I’m planning a trip and I’m curious about people’s experiences with hotels. What’s the best hotel you’ve ever stayed out and what made it stand out? Whether it’s the service, location, amenities, or something else, I’d love to hear your top recommendations!

Depends on what the best entails. The Witchery in Edinburgh is amazing, as it is so unique, it also has an excellent restaurant. It's not the best if we are talking Luxe.

That was for gingercat02

The best hotel in London is The Londoner IMO; service amazing!

SorrelForbes · 11/09/2024 21:05

For the history/provenance:
Hotel Negresco - Nice
and Plaza Hotel

For amazing service.
The Four Seasons - NYC

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 11/09/2024 21:06

The Chedi, Muscat
Zighy Bay, Oman

Singapore - Raffles for the ambience, Mandarin Oriental for the breakfast and excellent all-round service.

MBS for the opulence of the suite and the view. But the pool is people soup and the overall ambience is spoiled by wealthy gamblers and their hangers-on and the fawning over them by the staff to the detriment of everyone else.

Claridges. The service is amazing. I want to die there - I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be when the time comes.

A hotel in Germany...we arrived wet through, no where I stay after 2 hours of trying different hotels, everyone was full, and through the rain I saw a hotel with five stars ..I said to dh let's go in there...he laughed and said no we not 5 star...I went in as tbh I was so wet I didn't care...he followed...we got lucky the owner was on the desk...I politely if there was any rooms whilst dripping water on the floor...owner said one room was available for two nights and took us to see the room..it was like a dream....I explained our budget which wasn't great....she smiled and said that's what the room is on for and that includes use of the hotel spA etc and evening meal, breakfast...I never have ever stayed at such wonderful place...it was a dream for two.nights....the food was out of this world and that evening meal after our evening swim in the best pool and hot tub I even been in was out of this world....we got champagne to start with on our evening meal...hotel was the centre of a stunning market town....we dreaded the price at the end of the stay (in case we misunderstood ) but it was what were we told...I know the hotel name and looked to book it a year later and several times since..the price was x 1000 what we paid for two nights for one night....I have amazing memories and the most amazing photo of dh and i on the rooftop spa in the hot tub...I will return when we win the lottery...best hotel I have ever stayed at....German Bavaria area...

This was lovely to read, I think we all deserve to have at least one luxury hotel ecperience in our lifetime and yours sounds like a great one

Sorry re bad spelling, punctuation etc. I think we got lucky that day and kinda when we needed it as we had an awful day as literally it been tipping it and everywhere was full and it was looking like we have to sleep in the car. Slightly outing as there can't be many English couples arriving dropping rain water all over the floor, although it was a few years ago now...pre dd so over 8 years ago. The owner was lovely and dh and I felt she offered the deal as the room was empty but because we looked so wet...think drowned rats...My dream is to return one day. It was Hotel EDELWEISS Berchtesgaden.

Forestis, Dolomites

LastTimeLosingIt · 11/09/2024 22:15

The Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur. Had our own private bungalows with sunken baths that had a view out to the gardens with all the monkeys playing. We had a private butler 24/7 who ran the bath for me sprinkled the water with rose petals.

We had broken down the dessert on the way there so looked an absolute fright when we got there, but what a treat it was to stay there. President Clinton had just been there too.

CVK · 11/09/2024 22:19

Amanpulo - The Philippines
Villa San Michele - Fiesole

DibbleDooDah · 11/09/2024 22:19

The Nautilus in the Maldives.

Our accommodation was bigger than our house at home and our private pool enormous. Our butler could read our minds. Housekeeping always came when we were out so never saw them. Lots of surprise treats and food out of this world. You didn’t even have to go off the menu - you could literally order anything you liked and chef could / would make it for you. Plus the stunning location.

We were left a large inheritance which could ONLY be spent on travel. My brothers went on a couple of smaller trips and we blew it on the trip of a lifetime. It was worth every penny.

This one. So beautiful.

CheeseWisely · 11/09/2024 22:22

Purana Boutique Hotel in Bali. One bedroom Villa with a private pool. A little restaurant if you wanted to be a bit social otherwise all meals served at your villa (and at Bali prices, not western prices). No other facilities aside from a car and driver available whenever needed, but we didn't feel the need for any other facilities. Other than a couple of trips with the driver we just holed up there in a bubble.

The 5* Anantara in Bali was very, very disappointing in comparison.

Camp Estate, LARNACH Castle, Dunedin, New Zealand. Art Deco splendour.
