Husband kicking off over bath

Seriouslyhowcouldyounot · 15/09/2024 18:37

So my husband loves a bath. Loves it!!! But we have one toilet in our house. For a while now I’ve said the second you’re ready to get in let me go to the loo so as to give him the longest time in there before I’m busting again.

tonight it’s all kicked off as I said can you not lock the door as I might be busting. Firstly to fully disclose we’ve been drinking so it goes through me like water, secondly I have a suspected water infection so when I need to go I NEED TO GO. He went nuts saying what’s changed in the 15 years and I should be able to wait 25 mins. Yes maybe I should, maybe I can wait an hour or even two but what if I need to go!!! I said I wouldn’t just burst in I would knock but no apparently I lock the door when I shower FOR 10 minutes so he should be able to bathe for 25. I get he likes a bath but ffs should I have to beg for the right to access to the loo. Am I nuts???

What in MN madness is this?? Why are you locking doors? Why is he so angry about this? If you’ve only got 1 bathroom there are obviously going to be times when you both need to be in there. Do you brush your teeth separately?

I think she shouldn't have to do any such undignified thing!!

Would you seriously use a potty?!!

Edited

Erm.. It’s a joke. Have a sense of humour please 🤣👀🙄

only in the bath for 25 minutes - that's not a long bath.

I was going to say whats the point in a 25 minute bath!!?

ohyesido · 15/09/2024 20:12

llamalines · 15/09/2024 20:00

WTF are you on about?

Should she just wet herself instead of bothering him? Or pee in a cup as some of the "helpful" posters have suggested?

Jesus wept.

Needing the toilet urgently because of a UTI or peri menopause is a medical need.

Having a bath for 25 minutes uninterrupted is not.

If the DH doesn't like it, he can make sure he lets the OP have a wee first, as she's suggested.

No, she should not wee in a cup or wet herself. If she’s that desperate she should use the loo while he’s in the bath. Jesus wept indeed, drawing such ridiculous inferences.

I feel like this is not so much about access as it is about control and a subconscious need to argue when husband wants the bathroom for 25 minutes.

Completelyjo · 15/09/2024 20:12

llamalines · 15/09/2024 20:09

If she's desperate then yes she should, of course!

But it’s not about that, it’s demanding to remove his privacy “just incase” while OP locks the bathroom while she uses it. **

llamalines · 15/09/2024 20:13

ThisBlueCrab · 15/09/2024 20:09

He does, he objects when she needs to go again 5 mins later

If she needs to go, then she needs to go!

I mean, yes it's less than ideal, but to solve it, the DH should be enquiring after her health, encouraging her to see a doctor if she needs to, or working out how to get a second toilet in the house, or some other solution based on empathy and caring for her needs, not prioritising his fucking bath and treating her as if she's doing it deliberately.

Where are you getting that from?

The OP has urge incontinence (hopefully temporarily) and wants access to a toilet in her own home.

That's pretty reasonable IMO.

SantoriniSunrise · 15/09/2024 20:15

Just pee in something, I often cut the top off a mineral water bottle and use that.

lazyarse123 · 15/09/2024 20:16

Good job most of you don't live with me. If adult son is in the shower and I get desperate we have a system. I knock then open door and wave my hand about. He has a laughing fit and covers his bits. I have a wee all good.
He carries on laughing when I tell him I can see his arse.
He has exceptionally long showers because he's a mechanic.
I honestly cannot imagine peeing in a container when there's a perfectly good toilet. He can carry on his bath when ops finished.

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/09/2024 20:17

I would suggest that you bring up the suggested treatment for UTI's on the NHS website and show him.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/urinary-tract-infections-utis/

Particularly noting "Do not hold in pee if you feel the urge to go"

Selfish arse has clearly never had cysitis.

If marriage is letting someone walk into the bathroom to use the toilet while I'm having a bath... No, thanks. You can keep it.

There's also the option of coming out of the bath for 5 minutes and then going back in. Yes, it's a bit cold and inconvenient, but a big towel around you and it's not the end of the world.

Apolloneuro · 15/09/2024 20:18

Seriouslyhowcouldyounot · 15/09/2024 19:13

Oh and perimenopause is no joke. I can do several hours between pees or seemingly every 20 minutes 🤷‍♀️

I’m not being at all sarcastic, but you probably need to go to the doctor. If you go that frequently your bladder will lose the ability to fill and you run the risk of getting an overactive bladder and urge incontinence.

SD1978 · 15/09/2024 20:19

If he uses the bath less than half an hour, I'd be pissed off if someone insisted they couldn't hold it for that length of time and insisted on having the option to interrupt me and pee whilst I'm in the bath.

And she has it. There are 24 hours in a day, he wants the bathroom uninterrupted for 25 minutes.

I’m getting it from the I NEED TO GO in addition to the aside that he’s not allowed access while OP is showering.

Honestly who the fuck are you people??

It is not normal or sanitary to be pissing in cups or water bottles in your own home.

You only need to go back about 50 years and many people were using chamber pots because they had outside toilets. Not the end of the world and much better than the suggestions of a cup or the garden. I pity some people's neighbours.

Find a man who can give you a 2nd bathroom.

This has made me laugh so much, thank you!! 😄

OnYourTogs · 15/09/2024 18:56

Better to pee in a bucket than just nip in and have a pee in the toilet while your husband is in the bath? I feel like I've wandered into an alternate universe

Ha! Me too. The one and only time this happened to me (he was an automatic bathroom-door locker. I'm not, and neither of is overly modest) I used a bucket. This ia a hell of a lot easier if you're endowed with a penis, which I'm not - so I simply removed the lock. 10 years on I don't think he's even noticed. Best not to ask.

FrostFlowers2025 · 15/09/2024 20:22

I have a weak bladder, always have, and if someone blocks me from the bathroom for close to half an hour on a regular basis that is not someone I would keep in my life. My bladder physically hurts if I wait too long. It would also make my stresslevels go through any time I would hear the water running for the bath.

Also, that a lot of water wasted every time.

Nanny0gg · 15/09/2024 20:22

Follyfooty · 15/09/2024 18:47

I would do time for anyone who interrupted my bath and I certainly take longer than 25 mins. If someone came in to use the bathroom WHEN I was in the bath… then we would have real problems.

Then let them go in first

ErrolTheDragon · 15/09/2024 20:23

Not immediately helpful to the OP, but if you've only got one loo in a house it should be in a separate room not the bathroom. That's how older houses were designed, thank goodness - I grew up in one with 2 brothers.

Both the OP and her DH have a need, I'd say hers is greater. Perhaps she should get a nice china potty for emergency wees.

How do you know it’s a lot of wasted water when you don’t know how often he has a bath?

MumonabikeE5 · 15/09/2024 20:26

You should see a Doctor if you routinely can’t wait 25mins for the loo.
i think you use your need to go to the loo to ruin your husband’s bath.
and that’s pretty mean

Terracata · 15/09/2024 20:26

Do you never leave your house for more than 25 minutes? Or do you just wet yourself?

I can kindof see where he's coming from to be honest.
