 'in'.

I'd feel naked in a thong in public, but that's the only reason I wouldn't. I don't wear thong knickers either and nobody sees those. But saying your opinion on what she 'should' do 'reality' isn't really the case when it's based on current conformity.

Go live in that parallel universe then fgs

crumpet · 20/09/2024 16:39

It’s up to you. Wear it if you want. Don’t wear it if you don’t.

and don’t feel pressured into wearing it just because he wants you to

Neinneinnein · 20/09/2024 16:40

Wear what you like. Personally I've always thought thong swimwear a tad unhygienic but maybe that's just me.

CuriousMoe · 20/09/2024 16:41

Try it on! See what you think. I swear by them after years of feeling uncomfortable with full coverage bikini bottoms digging in I tried a thong bikini and it was a revelation! I save the smaller ones for lazing by the pool during the day where it’s more private but even at the beach I wouldn’t wear a full coverage one now, on my body they are just so unflattering. DH loves it (obviously 🙄) and those are the only opinions that matter to me. If you’re uncomfortable though don’t wear it.

User364837 · 20/09/2024 16:44

why are you taking it so seriously? If you don’t feel comfortable wearing it on the beach then strut around in it at home infront of your DH 😀

Justcallmebebes · 20/09/2024 15:11

Is your mum Madonna?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ThePrologue · 20/09/2024 16:52

Billybobby · 20/09/2024 16:35

I'm your age, I bought one this year and wore it on holiday at the hotel pool, I looked hot IMO and DH was delighted. Plus now have a brown bum. Everyone's a winner - not bothered if bystanders agreed with me!

Clearly some here have no problem with how amazing they think they look!
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. In any aspect of life.

Coruscations · 20/09/2024 16:53

Thong bikinis look terrible on anyone.

MouseMama · 20/09/2024 16:57

I just had a holiday in croatia and was a bit surprised that really most women (of any age) were wearing thongs on the beach. I’ve holidayed in Scotland and Wales the last few years so hadn’t realised this has become ubiquitous - certainly they didn’t all have perfect 21 yr old physiques so just wear what you feel comfortable in!

PinkTonic · 20/09/2024 17:05

Thongs do appear to be ubiquitous at the moment but my personal feeling is that irrespective of your age or body I don’t want to see your arse. I especially don’t want to see your undercarriage when you’re bending over or lying on or getting up from a sunbed and unfortunately it’s happened quite a lot over the past couple of years. So if you go for it please make sure the gusset covers your labia.

MushMonster · 20/09/2024 17:09

Lol, wear it if you like it.
Nobody would think anything.
You will get an all over tan.
You can throw on a beach cover up to walk around, if you do not feel like walking around so.
Me, I hate thongs, I find them very uncomfortable.

You have posted about this before. The exact same thing.

I think it is a matter of body shape. Thongs are very uncomfortable for me, but I rarely get the more coverage ones wedged in. They are great to get a full tan though.

I thought it sounded familiar too

Nothanks17 · 20/09/2024 17:29

Wear it! I think he obviously thinks you'll look fab in them and also doesn't mind anyone else seeing either. You get that better tan why not.

Secondstart1001 · 20/09/2024 17:40

You could just wear it for him. I think he’s telling you that you look great and that he fancies you. It’s a nice problem to have.

namechangetheworld · 20/09/2024 17:45

I absolutely can't stand men buying women clothes unprompted, but it actually sounds like he was trying to do a nice thing here.

But no, I wouldn't wear a thong at your age.

Billybobby · 20/09/2024 17:51

@ThePrologue not a bad thing to feel positive about how I look, surely?! And what everyone else thought, well, who cares? I thought every body was a beach body these days...

Itonlytakesadiagram · 20/09/2024 17:59

Hmmm well, for what it's worth I think it's not the worst thing that he bought it. When I went to Greece last year there were arses everywhere, walking about, in cafes. Then they started with the crochet dresses with thongs. DH's eyes were nearly popping out of his head and DS10 was walking along with his hand at the side of his face saying oh dear, oh dear.

OrangeCarrot · 20/09/2024 18:19

Might just be me but I think you should wear what you want within reason. By within reason I mean that if it would make a child uncomfortable because it’s so revealing then it’s probably not ok. Unless of course it’s an adult only area.

Lemonadeand · 20/09/2024 18:25

I think it’s quite sweet that he bought that for you. He obviously finds you attractive and thinks you have a great body. I personally wouldn’t be wearing one, though!

teatoast8 · 20/09/2024 18:26

My mam is in her sixties and wears thongs. Each to their own
