Did you know who Cat Deeley was before she joined This Morning?

When Cat Deeley became presenter of This Morning earlier this year I had not heard of her before, some of my friends are surprised that I did not know who she was. (We are all in our 40's by the way) I knew who Holly Willoughby was though.

Am I weird in never having heard of her before?

SMTV was one of the few shows where it was commissioned for children but a lot of the content was just as funny for young (usually hungover) adults.

Even if you didn’t watch it I think it would be hard to believe that anyone over the age of about 10 in the late 90s didn’t know who she was. She was a huge star and not just known for SMTV

That fake Peter Kay version of X Factor where she swore at the audience was great because she had just made it big in the US at that time and it had to be explained that it was a spoof and not the real thing

xsquared · 16/09/2024 20:03

Yes, of course. She was everywhere in the late 90s and comprehended SM TV with Ant and Dec on Saturday morning.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/09/2024 20:03

Was she Kitten Natividad?

Skipsurvey · 16/09/2024 20:03

patrick kielty of course

BookHimDanno · 16/09/2024 20:03

Biiiiirmmmmiiinnnghaaaaaaaaaaaam 😂

jazzyBBBB · 16/09/2024 20:05

Of course! She was a Pantene girl as well and possibly L'Oreal.

nOasistickets · 16/09/2024 20:05

Not me - but I’m not from here originally, lived here 20 years.

StMarieforme · 16/09/2024 20:07

I don't watch daytime TV but I know who Cat Deeley is. Very successful career in her own right and married to Patrick Kielty.

What an awful way to describe anyone. Good grief. He's a highly intelligent, funny man. Unbelievable.

Skipsurvey · 16/09/2024 20:09

i didnt watch ant and dec and dont watch day time tv but for some reason i heard of her,

clarkkentsglasses · 16/09/2024 20:09

Ant and Dec!

Anothernamechane · 16/09/2024 20:20

Shocked to hear Patrick Kielty described as ugly. Not your standard chiselled jaw type maybe but I always thought he was a good looking fella. Their love story is actually very sweet as they were friends for many years, having worked together on Fame Academy but were both never single at the same time. They both found themselves single and he flew across to America and surprised her for her 30th birthday and they were married 9 months later.

I watched the documentary he made about his father being murdered by the UVF. The IRA offered him and his brother the chance to join up afterwards but they refused and chose to be engaged in the peace process. He considered Mo Molam a good friend and campaigned for the Good Friday Agreement even though it meant his father’s murderers being released.

scrivette · 16/09/2024 20:20

She was so good with Ant and Dec - SMTV always made me laugh. I had forgotten about Chums - really funny!

Fastback · 16/09/2024 20:22

C.H.U.M.S.

expiredplants · 16/09/2024 20:23

I knew the name but couldn’t have put a face to it or told you what she did.

Notamum12345577 · 16/09/2024 20:24

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 16/09/2024 17:31

Of course! She was on SMTV with Ant and Dec!

Don’t forget CDUK 😁

Mabs49 · 16/09/2024 20:24

Not really I'm British lived here my whole life, can't tell you anything about her - would possibly recognise her face but that's about it. Does something in media.

I haven't watched much telly for the last 25 years though so that probably explains it.

Mabs49 · 16/09/2024 20:25

OK, no just looked her up. Wouldn't know her name or her face.

Hoardasauruskaren · 16/09/2024 20:27

She was popular in the 90s then went to the US for a long time to persuade a career over there! She was on kids tv with Ant & Dec among other things.

Patrick Kielty made an extraordinarily moving documentary about the murder of his father in The Troubles. He's not a great comedian but he is a good man and an excellent presenter.

It was very moving.

And he's definitely not ugly.

Loved Cat Deeley on SMTV. Hasn't she been presenting a US talent show?

Backtoblack1 · 16/09/2024 20:28

I'm 48 and have always been aware of her

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 16/09/2024 20:28

She's been around for years

Namechanger385u4p · 16/09/2024 20:28

Absolutely! Smtv/cduk = essential tv back in the 00s

Hoardasauruskaren · 16/09/2024 20:30

Tiswa · 16/09/2024 17:44

Wasn’t SMTV live classic hangover Saturday morning TV though was for me at Uni in the late 1990’s

I was in my mid 20s and loved a Saturday morning in bed watching this!

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 16/09/2024 20:31
  1. SMTV, CDUK and Fame Academy. Standard Saturday morning viewing.

She was HUGELY successful in US too. It was quite a big thing that she "made it" over there too
