..To be mortified at the treatment of rape victims at the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre?

No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

Angry is the word I'd use.

Same old shit. Women don't matter as much as men.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/09/2024 07:19

Checking reaction to this from TRAs and the Guardian. Crickets.

This case almost more than any other highlights the absurdity of society pretending males can be women.

334bu · 13/09/2024 07:20

I am shocked that so many people on this site consider the OP unreasonable. In what universe is it acceptable for a raped woman to be turned away from a rape crisis centre just because they wanted assurance that their counsellor would be a woman. 4% unreasonable 😱FFS.

I'm not.

There's enough people who regularly scold and disrupt and demonstrate their contempt for women on here.

One by one, the TRA edifice crumbles and the truth comes to the light.

All of us women who were called bigots and worse for years deserve a public apology.

In the meantime, thank Goddess for JKR.

TheKeatingFive · 13/09/2024 07:34

So at least 40 people, on this site for mums, feel that women shouldn't have the right to female only counselling.

That Wadhwa's desire to 'keep it fun' for himself and his instinct to trap these vulnerable women for his own validation was more important.

God almighty, what a time to be alive 🤦‍♀️

Yes thank God.

But I've long since concluded that we are never going to get the slightest of acknowledgement for being right all along.

It'll all be about how we made the debate too toxic and difficult for them or something. Some total nonsense to make sure they never have to face up to their own failings.

RedToothBrush · 13/09/2024 07:36

If I was told it was illegal to ask for female only services, I would not try and get help.

Ive already had major issues with falling through the cracks in mental health services which have shocked people.

It is appalling.

It is a downright disregard for the most vulnerable women in society. So vulnerable that they have no services at all. Unlike those who claim to be women. And have taken it upon themselves to go out of their way to remove access to services for women.

They cite bigotry as the excuse rather than acknowledging just how deeply harmed, damaged, afraid and vulnerable these women are. That's how much they hate women.

The most vulnerable and harmed women are humiliated, punished and lectured about how their feelings are wrong and they are evil for having these feelings by people who claim they are improving society and helping women.

It's warped, twisted and fundamentally abusive.

So much this

This is what 'inclusion' really means - taking what women need, to give men what they want. And then berating and shaming the women who object.

TRAs have deliberately targeted the places where women are most vulnerable, whether it's public toilets and changing rooms, or hospitals, prisons and support charities.

This is what #bekind actually is - damage women so men are happy.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 13/09/2024 07:52

He's gone, thank fuck. No apology though. The fact that he wasn't sacked is a disgrace.

Yes and it's damaging women so the worst kind of men can be happy. So the abusers can be happy, as happened in this case. It's using women for the wants of abusive men.

As a PP said thank Goddess for JKR - who has single handedly provided support for women in Edinburgh that the state - despite spending millions of taxpayers money I'm sure - has abjectly failed to do. I know she's got a brilliant team at Beira's place but without JKR it wouldn't have happened.

I am so thankful every day for everything she is and does. At least there is one person I can point to for my daughters as a role model. All the politicians and institutions have failed them.

Dumbledoreslemonsherbets · 13/09/2024 07:57

He'll have had money to grease the wheels of him going. It's a disgrace, he should have been fired and he should be stripped of his pension - he used his position to abuse women.

He should be up on criminal charges of coercive control for what he put RA through (and the women he 'counselled').

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/09/2024 20:47

I've said this on numerous threads before, men need to pull their weight.

I've worked and volunteered in male (and majority male) services including shelters, prisons, housing, ex-offender provision. Guess what sex the staff were in the main in most of the social provision... female. In the women's services, guess which sex... also female. The managers were sometimes male but the people doing the work were female. Fundraising... female. Campaigning... female. Advocating... female.

If there's any real cash or influence to be had... male. But the actual work is done by women.

Men need to do all the above. Not just throw their hands up and ask women why they don't do even more. Considering they have most of the power, money, influence and spare time for bloody 'hobbies'. Take off the Lycra and do some unpaid labour.

What you shouldn't do is take the important position at the head of an organisation which should only go to a much better qualified woman.

Hard agree. And don't forget all the lesbians who gave years of their valuable time during the AIDS crisis to nurse sufferers, raise awareness, march and fundraise.

This despite lesbians being the lowest risk group.

We have ALWAYS done the work for vulnerable men. The idea that after all that, we don't deserve our OWN rape crisis spaces...and we can't even have a thread to discuss it without people derailing to make it about MEN....I can't even.

Men should go look after their own. Goddess knows they do it well enough in all other areas of life. We don't owe them our rape crisis spaces, and we don't owe them campaigning and fundraising for male spaces. They should go get their own.

no no, SHE is the victim - just read HER Wikipedia page

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mridul_Wadhwa?wprov=sfti1#Harassment

filthy TERFS ruined HER Life and got in the way of HER helping people.

Whilst every media source, like Wikipedia, is so captured, the battle will never be won because most people think a man in a dress, practically masturbating to their horror stories, was a victim.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.

Well said. And in this case the poster claiming that men were hard done by and somehow less well served than women, using their own numbers, showed that men actually get more provision than women!

Even when women are less well served and disadvantaged, men complain.

But that really just sums up transideology. It's that attitude on steroids.

I'm sure I'm not the only woman who's sick of it.

I volunteer and donate a lot, but these days I only do so for the benefit of women and girls, exclusively.

From Wikipedia (my bold)

On 13 August 2021, the Scottish Green Party issued a statement in solidarity with Mridul Wadhwa after the abuse, denouncing the spread of misinformation about the crisis centres and resulting abuse which posed a threat to survivors and workers at the centre.[17][18] By Autumn 2021, as a result of the harassment and following police advice and consultations with security experts, the ERCC ended their open door policy, and installed both an intercom system for access and a reinforced inner door.[8]

This claim comes from this article.

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/5050/trans-scotland-mridul-wadhwa-for-women-scotland/

However during the court case one of the women defending the centre's actions was asked if there had been threats received at that time and she said there had not. So either she was lying under oath or Wadhwa/Open Democracy were dishonestly exaggerating in the article.

Have you read their totally neutral and unbiased (/s) entry on gender-critical feminism?

frustratedhuman · 13/09/2024 08:34

I'm not shocked that over 40 women voted for women not to have access to female only counselling for rape. I used to work with an academic who specialised in helping women who'd been abused or raped, claimed she was a feminist. She's a raging TRA, who believed that a man with a beard in a dress has the same rights as a female. She was loudly, sneeringly abusive about anyone who questioned this and thought it was fine to medicalise kids and stop their puberty. Absolutely incomprehensible bullshit from someone with a post doctorate.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/09/2024 08:34

I have, and many others, including the edit warring on the Talk pages, which is always fascinating.

It’s a lie. A completely fabricated lie, cooked up to make a man in a dress appear a victim

The lie is then perpetuated by Wikipedia - the number one result when you google their name

The the lie BECOMES the TRUTH because most people have not the time to delve into the details.

a man who asked rape victims if they orgasmed has made himself a victim at the cost of hundreds of female rape survivors and he has now been paid off, his reputation long term is intact and he will do this again.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

As a mental health professional who has worked in this type of service I am horrified that any of this has happened and so grateful for JKR setting up and funding an actual women only service. Telling raped women that they are transphobic and need to "reframe their trauma" is the pinnacle of misogyny.

i wonder if Irving Walsh or Ian Rankin would like to step up and do the same for a man's facility?
