To think The Range has made a stupid decision

CDS Superstores has announced a major change to The Range stores' entry requirements. Dog owners will no longer need to leave their pets outside or at home as stores across the UK are now completely dog-friendly.“

What’s the point of this other than to make shopping in The Range a miserable experience? Am I the only one who thinks it’s disgusting to have filthy dogs running around soft furnishings and fragile displays, potentially pissing on things? I assume people with dog allergies are just irrelevant then. Navigating the shop is already a nightmare when it’s busy, who wants dogs who have been rolling around in God knows what to be taking up the aisles? Think it’ll be online orders only from now on… Hmm

dogs do not pee willy nilly
they pee where other dogs have been
so not in the shopping centre for example
not in the shops

I have one child who suffers from dog related anxiety and currently vomits every time she sees a dog coming towards her. Looks like I'm going to have to crate her if I want to go out....🙄

You can tell the good and bad dog owners on this thread. The good ones train their dogs to stay at home. The bad entitled ones bring their dogs everywhere, including homeware shops.

The pandemic has seen a rise in misanthropic people who no longer have social skills. They can no longer cope with people and don’t know how to interact socially. They are the ones saying that they prefer dogs to humans and children. I hope the tide will turn again to a more normal phase of human development.

Yeah it really bugs me when people say they prefer their dog to people. It's usually because your dog still loves you even though you're an arsehole

dottiedodah · 17/09/2024 07:29

Recently saw a dog in M and S! Not food section ,but in a buggy. No one took issue with it.I adore all dogs and have one of my own as well.I dont think its a "Treat " for her to go shopping .or sit in the pub with the odd chip ,watching everyone else eating, and delicious aromas wafting by!The cinema in a nearby town is showing "Dog friendly" screenings, which means basically pooch is sitting at your feet squashed up asleep. If they could speak they would all say they would rather be out for walkies Im sure!

Yes. They never seem to question why they don’t get on with other human beings or reflect on their own shortcomings…

ClaudineMallory · 17/09/2024 07:32

So basically, some dogs are living a human life, going to the shops, going to restaurants, cinemas, pubs etc.

My son is afraid of dogs, so this does has an effect on me. I wouldn’t take him to a dog park or pets at home, but it’s getting hard to avoid the wee buggers now that every shop and cafe seems to welcome them. Just because you like something doesn’t mean everyone else has to, or that those who disagree with you are miserable.

Cuts both ways, just because some people have or like children, doesn’t mean the rest of us want to be subjected to them. Ok so bit of a over the top impractical statement there, but my problem isn’t with the idea of debating this suggestion, I actually don’t think the range is really a place that needs to allow dogs. My issue is the absolutely HORRIBLE responses these threads bring and are actually designed to bring. I can’t have kids, I’m 42, I love my dog and taking him to a dog friendly restaurant or garden centre is nice for me, I can’t help that some people are afraid of them, no more than you can help I can’t have my own family, but always have him under control. I don’t need to bring him to the range, in fact I don’t really take him to pubs or restaurants, but I won’t sit by and read this venomous SHIT, I know I can scroll on by, but sometimes you just can’t, Mumsnet brings out so many bellends! Live and let live!

Lemonadeand · 17/09/2024 07:32

I’m not a fan of dogs in shops (other than assistance dogs obviously) but lots of shops do this now. John Lewis does it. So there must be a demand for it.

I have no issue with dogs but I am genuinely wondering why on earth you’d want to take them to the range? Seems very silly to me - and I’m a dog owner + lover!

This. Poor things would be much happier at home. Don’t understand owners who take their dog on day trips to the beach:shopping, etc. on hot days at all.

Saw a couple with a hairy shitzu wandering around the shops in our seaside town recently was knocking 25 degrees and it was wearing a pink hoody. Poor thing’s tongue was hanging out, it was clearly distressed. Stupid people seemed oblivious.
This sort of irresponsible ownership will only get worse the more places open their doors to dogs.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 17/09/2024 07:36

It’s another escalation of the weird dog cult.

Gonna have to look into blowdarts & steel toecapped boots for the next time one of these twats bounds up to me and puts its claws on my chest.

thenightsaredrawingin · 17/09/2024 07:37

We went to a pub with attached restaurant. Sat down in the restaurant and noticed a horrible smell and there was a massive dog poo on the floor by the table. Really put us off our lunch and will not be going back there again.

Skipsurvey · 17/09/2024 07:38

our local shopping centre is now open to dogs
so i imagine if there was a Range in there that would encourage shoppers

i presume you pointed it out to owners/restaurant?

seems a bit unlikely tbh

Put you off your lunch? Why on earth did you stay?

Dogs can't go to the majority of places.

Dogs are welcome to attend many churches. They also get special pet blessings 🐶

Fuck me, is there anywhere dogs can’t go now? My town is overrun with them… dogs in the pub, dogs in the pharmacy, dogs in Fenwicks, I’m surprised people don’t take them to church…

There was one barking in Canterbury Cathedral when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

Skipsurvey · 17/09/2024 04:57

dogs dont piss on things in shops

Don’t they? I was in pets at home a couple of years ago. A couple came in with a rescue dog they’d just picked up, a large staffy. Didn’t think to take the dog for even a wee before going in. The dog pissed everywhere, mammoth amounts and in 3 different spots. Senseless idiots didn’t even think to take the dog to wee outside after the first massive puddle.

Skipsurvey · 17/09/2024 07:42

there were senseless idiots @Mummyoflittledragon

ABirdsEyeView · 17/09/2024 07:42

The range would be better off putting public loos in their shops if they want to increase customers/sales.

I don't actually mind dogs in shops, despite not being a dog owner. But I don't think sales assistants should have to clean up dog poo/wee if dog has an accident. So I think it's a bad policy. And people with allergies will just stop going, which kind of defeats the purpose since they are hoping to increase sales.

We do :-)

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/09/2024 07:43

I live in a small market town where most shops allow dogs in. If a shop is dog friendly then they put a dog water bowl outside. I take my dog into town with me, he loves it.

BarbedButterfly · 17/09/2024 07:44

I love dogs and do take him to places like pets at home and our local cafe that is always full of dogs. But I wouldn't take him to the range tbh. He would probably try and run off with a cushion as he is still in that crazy puppy stage.

maimeo · 17/09/2024 07:44

Amused to see this thread this morning..... arrived home late last night from a holiday in the UK, and spent part of the journey chatting about this. We were totally gob smacked by the insane number of dogs trotting in and out of shops, pubs and restaurants with their meek owners in tow on leads. Just couldn't believe my eyes. I realized after a while that the rooms we stayed in hotels and self catering houses had almost certainly had people using them who allowed dogs on the soft furnishings and beds. I like dogs but don't believe their rights trump my right as a human to enjoy my downtime with other humans only. Ridiculous trying to get by in busy tourist areas without tripping over entangled leads and yapping owners who think firm commands are a language they don't have to learn. I presume kennels have gone out of business with this new trend? Anyway, as a visitor to the UK, I wouldn't be in a rush to return unless I had to!

Goldengirl123 · 17/09/2024 07:44

I’ve never understood why people take their dogs shopping

Sugarysnacks · 17/09/2024 07:46

I saw a woman shopping in Tesco yesterday with a small dog in a baby sling 😳
