Lighthearted post.

Just that really 🤣 I’m very new to vinted. So let’s hear your Vinted horror stories!

Very true, it’s just gross. I bought something off eBay once which came in an old cardboard cat food box 🤣

Omg do people just look around their houses and think "hmm that'll do the trick for this item" 🤣
The couriers should refuse certain packaging, it's ridiculous!!

Vinted is way better than eBay- the only issue I've had is buyers not collecting their item from the pick up point and it being sent back. Although when that has happened I've always re-sold the item and got full price, not haggled down! One person did offer me £1 for an item, and I made the mistake of telling them it wasn't worth me packing it up and travelling to post it for £1. I got a barrage of abuse back, and learned that I should have just silently declined.

This reaction to a rejected offer was detailed earlier in the thread and I don't get it🥴

Buyer: Dear Seller you're selling this jumper for £22.97 can I have it for £1.00 please and you become a charity?

Seller: No you cheeky beggar

Buyer: Gives Abuse

And...

Dear Seller you're selling this jumper for £22.97 can I have it for £18 please?

Seller: No. But how about £20?

Buyer: Gives Abuse

And...

Buyer: Dear Seller you're selling this jumper for £22.97 can I have it for £20?

Seller: The item is brand new. I'm holding out for full price on this one

Buyer: Gives Abuse

It doesn't make sense. I reckon buyers giving abuse for rejected offers would give abuse no matter the reaction of the seller, bar agreement.

People giving abuse should be banned from Vinted anyway.

I find it all a bit of fun to be honest. I love a bargain and will haggle over 25p whilst sat in a coffee shop spending a tenner on coffee and a cake 🙈

I've got a lot for the kids from Boden / Next on there. My DD has one favourite pair of shorts that Boden don't make anymore. I have them in the next two sizes up (denim cut offs without bloody applique)

I hate seeing Sainsbury's / supermarket stuff on there because I can buy it as cheap. Same with Primark.

StomaAndMe · 07/09/2024 20:32

@roses2
They've recently changed their not as described policy however I am not yet clear if I still have to pay to return items. I tend to use Vinted for items ~£5 and ebay for higher priced items as ebay gives me more protection. Plus with ebay most items are exactly as described because the sellers have more risk if not.

I recently sold an item that had a mark on it that I'd not spotted; I was given the option of full refund - they kept the item or return & refund with either they pay postage or I pay the postage.

I’ve usually had a paper receipt that gives the date, time and number of parcels being sent.

InPost lockers are paperless. Once you have placed the item in the locker, shut the door and confirmed this on the screen, you can take a picture of the QR matrix and then enter your email address to receive the tracking details. However, you don't even need to do that. Once the door is closed and confirmed, you and the buyer will receive an automatic notification on Vinted stating the goods have been sent, and a guide re. delivery times. Obviously when the InPost people collect, they add the stickers and at this point, you will get another notification that the parcel is on the road.

Out of the all the delivery options available on Vinted, paperless InPost is by far the easiest.

WickerMam · 07/09/2024 21:29

My favourite is "brand new, never worn" when the seller is wearing the item in the photos.

I do like vinted, for the ability to pick the courier. I wish more shops offered this.

pinkstripeycat · 07/09/2024 21:45

Sold a pair of Next wedges for £12. Bought for £45 and worn once: I sat down in a restaurant in them then was driven home so they barely touched the floor.

Buyer offered £10. I refused so she paid £12.

Buyer SAWED the wedges off and returned them to me saying the heels “fell off”. Both wedges, at the same time (not just the sole of the shoe) “fell off” the first time she tried them on! You could clearly see she’d used a saw. The heels and toes had been scraped as she tried to get the wedges to detach from the shoes. Obviously that didn’t work so she used a saw.

Vinted asked for before pics which I sent. They then asked for pics showing the condition of the shoes how I’d received them back. They then said the pics of how they arrived back to me matched the pics then buyer sent to them! Well of course they matched because she sent them pics of my shoes she damaged.

They refunded that absolute b*ch of a buyer and my beautiful shoes went in the bin. I wish I’d have just given them to charity so someone else could have enjoyed them.

Vinted complaints said they were so sorry and they believed me that she’d damaged them but they had a process to follow.

I came off Vinted that day and have wished horrible things on that buyer ever since.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 07/09/2024 22:00

Reusing boxes is fine to send ffs

Vinted is, in part, a way to be more environmentally friendly by reducing fast fashion waste

Sending in a reused, but clean, box is better than buying new boxes...

That's terrible!

That's a particularly nasty, mean spirited individual.

I think you have to bear in mind, there are people out there who buy new things from big established shops and then contact the company lying through their teeth that the items never arrived or are damaged etc. I heard a mum of one of my nephew's school friends bragging that she does this regularly. Vile.

You'll get those same people on buying platforms like Vinted and Ebay. Yuck. Vinted should have supported you.

I made an account because I've got loads of stuff to flog! But I haven't used it yet because I'm unsure about packing and posting. What do you ladies pack items for post in and who pays, is it like eBay where I can ask the buyer to pay?

It’s really easy. You just say whether it’s a small, medium or large parcel, they give you suggestions. The buyer chooses the delivery method, most go with in the post lockers which are everywhere. What you sell it for you get in full. Much better than eBay.

Sorry forgot to say I have some mailing bags or use old bags for life, old boxes, I’ve even wrapped in a bin bag before.

Never bought, only sold. It’s not that deep.

Why did you say this earlier then? ⬇️

"I’m new to selling on vinted but have heard lots from friends and seen online about very cheeky buyers"

Are you new to selling or buying?

Vinted itself say Very Good can have slight imperfections though
They just should be listed and visible in photos

Very good to me would be worn once or twice and nothing wrong with the item. I do filter for new with and without tags now.

JerkintheMerkin · 08/09/2024 09:16

@Pumpkinthepig I always post same day. Once an item has sold I just want it gone.

Exactly, listed and visible in photos.
The PP about marks on leggings didn’t say they were mentioned, just that as the item was cheap the buyer was U to complain about a mark.

Vinted's description for Very Good is that it might have slight marks or imperfections

I sold something which I'd brought with a slight mark, never worn, as Very Good before. Why would I sell it as less than that when it wasn't worn and the mark wasn't an issue anyway?

As I said I wouldn't buy it. In general very good to me would not have marks.

ThinWomansBrain · 08/09/2024 09:58

have only discovered Vinted recently & purchased a small number of items; not sure what the buyer protection is supposed to offer - I just assumed it was the sites commission, and the seller receives the price - and liked the transparency.
Is that the case?
Personally just pay the price asked if I want the item at that price, or leave it if I'm not.
I'm astounded at the number of items from Primark/supermarkets etc that by the time you've added the postage & fees must be more expensive than they would have been new in the shop originally.

This cracks me up too 😂if I'm looking for something new with tags, I don't want to see it on you!

HazelPlayer · 08/09/2024 10:09

there are any issues ie I have to pay return postage for an item not as described to get a refund.

This.

Had to pay return postage and no opportunity to leave feedback for a significantly not as described item, from an extremely combative, nasty seller.

HazelPlayer · 08/09/2024 10:11

What you sell it for you get in full. Much better than eBay.

eBay has dropped fees for used clothing now.

Nothanks17 · 08/09/2024 10:20

Vinted doesnt let you offer below a certain percentage threshold so 79p for a £75 listing is an impossible offer

DysonSphere · 08/09/2024 10:21

@Star81 The other very annoying thing is people buying and then messaging you, can you post this asap as I need it in 4 days time.if they want to know if this is possible just message. The rules on Vinted on postage times are clear and people seem to want shop service when it’s not a shop!

@skyeisthelimit Some buyers seem to think you are a shop and expect the same service. I don't do next day delivery, I do within the vinted timeframe delivery. I don't do returns if you change your mind or it doesn't fit. I am not a shop.

I think messaging before buying is wise, but if the seller doesn't reply in a timely way, you risk someone else buying the product.

And you are acting as a shop on a host website. You are selling a product and it's value may be dependent on what the person wants it for, which is exactly the same as buying stuff in shops. If I'm going to a wedding in 5 days time and I think your dress is great and just the right thing for the occasion, then I am only motivated to buy it because of its relevance to my immediate need otherwise I won't buy it. How then is it unreasonable to ask that you post it asap? And why after paying you money for your product would you think it's somehow some special faff for me to request you pop to the post office or whatever to post it faster??

It has that ring of I'm doing the buyer a favour. No. They bought your product. I think some sellers just wish to be casual off loaders who see eBay or Vinted more akin to an online second-hand stall. I feel that's perfectly fine, but then something like Preloved or Gumtree might be more suitable to use which has a more casual feel.

Only the end posting period is hard fixed on Vinted. 'The seller has to send it before xyz date' isn't a rule precluding sending faster. It's fine to request it be delivered quicker and be prepared to pay more, though I've never had occasion to request it yet.

Yodel and Evri etc can take literal weeks to deliver (which is why I love inpost it is the most reliable and quick option). If the seller adds another 4 or more days on top of that to post, it must be annoying, especially if you had an occasion or use in mind or were just really excited about the product.
