To say that people in Sussex are awful?

Can't quite put my finger on what it is, but generally in Sussex when working or travelling there, whether in towns, coast or countryside, people do seem to have this awful, cold and arrogant demeanour about them that they are somehow something they aren't?

Just seem to look down their noses at anyone else and must say I don't think you see that as much even in London!

Must add as well, there do seem to be a rather large proportion of quite aggressive elderly ex-Londoners who almost come across as ex football hooligans?

AIBU or is there something I'm missing? anyone know anywhere else like this?🤔

Is it just Sussex (still haven’t made it clear WHICH Sussex or where) that you look down upon? I live in Swansea, have at us too if you like? Seem to need to get some stuff off your chest…

I am not in Sussex and I am quite awful . I must be lost ! .

Could I please just make it known that we put an awful lot of effort into being the 'snooty south' and no-one ever gives us the credit for that effort. It's almost as if you think everyone is just naturally like that.

I've no interest in Sussex, but kudos to the OP for managing to get a couple of cheap shots in at London and Londoners on a thread which is nothing to do with either. You have learned Mumsnet well.

I used to live in Sussex but was exiled to Croydon as part of a cultural exchange programme. It was because I wasn't sufficiently awful.

I live in snooty sussex and I have to say, I haven't found that at all in my many years of living here
If we are all that bad, then please feel free to stay well away

There is a house for sale in the street behind ours if you feel the need to relocate to an awful county (well two counties or two and bit of you include Brighton) full of awful people. We guarantee to make you feel utterly unwelcome. 🖕

Are the people offended, those that moved from London to Sussex to get a bigger house? Or those that were born there (like me)? 😂I am not offended, East Sussex is full of a lot of awful stuck up people

We may have taken you place in Sussex under that scheme as we were relocated from S E London - I accidentally spoke to someone on the tube once which made me so awful I had to be forcefully relocated instantly.

I applied to Sussex uni but didn't get in as too nice.
