I’m cold. But also poor so I’m doing my best to keep it off!

No we still need fans going some nights ( north west). Only just got my cardis out.

EasternStandard · 10/09/2024 19:10

No but I'm in London so not too bad so far, and I prefer to wait as long as possible

NeverEnoughPants · 10/09/2024 19:15

PeachSloth · 10/09/2024 17:37

They’ve had some today but nothing lying yet.

Ah, I wasn't thinking about the tops of the mountains, and I guess the met office wasn't either!

Loulo6098 · 10/09/2024 19:15

It's on. If it weren't on, our clothes would never dry. It's dark and damp here in the south east, but colleagues up north seem to have had better weather recently.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/09/2024 23:14

I'm not quite sure with some of you if it's purely a cost thing( which I do understand)or some kind of weird Spartan endurance test for those with fuller wallets. My rented house which is not massive but 1500 sq ft Victorian and has stone walls but good modern heating and thermostats , good windows is kicking in at various points most days now (and a fair few in summer too) and is set at 20.5 at moment. I tried it a few days set at 17 or so this spring and can honestly say I was absolutely freezing all the time. It has been very wet here in Bath though a lot of the year and we live in a hilly bit too - we are even getting fog in an evening some days

needingadviceandthoughts · 10/09/2024 23:23

Thinking about it !

We just prefer a lower temperature in the house, and dislike the stuffiness the heating brings, so we warm ourselves first. 19C is plenty for us - plus socks and slippers, a hoody or warm jumper, and sometimes a fleecy blanket later in the evening if not moving around.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 09/09/2024 19:51

Nope, still have my windows open and would have my patio doors open except I don't want moths flying in.

Perimenopause seems to have given me a personal central heating system, and DH and the kids never seem to feel the cold at all.

Keep going like this, it'll be November before I put mine on.

Last year I didn't wear a coat at all for the whole winter!! One perk of perimeno...

JohnTheRevelator · 11/09/2024 02:12

No! It was 18 degrees outside today. I don't put mine on until it drops to around 12 degrees.

coxesorangepippin · 11/09/2024 02:24

I'm sorry but 12 degrees inside?

That's friggin freezing man

With me it's about my carbon footprint. I got a heat pump to solve most of that, but that still relies on electrical power which is partly sourced from natural gas. So I don't use my heating or cooling more than I have to.
But I think you may be partly right about the Spartan thing. Some people do like to physically challenge themselves and I am one of them.

Tinybirdie · 11/09/2024 02:53

Loads of times all through the supposed Scottish summer. I loathe being cold indoors. I need the downstairs to be at least 20. The bedroom can be as cold as it wants as I am toasty under my duvet.
I'm 150 a month for gas and electric and have an electric car.

Cost and preference both for me
Luckily I prefer it colder! I'm happy around 16-18c and have never had my heating above 19c since I moved in 18 years ago

RosannaSpider · 11/09/2024 03:28

This is what throws and jumpers are made for

TwinklyNight · 11/09/2024 03:56

Just my electric fireplace, for about an hour.

Devilsmommy · 11/09/2024 04:41

Windmillsofyourminds · 10/09/2024 19:08

Today it is 17 degrees in my house and I am cold. I have four layers on and a throw over me when sitting down. I think I need to get my warmer duvet. Despite this, it is not time for the heating yet. The most I do is a fan heater for 5 minutes when getting dressed and undressed.
For those who have the heating set at 21, 22 or 23 degrees, how much do you pay in heating? I pay £200 a month and last winter was paying over £300 with a maximum of 19 degrees set. I have to wear a lot of clothes.

I only put mine on at night when thermostat dips to 20. Pop it up to 22. I pay £60 a month for gas all year so for all those months I haven't used the heating, it pays for all the winter use. I've got a 2 year old who won't sleep with a blanket so have to have heating on 😅

AgentJohnson · 11/09/2024 05:51

Heating on, no. Fan on, hell yes! The hot flush struggles are very real.

My dilemma is whether to risk wearing my colourful suede trainers when the wether can go from bright sunshine to monsoon like downpours in a nano second.

AgentJohnson · 11/09/2024 06:04

My first post was a little flippant but I have been where you have been and it was soul destroying.

Five years ago I moved from an apartment with a G rating to an A+ energy rating. That coupled with underfloor heating and solar panels that services the communal lighting, means that our lives have been emotionally and physically transformed. The highest I have ever paid was 110 euros in December 22, which is half of what I was paying before the crisis in my last apartment. My last apartment would have bankrupted me.

MiddleAgedDread · 11/09/2024 06:57

15.3 in my living room this morning for all those saying it’s not cold 🥶🥶

RampantIvy · 11/09/2024 07:35

It must have been cold last night because our heating has come on this morning.

DH is very underweight (health issues) and feels the cold very easily. "This is what jumpers and throws are for" doesn't work for him when his hands are too cold to type.

Fortunately, we are able to minimise our carbon footprint with our solar panels.

We spent many cold winters (when night time temperatures were well below zero) huddled round a small gas fire that we kept on low, and do not want to go back to living like that.

Anyone remember the winter of 1981/1982?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 11/09/2024 07:52

It’s cold this morning here in Yorkshire. Got a 9 year old and 1 year old so need to make sure it’s kept warm for them. We have hot water bottles, blankets and dressing gowns or oodies. Dh said yesterday that we need to order logs for the fire. I might start collecting fire lighters and kindling shortly. Need to clear garage out for the logs to be stored. Oh and a fire guard this year too!

Flossyts · 11/09/2024 07:53

No as we still keep leaving the back door wide open so it can’t be that bad! I did stick the wood burner on the other night though

Nothing to do with "weird Spartan endurance" and everything to do with genuinely not feeling cold at 17 degrees indoors.

I work in/out of peoples homes and find the vast majority of them are too hot - to the point that I get headaches and start feeling unwell. Last time I wrote that on a thread on here I got roundly criticised though Grin

Anything above 19 is genuinely too hot for me.

Alevelnamechange · 11/09/2024 08:03

Dew on the ground, condensation on the window, I'm wearing a roll neck jumper... maybe today's the day.

South East.

Below 20 degrees is winter for me 😂
