To think The Range has made a stupid decision

CDS Superstores has announced a major change to The Range stores' entry requirements. Dog owners will no longer need to leave their pets outside or at home as stores across the UK are now completely dog-friendly.“

What’s the point of this other than to make shopping in The Range a miserable experience? Am I the only one who thinks it’s disgusting to have filthy dogs running around soft furnishings and fragile displays, potentially pissing on things? I assume people with dog allergies are just irrelevant then. Navigating the shop is already a nightmare when it’s busy, who wants dogs who have been rolling around in God knows what to be taking up the aisles? Think it’ll be online orders only from now on… Hmm

Lockdown dogs were raised by inexperienced owners and given no practice of being alone. Subsequently people are stuck with needy, clingy dogs that have no ability to relax if they are beyond 6 feet away from their owners at all times.

Our dog is a lock down dog and we had never had a dog before. We still managed to train him to cope with being alone. It. was more difficult, but not impossible. Sadly some owners didn't bother.

YogaForDummies · 17/09/2024 07:06

Dogs absolutely hate shops lol. To them it's a scary experience of strange sounds, too many humans and what are probably quite awful smells of strong plastics/ chemicals from manufacturing.

ROLL UP, ROLL UP, STEP RIGHT THIS WAY FOR ANOTHER DOG HATING THREAD, COME BITCH ABOUT SOMETHING YOU MISERABLE BASTARDS THAT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT ON YOU!!!!

Just live and let live, if a dog in a shop is misbehaving maybe just tell a store assistant if they wouldn’t mind dealing with it, society is becoming so miserable, people want to ban everything they can that someone else might like, just stay in your own lanes and mind your own business!

My son is afraid of dogs, so this does has an effect on me. I wouldn’t take him to a dog park or pets at home, but it’s getting hard to avoid the wee buggers now that every shop and cafe seems to welcome them. Just because you like something doesn’t mean everyone else has to, or that those who disagree with you are miserable.

The amount of times I have found a dog poo on the floor in pets at home proves to me no other shops should allow dogs in

Went in pets at home last week and there was dog piss everywhere. One of the poor staff was out with a mop but every edge of the display shelves had puddles around them. Doesn't seem like the owners actually tell anyone, they just walk away and leave someone to slip in it. My 2yr old almost slipped in a couple of puddles and I couldn't wait to get out of there.

ACynicalDad · 17/09/2024 07:11

We’ve taken our dog around John Lewis. He is very well trained. I think it works as the typical JL customer has retrievers, Labradors, spaniels or doodles. I think you need to think of the breeds your target market are likely to own. Hence Weatherspoons saying no to dogs whilst many pubs are ok with them.

I'm a dog owner. I love my dog, I like going places with my dog, never in a million years would I go shopping with my dog. My dog doesn't give a shiny shite about home furnishings, she isn't going to derive enjoyment from shopping and she isn't going to enhance the shopping experience.

I don't understand this relatively recent trend of people taking their dogs fucking everywhere. Unless it an appropriate place for a dog to be just leave them at home like a normal bloody person.

(Obviously service dogs are excepted).

Edited

This! I’m a dog owner and just don’t understand people’s obsession with taking their dogs everywhere with them.

Areolaborealis · 17/09/2024 07:11

What ever happened to the standard of keeping paths clear of obstacles and trip hazards? Dogs, tails and leads are not a good idea in a narrow, crowded indoor space like a shop. Accident waiting to happen.

Libertysparkle · 17/09/2024 07:11

No thought to those who are scared of dogs. Turning a corner in shop to find massive dog. I'd worry for the service dogs who are fully trained but may get attacked by a roaming pooch.

Quite an odd decision.
The Range makes me desperate for the loo for some reason. I get in there and it's immediate! And they don't have one. Wouldn't want to risk it with my dog....

Haha that happens to me too! Luckily ours does have one.

also a dog owner and wouldn’t in a million years take them there!

Fuck me, is there anywhere dogs can’t go now? My town is overrun with them… dogs in the pub, dogs in the pharmacy, dogs in Fenwicks, I’m surprised people don’t take them to church…

They do locally to us. One of them has their own prayer cushion. 🤦‍♀️

Tiredalwaystired · 17/09/2024 07:13

Great. Another place that my autistic and extremely dog phobic nephew can’t go.

I hadn't heard this. Ddog is looking forward to a visit. Thanks op

Why?

Longsight2019 · 17/09/2024 07:14

I bet there has been tension in the staff rooms over this. Dog lovers playing it down. The rest imagining steaming piles of dog waste.

One point I thought of was, imagine there was a chemical spillage - weed killer, whatever. And pooch trots along and ends up injured or ill.

Its just all rather pointless isn’t it.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 17/09/2024 06:31

I'd try my best to not let my dog pee on someone else's property, but genuine question here. What did you expect them to do?

Dogs just squat when they're ready to pee, and short of carrying a pissing dog off that spot, there's not much to be done. You can't drag them by their collar if they don't want to stop weeing. If you have a solution, please share it to help dog walkers out.

Yes, you can drag them by their collar. You are the one in control.

Similar situation here.

So sick of dogs being allowed in places they weren’t allowed in before.

TheAlchemy · 17/09/2024 07:18

A shopping centre In Glasgow trialled being dog friendly but had to end the trial prematurely after a drop in footfall and the dogs shitting all over the place. The Range will soon discover the same and swiftly abandon this nonsense.

wastingtimeonhere · 17/09/2024 07:19

Have you ever bought clothing on the high St? The chances are that someone has tried it on, and that person may not be hygienic either.
Whilst I wouldn't really want to take my dog shopping ordinarily, on holiday it might be unavoidable.

The Range does sell dog accessories, so I can see why they want dog owners' money.
Unfortunately, it is badly trained dogs with badly trained owners that give everyone a bad name.
That said, I was put off buying bedding when I saw a small child picking its nose and wiping it on bedding.
Is there a correlation between bad parents and dog owners? I see them as being cut from the same cloth.

hurlyburlywhirly · 17/09/2024 07:19

I'm not too bothered by this - I was more bothered in a fairly expensive clothes store recently where a massive dog suddenly appeared from within the jumper rail where it had just been wandering about.

Lovely dog, but how have we got to a point where that's ok? They were charging north of £150 for some of that knitwear. I don't want hair or slobber on it.

PoachesPeaches · 17/09/2024 07:20

How odd. Is this a major issue?

needhelpwiththisplease · 17/09/2024 07:20

I always assume that people who take their dog shopping, can't leave it at home because it's untrained.
No other need for it to be in shops.
You are not asking Fido his opinion on some cushions in The Range

MayThink · 17/09/2024 07:21

You can tell the good and bad dog owners on this thread. The good ones train their dogs to stay at home. The bad entitled ones bring their dogs everywhere, including homeware shops.

The pandemic has seen a rise in misanthropic people who no longer have social skills. They can no longer cope with people and don’t know how to interact socially. They are the ones saying that they prefer dogs to humans and children. I hope the tide will turn again to a more normal phase of human development.

Well exactly, and this is great example of why dogs are better suited to outdoor places, not shops. Arguably, its cruel to tether them and drag them around The Range because it suits the owner rather than letting them run free in a field.
