I’m cold. But also poor so I’m doing my best to keep it off!

I'm hoping because it has been a cold wet Summer in Scotland that I won't really notice September being any different. We had colder days in July. I am going to aim to not put it on until Nov! Anyone got one of those electric throw blankets? Wondering that will be a good investment

belugaheightss · 09/09/2024 22:21

Had it on twice today for 5 minutes, the time has come! Luckily for us it heats up super quickly though so longer isn't needed

bridesmaid1024 · 09/09/2024 22:23

South East here and nope; not yet.
Windows and back door open all day ... I did put socks on earlier as my feet were cold; if I'm chilly I'll pop my dressing gown on

TeamPolin · 09/09/2024 22:24

Nope, definitely not cold enough here - East Anglia

Chypre · 09/09/2024 22:25

If I don't get the heating on for an hour here and there (downstairs for an hour right before waking up and sorting out breakfast, upstairs for an hour before bedtime) I will have whole house taking turns for an hour long hot showers, and frankly I'd be at the front of the queue! So - yes, I did. But strategically! And only for 2 days so far.

Just how warm is it where you are?

It is most definitely autumn here in South Yorkshire. It has rained all weekend and all morning today. It cleared up this afternoon and we scraped 14 degrees today. Temperatures this week - 12, 9, 11,11. Most definitely not fan weather.

Its not very hot only got up to about 19/20 today but the sun came out this afternoon and it still feels a little humid despite the two huge we’ve had over the weekend! So the fans help with that upstairs. Wouldn’t need them downstairs for example.

Forecast says 19 tomorrow, 15 Weds and Thurs then back up to 18 for Friday and the weekend. So ok for September.

Anisty · 09/09/2024 22:28

Scotland here and it's been glorious today. Raining now but not cold as the day's sun warmed the house up.

Not gonna lie though - i think i have had it on twice over this past month. And, as soon as i feel it cold, it will be on.

Those electric ponchos from Lakeland are great if you are watching the pennies - though the initial outlay is dear. One for your Christmas stocking!

No, but I'm in Surrey and it's still relatively warmish. Definitely chilly enough in the evening to warrant draping the fleecy blankie over my ankles though.

However we spent 5 days in the Lake District week before last, it rained every single day and we did put the heater on in the cottage we rented, it was much chillier up there (plus we're Southern Softies).

We’ve been in the Lakes before when it’s been misty or raining maybe high teens. Weather at home in the south people were at the beach with 27c. It’s mad how a few hours in the car can have such a change in weather.

MeAgainAndAgain · 09/09/2024 22:30

I’ve been in knickers and T-shirt all day today. I kind of thought I’ll get dressed when I’m cold, but I never got cold enough. I’ll be like this for another hour or so I think.

Dreamskies · 09/09/2024 22:30

No, it isn’t cold (north west)

amigafan2003 · 09/09/2024 22:31

Nope - it's on a schedule so wont come on no matter what until 1st Nov and even then the house would need to drop to below 18c between 07:00 and 21:00.

Meant to say two thunderstorms!

Scottishskifun · 09/09/2024 22:34

We have a hive system which is still set for 15 degrees it hasn't kicked in yet but I was using a blanket this evening.

We will probably put a fire on towards the end of the week but it's due to drop to 4 degrees overnight North East Scotland.

I use heated blankets when it gets cold enough they are amazing and cheap to run too.

Teajenny7 · 09/09/2024 22:34

Home counties and mine clicked on this morning. It has done a few times over the 'summer'!

ThinWomansBrain · 09/09/2024 22:37

I'm not sure whether it was cold one evening last week, or just that my feet were inexplicably cold, put I put my alpaca bed socks on. My feet had warmed up again when I woke up in the night & I took them off again.

Yes absolutely love mine! I work from home a lot of the time so put it over me on about 4. Saved me a fortune last winter! I have fleece one sidd and a pattern ontop so it's fairly thick.

GrumpyMiddleAgedCow · 09/09/2024 22:41

Yes..though you can always trust Scotland to be cold 😂 not for any length of time but maybe an hour to take the chill out x

StMarieforme · 09/09/2024 22:51

No. I'm Midlands and my living room is still a steady 22 degrees, bedroom 23.

Terraced house which helps I think.

Did you mean insulated or are you horrified at the idea of having heating on😓? (Meant to be a sweating imoji!)

Hahaha

sorry insulated!!!!!

also @JudgeJ who noticed my typo

feellikeanalien · 09/09/2024 22:54

We're in the wilds of Northumberland and I did put the fire on tonight just to take the chill off but definitely not cold enough for central heating. Plus DD and I have some sort of coldy bug. Came down with it after her first day back at school🙄 Did have it on for a couple of hours one day last week in a desperate attempt to get washing to dry without that yukky smell after not having had a day without rain for ages.

Elizo · 09/09/2024 22:55

Late October, not before.

TheChosenTwo · 09/09/2024 22:59

Ours just clicks in when it drops down in temperature. I don’t think it’s come on yet but we are in the SE and our house is very well insulated.

mondaytosunday · 09/09/2024 23:06

London. No - back doors are open all day. I did put on the gas fire tonight though! More to make it cosy rather than from necessity.

To ask if you’ve put your heating on yet?!
TragicMuse · 09/09/2024 23:08

I had to put a fan on yesterday! So no! It won't go on till December probably. And then not much or often. I earn pretty well but the days of running the heating as and when I want to are gone.

It's rugs and hotties all the way.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 09/09/2024 23:18

No way, it was 27 degrees here on Friday!

We have the back door open pretty much all day while we're home still.
