Will Huw get a worse/lighter sentencing today because of his fame?

YABU ... Worse sentence
YANBU ... Lighter setence

I voted YABU but not according to the criteria you set out. @JoyousPinkPeer

i agree though there is a debate here.

The problem with the UK is that we love inquiries and public shaming, rather than dealing with things as they happen or according to the facts.

I think H.E will be used as the example to “make up” for the institutional failings with Savile and others.

whether this is commensurate with what he did and what he received, isn’t going to be the issue. It’s going to be all about closure from the narrative of Savile and the institutionally rotten public organisations.

The UK worries me in this regard. Lots of baying and shaming, but little in the way of actual reform.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/09/2024 08:43

I hope he gets the maximum sentence. People who look at pictures of innocent children being abused are sick and should be punished. Imagine if that was your child.

MinnieMountain · 16/09/2024 08:45

The judge will follow the sentencing guidelines.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2024 08:48

Neither, he should get the same sentence as anyone else would for the same crime.

But as the punishments for CSA crimes often seem far to lenient, i don't think I've ever seen a case reported and thought they should get a lighter sentence, usually the reverse.

Havanawinter · 16/09/2024 08:51

He won’t go to jail. It’ll be a suspended sentence or community order.

nicknot · 16/09/2024 08:51

MinnieMountain · 16/09/2024 08:45

The judge will follow the sentencing guidelines.

This.

AutumnLeaves1990 · 16/09/2024 08:53

Hope he gets maximum sentence and doesn't play the "Woe is me" sympathy card again 😡

MouseofCommons · 16/09/2024 08:54

I'm not an expert but as far as I know the judge has to follow the law in this. They can't hand out sentences willy nilly.

crumblingschools · 16/09/2024 08:55

I don’t think the person who supplied the images got a very harsh sentence.

Deliiciousllydifffident · 16/09/2024 08:58

Anyone found to have anything to do with child abuse should rot in hell. <misses point of thread>

armadillio · 16/09/2024 08:59

Is there a chance he’ll get a custodial sentence? And not a suspended one?

OrwellianTimes · 16/09/2024 08:59

I’d damn well hope he gets an appropriate sentence, not overly harsh or light.

Most likely he won’t do jail time though, because what jails have space?

Agree

TickingAlongNicely · 16/09/2024 09:01

If his fame contributed to his offences, then it should be taken into account
If it is irrelevant, than it shouldn't.

That's my general opinion, not my feelings on this particular crime.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/09/2024 09:02

Didn't the other pedo who sent the images only get a suspended sentence. So I assume they may do the same as otherwise it looks unfair.

“Alex Williams, 25 - was handed a 12-month suspended sentence earlier this year.” Sky news

Absolutely dire, that man should be rotting in jail.

Flashcardsagain · 16/09/2024 09:07

He'll get a suspended sentence, not pay back any money and go off to some other country that satisfies his need for abusing children.

Sinisterdexter · 16/09/2024 09:10

I think he’ll get a suspended sentence.
His wages from the BBC will have paid for the best barrister who I’m sure has mitigated HE’s offences.
He couldn’t help it mi’lord, his mental health made him look at indecent images.

It’s an insult to all the law abiding citizens who struggle daily with their mh.

ClairDeLaLune · 16/09/2024 09:30

I hope they throw away the key and he gets beaten up daily in jail. Category A involving 7-9 year olds. Hope he rots in hell.

crumblingschools · 16/09/2024 09:31

@ClairDeLaLune but the person supplying the images didn’t get custodial sentence (not sure why)

timenowplease · 16/09/2024 09:32

Maybe, but his 'mental health' will come into play too.

Agree with you about loads of inquiries but little reform.

As for sentencing, that's for the judge.

Arafon · 16/09/2024 09:35

Often suspended sentences for these offences. That's what the person that sent the pictures got

ATuinTheGreat · 16/09/2024 09:36

I hope he does get a custodial sentence, but, as others have said, I can’t see it happening due to the seemingly very lenient suspended sentence the person who sent the images was given. I can’t see how it’s possible he could get a more harsh sentence than the supplier.

PandoraSox · 16/09/2024 09:37

I don't think he should be used a scapegoat for Savile and I doubt a judge is going to do that.

I expect he will get a suspended sentence if that is what the supplier of the images received?
