If you would miss a bath in a house?

We are redoing our downstairs bathroom currently has a standing separate shower cubicle and a small _not full size adult bath. It's not a big bathroom, we have a shower room upstairs.

I was thinking of removing the bath and putting in a larger walk in shower. We don't use the bath and environmentally i think the shower is better but conscious if we sell the house it would put people off there being no bath.

Yes, I used mine a lot for bathing, watering my plants, soaking laundry, or hand washing things.

whirlyhead · 18/09/2024 18:27

I had a bath in my last house that I never used, so when I bought my current house (with a bath) I ripped out the bath and put in a massive walk in shower which I bloody love!

do what works for you. The next owner can always out a bath back in.

QuestionableMouse · 18/09/2024 18:27

And ime a bath is much easier with children than just a shower with a fixed shower head!

toastofthetown · 18/09/2024 18:28

Are you thinking of selling the house? Lack of bath would put me off, but if you have no imminent plans to move then plan the space how it works best for you to live in and figure out selling if and when you do it.

bettybyebye · 18/09/2024 18:28

We did this a couple of years ago (also had tiny bathroom with not full sized bath) and I don’t regret it at all!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/09/2024 18:30

I wouldn't be without a bath, but as long as there was space for one it wouldn't put me off a house I liked.

nOasistickets · 18/09/2024 18:30

I wouldn't as i dont take baths, but the kids do from time to time - like twice a year sort of thing. An estate agent always told it would be advantageous to have at least one bathtub in the house for when you sell it on. We're currently in the process of moving and the new house will have two bathtubs.

Strobbery · 18/09/2024 18:30

I love a bath, and it would put me off if there wasn’t one in a house.

mushpush · 18/09/2024 18:31

Honestly if the choice for me was a house with a bath or a house without a bath, I'd buy the one with!

However if you're looking at staying for many years to come, I'd do what works for you. If you're planning on selling soon and you won't get the full benefit of the bathroom you want (e.g only using it for a year before selling) I'd go for what would sell better.

GinToBegin · 18/09/2024 18:31

I’d suggest you keep a bath. We converted our family bathroom into a showroom; some time later, we put the house in the market, and lack of bathroom was mentioned a few times as deterring potential buyers. Had a bath put back in and sold not long after.

Flossyts · 18/09/2024 18:31

I wouldn’t want a house without a bath.

Clementine22 · 18/09/2024 18:31

I wouldn’t remove the bath if you do want to sell it in future, agree it’s easier for people with kids to bathe and I personally love a bath.

Snowpaw · 18/09/2024 18:33

If there was literally no space for a bath in a house it would put me off, but if there was the option to put one back in it wouldn't be an issue.

I wouldn't be without a bath at the moment. Young child and I also just love having baths, especially if I'm not feeling well. I use it daily.

Goodadvice1980 · 18/09/2024 18:33

Bath lover here! Only a shower option would put me off.

Aligirlbear · 18/09/2024 18:33

Did this when we moved into our new place, both bathrooms had a bath and separate cubicle shower. Ripped them out and put in large walk in showers with dual shower heads in both bathrooms. Fantastic to use and never missed our baths. Even visitors love our showers and never ask about a bath !

underused · 18/09/2024 18:34

Yes.

I only use it in the winter but coming home from a cold/wet walk and getting into a bath on a Sunday afternoon is worth it. Nobody needs an XL shower.

StiggyZardust · 18/09/2024 18:34

Yes, I hate showers. I have a long, deep bath.

Paisleydad · 18/09/2024 18:34

I haven't had a bath for years.

I don't smell.

CoastalCalm · 18/09/2024 18:35

I wouldn’t view a house with no bath

Tisfortired · 18/09/2024 18:35

Not for myself but for the kids, the younger one particularly hates the shower. My older one showers everyday but loves a bath now and again. I probably get in the bath once or twice a year (usually to play with fancy new Christmas/birthday sets!)

bifurCAT · 18/09/2024 18:36

We ripped out and had a walk-in shower. I maybe miss baths once a year (I was never much into them).

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 18/09/2024 18:36

I love my bath, I don't ever want to be without one until I can no longer get in and out.

Pixiewombat · 18/09/2024 18:37

I put one back in the last house. Buyer has now replaced it with a shower (10 years later). It's a fairly easy swap, don't worry about it. Do what works for you.

I have "rhumatics", so have epsom salt baths and DH is deaf, so it's easier for him to bath than shower, so it all depends on needs. If you're short of space, put a shower in.

PoachesPeaches · 18/09/2024 18:37

For me it's more is there space to have a tub of some sort, I could live with buying somewhere with only a shower if I knew I could refit it and get a bath tub even a small one.

BMW6 · 18/09/2024 18:40

We have a bath and separate shower cubicle. Neither of us has had a bath for over 15 years!

I'd rip it out but it's a big room so no point.
