Husband kicking off over bath

Seriouslyhowcouldyounot · 15/09/2024 18:37

So my husband loves a bath. Loves it!!! But we have one toilet in our house. For a while now I’ve said the second you’re ready to get in let me go to the loo so as to give him the longest time in there before I’m busting again.

tonight it’s all kicked off as I said can you not lock the door as I might be busting. Firstly to fully disclose we’ve been drinking so it goes through me like water, secondly I have a suspected water infection so when I need to go I NEED TO GO. He went nuts saying what’s changed in the 15 years and I should be able to wait 25 mins. Yes maybe I should, maybe I can wait an hour or even two but what if I need to go!!! I said I wouldn’t just burst in I would knock but no apparently I lock the door when I shower FOR 10 minutes so he should be able to bathe for 25. I get he likes a bath but ffs should I have to beg for the right to access to the loo. Am I nuts???

What’s he actually doing in there? 😕

If he's owt like me, probably having a really long wank. Is that what you wanted everyone to think about although you didn't dare to say it?

HowcanIhelp123 · 15/09/2024 19:56

Make him a big breakfast to apologise. All the coffee and fruit juice. Give it 20 then maybe you should take a leaf out of his book and go lock yourself in the bathroom for a good 30 min bath.

RosannaSpider · 15/09/2024 19:57

Doesn't matter if you have an infection or whatever he is selfish and cannot hog the bathroom I had an ex like this making me late because he wanted to stay shitting for 40min in the morning

XMissPlacedX · 15/09/2024 19:57

I have an overactive bladder OP, and so completely understand what it's like to be bursting for a wee all of a sudden. Those who have not ever had to worry about that are lucky. luckily we have 2 bathrooms in the house, but if we didn't dh would not stop me having access to the toilet.

That's not even close to being the same thing

Have some matches in the bathroom, burn a little bit of paper then throw it down the loo, that kills the smell 100%, I do it whenever someone needs to use the bathroom right after and does the trick.

If I did that after dh had been, the whole bathroom would go up in smoke! 😱

llamalines · 15/09/2024 20:00

ohyesido · 15/09/2024 19:28

YABU let the man bath in peace, this comes across as him setting a boundary and you wanting to disregard it with your insistence that you have to go RIGHT NOW within the 25 minutes of the day when he wants the bathroom to himself.

WTF are you on about?

Should she just wet herself instead of bothering him? Or pee in a cup as some of the "helpful" posters have suggested?

Jesus wept.

Needing the toilet urgently because of a UTI or peri menopause is a medical need.

Having a bath for 25 minutes uninterrupted is not.

If the DH doesn't like it, he can make sure he lets the OP have a wee first, as she's suggested.

justasking111 · 15/09/2024 20:01

Seriouslyhowcouldyounot · 15/09/2024 19:13

Oh and perimenopause is no joke. I can do several hours between pees or seemingly every 20 minutes 🤷‍♀️

@Seriouslyhowcouldyounot ah peri. Well I was like this post menopause, needed to wee and getting cystitis. Thanks to Mumsnet members after six months of one useless med after another my GP caved and prescribed estriol cream. What a difference to my bladder that has been. Go see your GP

Melodysmum12 · 15/09/2024 20:02

Jesus Christ get a grip! 25 mins to hold in a wee is no biggie. Water infection or not! You’re drinking alcohol so your infection can’t be that bad. Have a wee before he goes in ffs! If it’s that desperate squat in the garden!

All the women on here saying you will realise when your older and implying it's impossible for an older lady to go more then 20 minutes without using a toilet how does that work when your at work as in my job I can't just go to the toilet as I please I have to get cover so if that was happening every 20 minutes that would be a big problem also I work with all age groups and nobody is going to the toilet that often

No that's not what anyone is saying. Women's bladders can become weakened for obvious reasons and it's not the frequency with which we need the loo, it's the urgency!

100% behind this and the medical reasons behind it
100% still feel that the OP is being reasonable & is being disrespected given circumstances

Purspectiveplease · 15/09/2024 20:03

Pee in his shoes.

Yes, it's a big problem that society doesn't cater for women's basic needs.

What happens? What do you think the options are?

Thinking out loud - get a job at a better employer, quit work or regularly wet yourself because your employer doesn't provide an environment suitable for workers with weak bladders. You are aware that Tena lady is a thing, yes?

And no, people aren't saying that all older women go to the toilet every 20 minutes.

What we are saying is that when you reach a certain age, for many of us, when you need to go, it's urgent and no, you can't wait 20 minutes.

There might be 3 hours between wees, but when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 15/09/2024 20:06

samanthablues · 15/09/2024 19:16

Can you go to the pub across the street? If you're in rural area the bushes are your best friend and if this is an ongoing thing why not build one of those organic loos with compost in the backyard/garden JUST for emergencies? Let your hubby have his 30 mins bath, not the end of the world really....

I mean, the OP is being unreasonable but only on mumsnet is this a perfectly plausible response. The fuck is pissing in the bushes when there is perfectly good plumbing inside.

allmyliesaretrue · 15/09/2024 20:06

Foxxo · 15/09/2024 19:56

and not everyone is the same as you, so keep your 'you have a lot to learn' to yourself.

No need for the fucking rudeness!!! Keep that to yourself!!!

Maybe you will experience this deeply unpleasant situation for yourself. It's common.

Completelyjo · 15/09/2024 20:06

@llamalines If the DH doesn't like it, he can make sure he lets the OP have a wee first, as she's suggested.

Thats not what she’s suggested though, she already goes right before he gets in, she things she should just be able to walk in at any point she wants during the next 25 mins.

What a stupid thing to argue about. Just use a bucket. I have a camping bucket with a toilet seat and lid on it in the understands cupboard just in case of emergencies.

mixigoc176 · 15/09/2024 20:08

If marriage is letting someone walk into the bathroom to use the toilet while I'm having a bath... No, thanks. You can keep it.

You're married and you both lock the door when you have a bath or shower?

What's weird about that? I'd like uninterrupted alone time 😂 without someone coming in to pee ( we have 3 loos he's just lazy)

I think you should get a potty.

I think she shouldn't have to do any such undignified thing!!

Would you seriously use a potty?!!

thestudio · 15/09/2024 20:11

Actually, I think it's pretty selfish to stop someone with a urine infection entering the one bathroom just so you can have a wank.
