use re useable wipes for a baby/toddler?? I get saving the planet etc etc but surely too far?!

Sprogonthetyne · 15/09/2024 18:18

Pop them in the wash and it's fine. No grosser the getting baby sick all over you or cleaning up after potty training accidents. Why would it be an issue?

Posithor · 15/09/2024 18:19

Why? Do you throw your pants away after each wear? Or chuck everything when a child has an accident?

...they also clean poo up much more easily. Wish I'd invested in reusable nappies now I'm onto my third I feel it's a bit late to start!

Berga · 15/09/2024 18:19

Guess what OP, people even use reusable nappies.

devildeepbluesea · 15/09/2024 18:19

Do you know how washing machines work?

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 15/09/2024 18:19

You know people wash them? They don’t just use the same one over and over without washing 😁

UmmJsTL3 · 15/09/2024 18:20

I just think it’s gross… we don’t do that as adults!!!

OP posts:
Idontjetwashthefucker · 15/09/2024 18:20

Nothing gross about it. Why do you think it is?

Isseywith3witchycats · 15/09/2024 18:20

funny how women kept their children clean for thousands of years before wipes were invented, one use ones are so bad for the planet and washable ones are just an upgrade from flannels

Some people do. You can get/make reusable loo roll

MarvellousDay · 15/09/2024 18:21

Why do you think they are gross.. I found they were amazing and much better to clean. If their nappy leaks surely you don't throw away the outfit. This is similar. You also don't throw away your underwear after every use. If you don't think your washing machine does a good enough cleaning job you need another one.

@mumtoababygirl i was not aware of this. Awful.

Plenty of people do use reusable wipes as adults.

Washing machines are very effective these days.

FirstTimeHomeowner · 15/09/2024 18:23

I'm with you OP 🤢

Irrationally I know, because the points others bring up make total sense. But it's still a no from me!

ITriedToStopSwearingButICunt · 15/09/2024 18:23

How do you think people managed before wipes became common 30ish years ago?
Wipes are terrible for the environment.

Clumsy12345 · 15/09/2024 18:25

I agree op but then i wouldn’t use reusable nappies either

Daschund · 15/09/2024 18:25

I never used them (for young babies it was cooled boiled water and cotton wool and later wipes), but as I know how to wash I'd use them and reusable nappies if I had DC now

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 15/09/2024 18:26

I used bamboo face cloths. If I wouldn't need 4000 a day now I'd still use them as "family cloth"

Really easy and way more effective. I used to take them out dry and have a wet bag with me to put them in after use. I used cloth nappies too.

You just rinse and sterilise them and wash on hot in the machine.

I’m with you OP. And funny how many of these planet saving ideas end up generating more work for women. I’ve not yet seen the idea that has men washing shitty cloths.

What on earth?!!!

OP, I used no wipes at all for face & hand washing. I used face cloths. I bought a pack of 4 and chucked the one I’d used that day into the washing machine. I even Kept them for DS2. I had no intention of using disposable wipes if not necessary.

It's not necessarily more work i used to use flannels

purchase once
put in bucket of napisan
put in washing machine when 20 have been used.

There is no rule as to who had to throw things in the washing machine

I find the men in my life more than capable

Dh know how to use the washing machine. He also did most of the pegging out when we used washable nappies.

Ossoduro2 · 15/09/2024 18:35

I have a massive pile in a drawer in the kitchen and we use them for wiping hands and faces after dinner and then chuck them in the wash. They’re just a tiny flannel. Much more effective and cheaper than endless packs of baby wipes.
