If you would miss a bath in a house?

We are redoing our downstairs bathroom currently has a standing separate shower cubicle and a small _not full size adult bath. It's not a big bathroom, we have a shower room upstairs.

I was thinking of removing the bath and putting in a larger walk in shower. We don't use the bath and environmentally i think the shower is better but conscious if we sell the house it would put people off there being no bath.

You would be alienating 50% of buyers

Zanatdy · 18/09/2024 19:15

I haven’t used my Bath in probably 10yrs, so no I wouldn’t miss it as the kids have grown up and also just have a shower

NewGreenDuck · 18/09/2024 19:15

I don't recall the last time I had a bath, so it wouldn't worry me at all.

BarbedButterfly · 18/09/2024 19:15

I wouldn't consider a house without a bath and wouldn't want the expense of putting one in right away. If you aren't moving for a long time just factor in cost of replacing again when needed.

PlantDoctor · 18/09/2024 19:15

I think it would put off many parents of young children tbh

Vettrianofan · 18/09/2024 19:17

Getting older has meant that our bathroom with bath isn't getting used by me so much, but the youngest DC have used it regularly to bathe in. They have a mix of baths and showers.

If we ever refit the bathroom, it will become a wet room instead. The bath will come out.

It's also more environmentally friendly to have a shower.

ClockworkDisaster · 18/09/2024 19:18

My current house doesn’t have a bath. My previous ones all did. I barely ever used them.

However, now I don’t have the option of a bath I really miss it. Especially as I have a bad back - I often long for a good soak. Or if I’m really cold.

So I always have a bath when visiting my parents or at a hotel if it looks clean enough. I am wanting to redo my bathroom to have one put back in.

It wouldn’t put me off buying another house without a bath but I’d probably look to have the price reduced a bit so that I could budget to have the bathroom redone.

BG2015 · 18/09/2024 19:18

We're currently getting quotes to do exactly this.

Downsized and moved into our new house which will be the house we live in until we die.

We're having the bath replaced with a walk in shower. Keeping the toilet and sink as it is. Going to cost £2k just to swap it.

I wouldn’t view a house with no bath

I would view it but any offer would factor in the cost of replacing the shower with a bath, and I'm old but still love a long soak after gardening.

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/09/2024 19:18

Whilst I rarely take a bath, but shower, I would definitely be put off a house if it didn't have a bath option. But if you're not planning to sell your house any time soon then do whatever you want - your house, your rules.

Luckypinkduck · 18/09/2024 19:19

If it's a family house and you will be selling it then I would keep the bath.
I love a bath but it's also pretty essential with small children.
You can always put one back in but new bathroom is a pretty big job to have to do straight away so it would put me off unless I loved the house.

I wouldn’t view a house with no bath

This
I wouldn't even consider it nor a north facing garden
Just no

Penguinmouse · 18/09/2024 19:21

Don’t do it! When we bought our house the first thing we did was change the bathroom to put in a bath. It was annoying not having one for a few weeks.

TwistedWonder · 18/09/2024 19:22

It would definitely put me off. I dictate baths very often but I want the option when I do fancy a nice long hot soak.

No33 · 18/09/2024 19:22

I had a choice between two houses.

One made the school run MUCH easier. No bath.

I went for the bath and horrific school run.

BotterMon · 18/09/2024 19:22

Hate baths and have ripped both out and added far bigger showers. If people can't see beyond the end of their nose to reinstall a bath if that's what they really must have in a house then so be it.
I have a beautiful 1930's cast iron claw footed bath in one of the outbuildings and would include in any sale if people wanted it.

LouLou198 · 18/09/2024 19:23

Ripped ours out 14 years ago. No regrets. Bathroom is now much bigger. Dc were put in a baby bath in the shower tray. Then they just got used to having showers. No regrets at all.

Essential for me to have a bath. Use it most days no one else in my house does lol

I'd buy a house without as long as room to put in - immediately haha

Poofurburrball · 18/09/2024 19:26

We viewed a house last week that had two shower rooms and no bath. We didn't make an offer on it for other reasons but the lack of bath didn't help - a bath is very useful for all sorts of things not just bathing!

BIossomtoes · 18/09/2024 19:28

I wouldn’t even view a house without a bath and like a pp am hugely disappointed when a hotel bathroom hasn’t got one. I love a good soak.

bergamotorange · 18/09/2024 19:29

Yes I would always want a bath. They are so valuable if you get an injury or are ill, or have young children, or want to do some handwashing, or want to empty the dehumidifier, or need to dump a load of wet washing etc.

I would buy a house without a bath, so long as a) a bath could be fitted and b) the owner hadn't done something stupid to make it really expensive or difficult to fit a bath.

Daffyyellow · 18/09/2024 19:29

When my children were young I wouldn’t have been without a bath. Both DDs really enjoy the occasional bath and I also use it to wash the dogs! Wouldn’t buy a house without a bath or space to put one in.

coxesorangepippin · 18/09/2024 19:29

We're redoing our bathroom and are considering not installing a bath

Much cheaper

coxesorangepippin · 18/09/2024 19:29

Kids are older though
