To ask how long can you all keep it tight before you need a blow out?

Coatsoff42 · 18/09/2024 22:44

Only because after a whole Sumer of keeping it tight and responsible and the return to school stuff I am ready to drop the plough and cut loose. It feels like long enough.

An I unreasonable to say there is a limit on how long you can be good and work hard before you go mad?

You need a break, Coatsoff. Did you not go away for a summer holiday this year? Plan a long weekend somewhere peaceful where you can relax and please yourself.

'drop the Plough'?

Where did that expression come from.

What came to mind was shake off the shackles but i feel that is 100% inappropriate. How can you describe dropping your responsibilities? Shaking off the burdens of life? Climb out of the furrow? Something like that.

OP I’ll join your cult! 😁

Lifeomars · 19/09/2024 00:16

What do you mean? all a bit garbled and strange. Do you mean feeling restricted by routine and wanting to break free

Testingthetimes · 19/09/2024 00:17

I’m with you OP. Cut me loose!!

i hear you

Coatsoff42 · 19/09/2024 00:19

@Lifeomars yes but does everyone else feel like breaking out, or is everyone else content is probably the question.

@Katielovesteatime
lets go! Life is short!

Ah, I’ve been going to bed early and doing work and house work for too long and wonder if everyone else feels like going out and going crazy after a while. Maybe I should grow up and everyone else keeps plugging away happily.
I feel like I need to go AWOL for an evening after a while.
i was wondering if people are happy working and caring ad infinitum or if they get to a point where they need to shake it off, then carry on.
i feel lt, i wish we had the nutso religious ceremonies they had in the Middle Ages where you could really let go of the everyday worries.

I think it is finding a balance, this is normal I think, everyone needs to habe breaks and let their hair down once in a while - getting the right balance helps imo

Franjipanl8r · 19/09/2024 00:28

This is what karaoke’s for.

(Dropping the plough sounds like a code word for going to the loo).

I really like the way you express yourself OP! Some pps are responding with a lack of imagination.

Could definitely do with dropping the plough for a bit myself.

BlackShuck3 · 19/09/2024 00:32

Dropping the plough sounds a bit 'revolutionary manifesto' to me; shake off the yoke of oppression, etc.
To your point OP, I'm too lazy for any of that wild stuff these days.

blueshoes · 19/09/2024 00:36

I am going to drop my plough in a few years.

It is called retirement 😁

Phlegminem · 19/09/2024 00:37

YANBU I was at breaking point last week and needed to do something, shout into the void in the middle of field, shave off all my hair idk I had to do something!

My something ended up getting completely drunk, sticking on headphones and having a silent disco by myself on the local beach. It was so therapeutic and I knew that if anyone saw me dancing away by myself they would think I was crazy but in that moment I just did not care. Might sound crazy but I'd put it up there as one of my top ten moments in my life, I can't explain how free I felt looking out at the sea under the stars, with good music and just letting myself go.

Basically peasants in the olden days worked hard, then had a tonne of religious holidays to dress up and cut loose, but we have nothing. It’s all very sanitised. It’s all work and then a very photogenic holiday with massive expectations.

I think wonder if there is a time limit before other people feel like shaking it off, the grind.

Well, it's Mabon on the 22nd so you're in luck unless you can hang on until Samhain. Get your floaty dress and druid cloak on, and wassail around a bit. No slaughtering goats though. That's just messy. Dig up some spuds and there's your harvest feast.

BoreOffAboutYerChickensEmma · 19/09/2024 00:47

Grab a tambourine, strap some bells to your ankles and go Morris Dancing. A few hey nonny nos, and a green grow the rushes o and that should do it. Slap your partners stick and go dance your heart out

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/09/2024 00:53

@Phlegminem thats sounds fantastic. Good for you!

Sounds like Sybil Fawlty.

That's funny, I'm hearing it in a west country accent.

Is this related to hair, farming, tummy problems or gin?

My responses are slightly different depending on which it is...

If it’s gin, there is no limit.

ImustLearn2Cook · 19/09/2024 01:29

Sometimes I wish I could find a remote beach with no one to see me strip off naked and swim in the ocean. Swimming naked feels so amazing and freeing.

I have skinny dipped before in my younger years a couple of times with friends (when we thought we were alone) but both times we got caught out.

I know that there are places where there are nudist beaches, but I worry about there being some pervy, predatory types that go there deliberately. And I also don’t feel like I’d enjoy the freedom of swimming naked while being looked at.

ImustLearn2Cook · 19/09/2024 01:32

@WallaceinAnderland That Queen song totally nails it.

As a fluent speaker of English, reasonable Italian and semi-fluent Thai I am unable to understand what the hell this poster is on about. If she means she has been working hard and now feels the need to let her hair down on a night out then why the hell doesn’t she just do that. We all deserve to party on down now and again so OP if that’s what you mean get the hell outta there and go and have a blast you certainly don’t need our permission.

Hoolihan · 19/09/2024 02:51

Totally get this OP. I want to howl at the moon. Paint the town red, or black. Cast spells, cause mischief, maybe smash some stuff. Feel the wind, see the stars, cry, laugh, dance.
