Did you know who Cat Deeley was before she joined This Morning?

When Cat Deeley became presenter of This Morning earlier this year I had not heard of her before, some of my friends are surprised that I did not know who she was. (We are all in our 40's by the way) I knew who Holly Willoughby was though.

Am I weird in never having heard of her before?

Did you work on Saturdays while the rest of us watched SMTV while nursing a hangover?

Gowlett · 16/09/2024 18:49

I remember her from her younger years.
Then she had a TV career in the USA.

Now, of course I know her, but don’t watch This Morning.
Her husband. Patrick, has the biggest show on Irish TV.

What a nasty little comment about Patrick Kielty. I'm sure he thinks very highly of you.

StolenChanel · 16/09/2024 18:52

SMTV Live was my childhood!

What an unnecessarily nasty comment Confused

PottedPlantCrazy · 16/09/2024 18:56

I think she used to go on about a wonky donkey?

LardoBurrows · 16/09/2024 18:56

I'm fairly old and I knew who she was, but she had been in USA for work for a good while.

How dare someone call Patrick Kielty an ugly Irish man, what a cuntish thing
to say.

76evie · 16/09/2024 18:57

Of course - Cat The Dog from Birmingham!

Everyone saying "what you're 40s and didn't watch smtv" were all watching it when they got home from raves right?

You were 20 something watching kids TV so there'd better be some excuse Grin

Yes, we were hungover! It was blatantly aimed at us, do you remember the one where they got a big chocolate jelly in the shape of a starfish and made the guests get the ring out of the chocolate starfish 😂😂😂 I think it was Busted? Cat couldn't keep a straight face. It was genius.

Are you Irish? If be very surprised if many English people know her primarily because of who her husband is

Patrick Kielty is not ugly at all, and he’s one of the funniest comedians on TV. He comes across as a lovely husband and family man.

Well he's doing just fine for himself in Ireland. Plus he lived in the US for years.

He does a Sat am radio show on BBC radio 5 quite peak time so not entirely disappeared

Ttcagainnow · 16/09/2024 19:06

I think she's pretty well known and would be shocked at someone in the UK not knowing who she is!

An ugly Irishman? A comedian (saw him do something about the Irish having to read manuals about how to make bombs, and 'Seamus, the manuals are all in Polish!' ) and a wit, and a man who answers back. Saw him answer back someone on a singing competition in the Noughties. Ugly maybe, but sexy AF!

She'll always be Cat the Dog to me!

same 😁 She was a good sport!

BertieBotts · 16/09/2024 19:23

YABU I never know any famous people and I know who she is. Am 36 Grin

That said. I had totally forgotten where from, except some vague notion of her being a children's presenter, until I read other people's replies. But yes I used to watch her with Ant and Dec on SM:TV Live.

MovingTooFast121 · 16/09/2024 19:25

Chums! Wonky Donkey! Please Mr Postman!

so…er… yes.

newfriend05 · 16/09/2024 19:26

Yes from fame academy!

BarbaraHoward · 16/09/2024 19:27

Piggywaspushed · 16/09/2024 18:17

I don't think that's fair. She was genuinely funny on SMTV.

Yeah agree. I've never even regularly watched anything she's on and I know she's very good. I haven't seen her on This Morning but I would've thought she'd be very good on it.

His job is massive too, they've always been successful but for them both to have gotten such big boosts in quick succession must've been quite the adjustment.

fancyfrogs · 16/09/2024 19:27

Yes I think most people would know. You're definitely the minority

Anoisagusaris · 16/09/2024 19:31

Mikunia · 16/09/2024 18:43

It started in 1998, I was 23 then but used to watch it! I guess it was just something to have on, like people put the radio on?

Yes we didn’t have smart phones back so you’d up watching all sorts on TV when bored or hungover!
