Disgusting sentence. The court system is screwed honestly.

TheGreatIndoors · 16/09/2024 13:04

Disappointing sentence but not surprising.

He has a perverted interest in children. So he should be locked away forever imho. I don't care HOW overcrowded the beast wing of the jails get.

spiceybutter · 16/09/2024 13:04

viques · 16/09/2024 11:00

Whatever his sentence we all know that he will get a book out of it, followed by a series of tv interviews, a tv special, then when he has done enough public weeping, self flagellation and kneeling on sharp stones saying how he has changed he will be lined up for a slot in I’m a Celebrity GMOOH, Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Mastermind, Celebrity Bake Off, Celebrity Masterchef etc

A whole new career awaits. The media loves redemption.

He won’t. Nobody will touch a sex offender. His public life is over and he will be on the sex offenders register.

So another paedophile walks free.

Fantastic.

Even in cases like this, men STILL can't own their behaviour, there's always a fucking excuse

Heartbreaking 🥲

HermioneWeasley · 16/09/2024 13:05

real children were harmed to make these videos so he and his monstrous friends could get off on watching them.

they should have the death penalty for this never mind a 6 month suspended sentence.

alpacachino · 16/09/2024 13:05

What an absolute joke of a sentence. Those poor victims.

LostTheMarble · 16/09/2024 13:05

BIossomtoes · 16/09/2024 13:01

He’s not. The sentence is in line with the supplier of the images’ sentence. Anything harsher would have been special treatment.

Actually it is ‘special treatment’:

’The appropriate sentence would be 12 months for the most severe abuse images. However, taking into account the mitigation and early guilty plea, the sentence would be six months suspended for two years.’

From the BBC reporting. So by admitting to it then be-crying mental health, he’s swerved what was the guidelines for the more serious crimes he committed.

nextdoornightmares · 16/09/2024 13:07

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

A former neighbour was sentenced to 10 months in prison and served 5. He had almost 10,000 images and almost 1,000 videos in Category A which were of children ranging from infants to 15 years old. He was allowed to come back and live next to families of young children, he had cameras filming the street outside our houses and God knows what else. But we had the police at the door telling us we couldn't post a photo of him on our community social media page to warn people because he had complained. Total joke.

So yeah, the fact this disgusting news reader guy "only" had a few images always told me he was going to get a light sentence.

Yep.

The fact that this is totally standard is the problem. If this was a case of a famous person getting special treatment, it would be less depressing.

It was the guilty plea that mitigated the sentence and he’s not getting special treatment, anyone making a guilty plea would have been treated the same.

Who will pay for all the new prisons?

Let’s top all paedos, then we won’t need more prisons? 🤷‍♀️

Boomer55 · 16/09/2024 13:08

He’s also got to attend a sex offenders course. It should have been a custodial sentence - one of the victims was only 7 years old. ☹️

If you want it to be

Anjo2011 · 16/09/2024 13:09

Used his money from the BBC that he shouldn’t have been given to pay for a top lawyer. What a disgrace. Knew every string to pull to reduce the chances of a custodial sentence and it worked. There is no deterrent in that sentencing whatsoever.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/09/2024 13:10

ToniFire · 16/09/2024 12:55

Poor mental health.
Suicidal
Puritanical father
Elderly mother.

How many more excuses?!

Is there anything that can’t be blamed on ‘mental health’?

footgoldcycle · 16/09/2024 13:10

You have to wonder if more will come to light!
He may yet serve time

19lottie82 · 16/09/2024 13:11

The law should concentrate on keeping these predators off the streets rather than threatening people who watch an illegal football stream online.

this country is a joke. In the USA he would have got 10-25 years.

HermioneWeasley · 16/09/2024 13:11

i hope he lives in fear. I hope he gets beaten to a pulp by vigilantes. I hope he experiences an ounce of the fear and pain his victims did and I hope he thinks of them while someone stronger than him is abusing him.

Jacopo · 16/09/2024 13:12

Completely off the point but I’m becoming increasingly irritated at the use of “mental health” as an excuse. Surely it should be “mental illness” or “poor mental health”.

But yes, it’s ridiculous that people are getting away with these crimes using this excuse.

Thelnebriati · 16/09/2024 13:12

Disgusting. Children are raped, perverts film the rape and share the video with other perverts.
Judges act like no one was harmed.

LostTheMarble · 16/09/2024 13:13

Edited

He had access to top lawyers and is a remarkably astute and intelligent person. Your average Joe paedo wouldn’t have the same ability to know or be advised exactly how to face a judge in these circumstances. Let’s not pretend that special treatment doesn’t just come from the judge you stand before, there is a whole build up to come to a conclusion. If any common person had the balls to stand up in court and say ‘yes I had indecent pictures of a young child on my phone, but I don’t remember asking for them or colluding in buying more underage photos because of my poor mental health’, the judge would have thrown the book at them.

Oh do stop it. These posts are completely over the top. He’s pleaded guilty and been sentenced in line with sentencing guidelines.

No, the magistrate has given him enough get out of jail free cards to use in the future, as well as the big one he can use today.

mental health
pleaded guilty
suicide risk
cant remember images
did not store
did not distribute
remorse
loving family man
complicated family life/ relationships
relationship with father
low risk of re offending

Like I said, coming to a bookshop near you, not this year, but next year.

If he'd used a legal aid defence barrister on less than minimum wage he still wouldn't have gone to prison. Tiny amounts of tax payers' money or large amounts of licence payers money, it will have made very little difference.
