I’m planning a trip and I’m curious about people’s experiences with hotels. What’s the best hotel you’ve ever stayed out and what made it stand out? Whether it’s the service, location, amenities, or something else, I’d love to hear your top recommendations!

Westin Bayshore in Vancouver - amazing views over Vancouver harbour, fantastic room, great breakfast.

But a special mention to two B&B - Harlington Manor and Llwynhelig Manor. Harlington Manor is near Milton Keynes and is the most amazing place, full of history and the owner is a wonderful welcoming host. The other B&B is in South Wales, best bed I've ever slept in, very dog friendly and very peaceful.

The Bellagio in vegas. Massive hotel, amazing rooms and service. But it has spoiled every holiday since as nowhere has been as good!

Mine has to be the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. I worked in travel at the time and a contact managed to get me a great deal. My DS was 7 at the time and absolutely loved it. We had our own butler, who spoiled him with little treats every day. We came back each night to a full fruit bowl, sweet, chocolates and drinks. I had my clothes ironed and he did my sons bath with bubbles for him.

The food was fantastic, service anmazing and all the staff made such a fuss of my DS.

Wapa di Ume in Bali. Villa with private pool, unbelievably reasonable room service, completely left alone apart from when we needed stuff and then it appeared almost instantly. Set among rice paddies in Ubud.

I've never been so relaxed in my whole life as I was there.

Capella Singapore, we had a pool villa which was beautiful. The service in the bar was probably the best I have had anywhere, the second you made eye contact someone would be over to take your order. They also brought me a complimentary bottle of Moët on my birthday.

Also the Gilpin in the Lake District was wonderful.

Hotel Caruso in Ravello. Stunning buildings and views, impeccable service, extreme luxury. Can't afford it post kids, though!

Also a fan of the Six Senses in Oman.

Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii. Service, location, views, food, cocktails - 100% perfection!

I think this too! I loved the friendly ray in the lagoon.

Borgo Santo Pietro in Tuscany. It was like staying in a friend’s home, if they were a billionaire. No menus, you could literally ask for anything you wanted and they’d make it for you. They had their own wine cellar and you could just go and pick out a bottle that you fancied. There were also no prices on anything which was unnerving- I guess it was one of those “if you have to ask you can’t afford it” situations. But luckily my DH’s work was paying. Those were the days! I still dream of going back there. I cried when we left.

The Slieve Russell in Cavan, Ireland. We were there to meet previously unknown family who were amazing and the hotel literally hugged us into Ireland from the minute we arrived. Lovely room, food, pool, grounds, staff, everything. We are hoping to go back this Xmas!

La Manoir aux Quatre Saisons. Or however it's spelt!
The attention to detail was incredible. We arrived at the parking lot and they took our name. By the time we parked and walked to the main door we were greeted by their name - it was like being guests at a large country house. Our room was amazing. The food, as one would expect, fabulous. We sat in the drawing room and were given amuse bouches, then escorted to our table. So romantic.
When we left there was a risotto dish I loved so asked if it was in any of the Raymond Blanc books on sale. It wasn't but they got the chef to print off a copy for me!
It was first class from the second we arrived til the moment we left.
On another end of the scale I've always loved Hotel America in the grounds of the Alambra Palace in Granada. Nothing to do with America at all. It's a lovely, reasonably priced, small hotel within the grounds. It's a unique, quirky, friendly place. I've stayed there about three/four times. Sitting in the courtyard for breakfast is magical.

Asia Gardens spa hotel - about 30 miles form Alicante. 7 swimming pools all different styles, it's laid out like an Asian oasis with lakes and tropical gardens, little paths between the individual buildings and gardens. The spa was also out of this world. I don't like long haul flights so this was a shortcut to Thai spa!

We are removing this while we do some checks behind the scenes.

The Residence, Mauritius. Beautiful hotel, fantastic location and amazing staff.

I have stayed in a few expensive hotels, but I have come to prefer simpler, hotels with something about them, not necessarily expensive, with loads a facilitiesthat we don't use. In the last couple of years my favourite have been Hotel Le Galion on the front in St Martin de Re on the Ile de Re. Small hotel, small rooms, small pool, but in a lovely location, good friendly staff, and loads of restaurants in the town. Similarly, we stayed in a small boutique hotel in the centre of Mijas. Hotel Opuntia is in an old townhouse, fully modernised with lovely rooms overlooking the Central courtyard. Excellent breakfast under the orange trees in the courtyard, no dinner served, but Mijas is full of restaurants to suit any budget. A magical place for a couple of nights. https://opuntia-hotel.com/

Zighy Bay in Oman was amazing - we went there for our honeymoon.

In this country I love Clivdedon. Another poster said you are treated like royalty which is true. I stayed over for a work event and nothing was too much trouble (and we got away with some rather debauched behaviour).

Most recent favourite Uk hotel is The Tawny in Staffordshire. It’s a ‘deconstructed’ hotel with gorgeous lodges in the most beautiful setting round a lake in acres of grounds. Very peaceful.

Donsyb · 12/09/2024 18:09

The Savoy due to service and cleanliness. Service was exceptional and there wasn’t a spec of dust in the room.

MMUmum · 12/09/2024 18:25

Kibg Edward in Toronto. Closer to home Holiday Inn Aytoun Street Manchester, it's an open lobby hotel and the restaurant area is so relaxed and homely, with Oasis song lyrics painted on the walls and interesting nick nacks in display cabinets dotted about, I just love it.
