Husband kicking off over bath

Seriouslyhowcouldyounot · 15/09/2024 18:37

So my husband loves a bath. Loves it!!! But we have one toilet in our house. For a while now I’ve said the second you’re ready to get in let me go to the loo so as to give him the longest time in there before I’m busting again.

tonight it’s all kicked off as I said can you not lock the door as I might be busting. Firstly to fully disclose we’ve been drinking so it goes through me like water, secondly I have a suspected water infection so when I need to go I NEED TO GO. He went nuts saying what’s changed in the 15 years and I should be able to wait 25 mins. Yes maybe I should, maybe I can wait an hour or even two but what if I need to go!!! I said I wouldn’t just burst in I would knock but no apparently I lock the door when I shower FOR 10 minutes so he should be able to bathe for 25. I get he likes a bath but ffs should I have to beg for the right to access to the loo. Am I nuts???

And she has it. There are 24 hours in a day, he wants the bathroom uninterrupted for 25 minutes.

I’m getting it from the I NEED TO GO in addition to the aside that he’s not allowed access while OP is showering.

You're projecting.

I see no reason not to believe the OP is telling the truth. She has a UTI. That makes you need to wee.

The DH is not asking for access while she showers so that's irrelevant.

Cherrysoup · 15/09/2024 20:27

Whilst we don’t lock the door, we both close it and expect the other to stay out while we’re in the bath/shower. We’re allowed alone time!

Crystallizedring · 15/09/2024 20:28

Has noone had a UTI, they are bloody painful and you can't wait 25 minutes. Nor should you. When I had one GP told me to go ASAP to the toilet, even if it was a every 10 minutes.
Your DH is a dick for not understanding
You have a water infection, it's not going to last forever.
I'd have zero issues with my DH having a wee while I'm in the shower or bath and vice versa. Not a poo though.
Luckily we can unlock our bathroom door from the outside so no need to get out of the shower. We don't usually bother to lock the door though.

lizzyBennet08 · 15/09/2024 20:28

Honestly ffs . If I couldn't have the bathroom to myself for 30 minutes I'd be allergic and no it's not ok to someone to just pop in and do a wee beside me!
Honestly you need to see someone if you can't hold it for 30 minutes.

Mil3nnial · 15/09/2024 20:29

I don't mind DH coming in while I'm in the bath but I think it is a bit ridiculous if you can't wait 25 mins

It's okay for you to lock the door for 10 mins but not okay for him to lock it for 25 just because that's what works for you.

I know. Bizarre, isn’t it?

We both lock the doors! Hate seeing myself naked in the bath or shower, I don’t want him to! Also I def don’t use the loo in front of him

You're married and you both lock the door when you have a bath or shower?

We do this too. I think it’s nice to keep a bit of mystery rather than peeing in front of each other.

Why doesn’t it make sense?

I just automatically lock the door when I go into any bathroom, at home or otherwise.
I don’t need my DH to walk in on me doing a shit or shaving my bits standing up with a leg up.

and you are rude.

she has plenty of time to do what she needs to do. She just seems unhappy at being told the bathroom is in use by her husband for a relatively short period and is asserting a hypothetical need to use the toilet in that time to ensure husband doesn’t get a say.

TheDefiant · 15/09/2024 20:33

We're a one toilet house.

We all know that showering or bathing is private time and interruptions to be kept to a minimum.

I knew that wouldn't be practical though so designed the bathroom with some extra privacy in mind.

Our shower curtains are dark. If someone really needs to use the loo then we pull the shower curtain across the length of the bath to give both people as much "privacy" as possibly.

Could you do something similar OP?

We do this too. I think it’s nice to keep a bit of mystery rather than peeing in front of each other.

After watching me give birth to two babies, there are no more mysteries for my partner 😂 we never shut the bathroom door and often have conversations while someone’s peeing. I do draw the line at jobbies though!

Yes, 30 years together and we don't interrupt each other's bathing time.
I also have a serious bowel disorder and when I need to go then I need to go. DH moans at the time but knows it's non-negotiable and I wouldn't ask if I didn't have to.

Ladyof2024 · 15/09/2024 20:35

Pee into something. You can buy portable urinal bottles with female attachments or just use a beaker or jug.

Erm.. It’s a joke. Have a sense of humour please 🤣👀🙄

Err... it wasn't funny. 😂🙄

Not the point of the thread but doesn't your bedroom get very damp with shower steam?

No, we have an extractor and windows in bedroom and en suite always open, even in winter.

Try living with an a UTI or active bowel condition. 25 minutes, at times I can't wait for 25 seconds

CatchingBabies · 15/09/2024 20:36

Surely a grown adult can hold it for 30 mins!

I wouldn’t want someone in and out the bathroom when I’m having a relaxing bath.

allmyliesaretrue · 15/09/2024 20:38

Gwenhwyfar · 15/09/2024 20:20

You only need to go back about 50 years and many people were using chamber pots because they had outside toilets. Not the end of the world and much better than the suggestions of a cup or the garden. I pity some people's neighbours.

Thing is, we aren't back 50 years ago!

Some can, some can’t. Many women suffer urge incontinence post childbirth and can barely wait three minutes, let alone 30.

Thudercatsrule · 15/09/2024 20:40

Blimey - we do things very differently in my house!

allmyliesaretrue · 15/09/2024 20:40

Terracata · 15/09/2024 20:26

Do you never leave your house for more than 25 minutes? Or do you just wet yourself?

I can kindof see where he's coming from to be honest.

SHE DOESN'T NEED TO GO EVERY 25 MINUTES!!

mydogisthebest · 15/09/2024 20:40

We don't even have a lock on our bathroom door. Just don't see why you would lock it

ClockwiseHoneysuckle · 15/09/2024 20:42

Talk seriously about investing in a separate loo.

Pookerrod · 15/09/2024 20:42

Pibrea · 15/09/2024 19:44

I can’t believe how many married people are locking the door when they bathe/shower.

Not unreasonable of you at all but mainly just weird you both lock yourself in there!

I have to lock the door otherwise I have a constant stream of people coming in and out. To use the loo, brush their teeth, or worst of all, to ask me an inane question that really could have waited. And I have more than 1 bathroom.

I love my family dearly but it does feel at times that I’m always wanted for something or being talked at. I want a half hour bath or shower with just silence sometimes.
