Lighthearted post.

Just that really 🤣 I’m very new to vinted. So let’s hear your Vinted horror stories!

You might need that £1 though. We aren't talking top end retail here. We're talking people desperate for money who need to save that 20p

Never bought, only sold. It’s not that deep.

You said you were new to selling on Vinted so which is it? It's on to start a thread discussing Vinted without it being based on your actual experience.

Ah then we are on the same page. I think sellers would do well to not get sneery over their potential buyers who are buying their cast offs.

Would use it a lot more (as a seller) if buyers selected normal post from the Post Office or Royal Mail (not sure if this is even an option but no buyer has ever selected it for my items). With buyers selecting the courier and, therefore, the drop off points then if you don't live near the nearest drop off then any 'profit', on a couple of quid, is immediately lost by having to make a special trip to drop it off or risk the buyer complaining it took you ages to despatch!

Although I do find this annoying because it’s tit for tat. In the grand scheme of things it’s 20p. However, it’s the more the drastic offers on higher priced items that I find more frustrating. And the general time wasters that ask to reserve items and never get back to you.

Oooh. MN is a bit nasty today. The OP posted a lighthearted thread and she's being attacked. I think she was hoping for some amusing anecdotes rather than a character assassination.
OP, I use Vinted and have bought and sold over 600 items. Most people are great, some not.

LoveHeartsFan · 07/09/2024 14:01

I’ve put the odd thing on Vinted and always take great care to describe the item accurately, ensure it’s clean, photograph it well, highlight any defects, and be fair in pricing - fair to myself and the buyer. We don’t smoke or have any pets and I say so.

That approach generally seems to work well. I won’t sell things that are new with tags for bargain basement prices, but I will sell them with a good discount on the original price, typically a third off.

I’ve got something on new with tags that is a third off the original store price. Someone messaged this week with an offer two-thirds off the original store price. No can do on that one, that’s just cheeky when it’s already a good and reasonable discount.

I've recently sold a coat for a couple of pounds below my asking price, which was what I anticipated a serious buyer would do.

Before that, I had someone offer 40% off the asking price, which is the lowest you can offer. I declined of course without further interaction.

I had a brand new pair of Timberland boots on Vinted at 50% off the rrp, but buyer still wanted to offer 20%. Not that ridiculous since it's within the limit, but what was more galling was that they were selling a wallet at an asking price of £200!

A dear friend however was recently scammed by what I suspect to be a fake seller, selling expensive trainers.
All the danger signs were there though when I checked with her. No photo, user name consists of random letters and numbers and only 1 review which is an automated one. She will have to wait 25 days to file a non receipt claim though.

I had someone accuse me of selling them a product what wasn't the designer it actually was! Even though I purchased the item some years ago in Sloane Street. They said the stitching didn't look right - I would love them to say that to the original designer who sold them for hundreds....

This is the approach I take too.

Of course it’s a second hand selling platform, so I do expect to receive offers and have accepted lots of offers too! It’s more so the silly ones, like you describe, on brand new items with tags that I find to be just a bit tedious.

I like the idea of vinted because I've got bits that still have plenty of life in them and it would be great to recoup some money back but it's always such a fuss, buyers haggling, then you have to take stuff to different shops to send because not one shop does both yodel and evri, then the buyers who changes their mind.

I have made about £100 in the past year but the last lot really put me off as I sold £15 worth of shoes to 3 different buyers, I needed bags to send them in, spent £12 on bags.

Plus I hate having stuff in the house waiting to be sold, if I want it out, I want out so now I just take everything to the charity shop.

Jamfirstest · 07/09/2024 14:09

I make lower offers on stuff on Vinted all the time. If the buyer declines I just move on. If I really want the item I will have a think. I don't take offence if they decline.

Oh no, how did it get resolved ? They offer item verification at an additional fee. But the buyer had to pay for it.

Sellers on the other hand... got some trainers last week. Photos look good and worn twice apparently. I buy and she messages to say they are muddy shall she wash them..no longer worn twice then!

ienjoyeatingcake · 07/09/2024 12:24

I don't think the buyers are ridiculous, but the sellers are sometimes. Stupidest thing I've ever seen someone sell is coasters with tea stains, and they actually wrote - I kid you not - they just need a little clean up. YOU clean them up before you sell them!!!

This drives me insane. Or when they say that there is a 'small stain which will probably come out in the wash'. Why aren't you washing it before selling anyway?! Even worse when they describe the condition as 'very good' despite being stained, bobbled! faded etc.

Lighthearted post!

I’m new to selling on vinted but have heard lots from friends and seen online about very cheeky buyers.

I’ve had some very ridiculous offers for brand new items with tags and generally messed about. Of course you haggle and offer what you want to pay for items. Instances of being offered 79p on a £75 dress 🤣

Did anyone see the TikTok where a seller said they weren’t able to complete the order because they were distressed by the Molly Mae/ Tommy Fury break up 🙈

Really? I thought there was a minimum offer you could make and the higher the price of the item the higher the minimum offer.
