If you would miss a bath in a house?

We are redoing our downstairs bathroom currently has a standing separate shower cubicle and a small _not full size adult bath. It's not a big bathroom, we have a shower room upstairs.

I was thinking of removing the bath and putting in a larger walk in shower. We don't use the bath and environmentally i think the shower is better but conscious if we sell the house it would put people off there being no bath.

We moved when my daughter was a toddler and the house we bought had a lovely big shower but no bath. My husband and I loved the shower and would have kept it but our two year old hated it. She would cry every time we showered her. We had a bath with a shower attached put in. She does tolerate showers these days aged 7 but still prefers a bath. I think I've maybe had a bath once since we got it. I always use the shower.

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath because it would mean I would have to redo the bathroom. Can't live without one.

MrsDoylesLastTeabag · 18/09/2024 19:32

I can spend 4 hours at a time in my bath so, yes, it would bother me if a house I was interested in didn't have one. (If there were room to put one in, I'd mind less.)

It's very subjective, though. Some people only shower, so won't care, whereas to me showers feel like being waterboarded and are the opposite of relaxing. (But then I have rheum. arthritic joints.)

I might occasionally, but I know there are people who wouldn’t.

I like a bath but as I am able to stand in one to shower I much prefer a bath with an attached shower to a bath and seperate shower as it always seems like a waste of space.

I get that with mobility needs standing in a bath is not always possible or sensible. But for me if the choice is small bath and seperate shower, a normal/big bath with a shower head, or just one or the other- I would always want the shower in the bath.

Plus there is usually the option to add a detachable shower head to a bath, but you cant really have a bath in the bottom of the shower, so a bath just seems more versatile

I like having a bath.

ArcticBells · 18/09/2024 19:34

I'd never buy a house without a bath

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/09/2024 19:36

I'd much rather buy a house with a lovely shower than a bath, especially if it's one of those free standing claw foot monstrosities. I don't get the attraction of wallowing in water, especially in a hotel room where other people have also been wallowing!

BestIsWest · 18/09/2024 19:36

Have only the room for a shower over the bath or a walk in shower. The bath is going. We need the house to work for us not some possible future family who might buy it one day.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/09/2024 19:36

Nope. Not at all. Not a bit. Shower girl ❤️ 🚿

lobsterkiller · 18/09/2024 19:36

I ripped the bath out and had a modern wetroom put in. It's a 1930s house and the bathroom is small, it was a better use of space and I'm also not really a bath person. The only time I missed a bath was the first time I had Covid. I just festered until I had the energy to stand under it. 😂

westatlanticocean · 18/09/2024 19:37

I’m not from the UK, but I’ve never seen or been in another country who are so obsessed with having a bath. 😂

picklepotage · 18/09/2024 19:38

I'm moving into a new house. I nor my teenagers use a bath so I'll be replacing the bath with a nice shower.

Not having a bath wouldn't be a deal breaker when comes to selling as its an easy issue to fix

Was a long time ago I stayed in a hotel that actually had a bath tub.

My idea of hell. 😅

I 100% would not consider buying a house without a bath AND a shower

GOODCAT · 18/09/2024 19:43

We bought a house with no bath and it will stay that way for so long as we have it!

it's because of the lack of swimming pools and a culture of people hating to put the heating on in winter

LittleBobbyDazzler · 18/09/2024 19:44

We moved into a house with no bath. Wasn't really a problem but did miss it when cold and ill. Now have a child and it's so fucking annoying we have this massive toddler bath we fill with the shower laying around in spare room, I'd kill for a bath again. Definitely getting one put in when we can afford it (likely never in this climate 😭).

Teajenny7 · 18/09/2024 19:46

I would want at least one bathroom with a bath (shower over) and another with a walk in showerdecent shower.

What does put me off is the lack of a bidet!

babyproblems · 18/09/2024 19:47

YES. It’s on my essential list. Bathrooms are so important imo - relaxing, unwinding..it’s a space dedicated only to personal time for oneself. To me, a walk in shower says you’ve not got any time to enjoy a deep self care ritual; or that you don’t need it because you’re not busy/stressed etc maybe you’re older & can’t manage it. Who is your potential buyer? If it’s anyone under the age of 50 with a decent budget I would say a bath is a strong message- from a stylist POV it tells your buyer that this house gives them a lifestyle which has space for them to relax. Time for themselves. Especially if you live in a busy area I think this is such a strong subconscious message to people.

Ok fair enough with the being cold. Never been anywhere else that have such cold houses either tbf. I’m in a very cold country but our houses are always warm.

This is exactly the sort of buyer I mean op!! It would seriously improve @LittleBobbyDazzler ‘s families lifestyle if they had one!

diddl · 18/09/2024 19:49

We have a reasonable size bathroom that had a bath & separate shower but we still took the bath out to have a walk in shower.

sunshineandshowers40 · 18/09/2024 19:51

We have a bath; could live without a bath now my DC are 11+ but wouldn't have bought a house without one when DC were small. Would love to have a huge walk-in shower now!
