Lighthearted post.

Just that really 🤣 I’m very new to vinted. So let’s hear your Vinted horror stories!

Only ever looked at Vinted site once and it was not for me, Im not into that rectro look.

That's your loss.

A few days ago I missed out on a brand new condition Hobbs dress listed for £22 originally selling for £99 and currently selling in the Hobbs sale for around £70 I ummm and ahhed, put a like on it and then kicked myself a couple hours later when someone got the absolute bargain.

I got this:

https://www.hobbs.com/product/anoushka-jersey-dress/0222-5205-3669L00-RED-MULTI.html#navAjax=true&sz=60&start=0&srule=price-low-to-high&cgid=sale-clothing-dresses&is=true&isSecondPage=false&pid=0222-5205-3669L00-RED-MULTI&pos=50

A few months ago, brand new never worn for £15.

I got a dress in admittedly a 'patch me up' condition, but it was nothing my sewing machine couldn't handle - for something like £90 less than the price.

And yes, Vinted is fabulous for retro or vintage items also. People going to vintage repro festivals put their stuff on there. Insta models sometimes dump the free stuff from their photoshoots on there for silly prices.

I assume you didn't really give it much of a perusal at all.

I have only had a problem once, with someone insisting there was a mark on a pair of maternity trousers. They were £2 🙄

I hate it when something is £3 and people offer £2.50. I find it really annoying.

Same, it’s so annoying isn’t it. I always decline it, because it annoys me so much.

squidgybits · 08/09/2024 19:33

Oh! forgot about the bloke about 5 years ago on ebay who demanded to buy shoes I was selling ( a friend had left them for me lol- platform, gold, glittery - think pole dancing shoes lol) , he was very abusive, to the point I screenshotted everything and removed them from sale and blocked him

There’s never any paperwork with InPost lockers. You just put the parcel in and the sticker gets put on when it’s collected by InPost.

Not so - you can get a label to print. I do.

grlpwer · 08/09/2024 19:40

I sold a £100+ pair of shoes worn once for £4. The buyer marked them as good and released the money. A week later she messaged to say she wanted a refund as the soles were trashed. She'd obviously worn them out and was trying her luck. Left me my only negative feedback.

I'm lucky that I'v had lots of great buyers who have put together bundles and release the money straight away.

squidgybits · 08/09/2024 19:23

I am a buyer and seller, most people are lovely but you get the random crazy ones - Woman bought a jacket and it was washed - then steamed before sending. Feedback said it stunk of smoke, in and outside of the package and was filthy. It wasn't, nobody smokes here. If she had just said Its not what I thought and asked for a refund , I would have been ok with it. Left negative feedback then blocked me!
They walk among us

Absolutely they do! 👀🫣

That’s so annoying! Can you appeal the feedback on there ? I take it you didn’t have chance to leave feedback for your buyer to explain the situation 😕? I add to every listing now that everything is from a pet and smoke free home.

I sell quite a bit of childrens clothes on it. Usually Zara and the like. I charge peanuts because I just want it out of the house. So something that originally cost £20 and is still in excellent condition, I'll put on for £3. And yet there is someone who will always offer £2.50. When I decline that, they will not pay the extra 50p. I don't reduce it on principle because it's dirt cheap anyway and £3 no where near covers my time devoted to P&P plus walking to the courier drop off vs say, what I'd earn per hour at work if it was calculated hourly. But still they want a "bargain" on what is already a bargain. That irks me.

Edited

I don't understand why this irks you. Regardless of what the item cost you, its now second hand and second hand clothes are worth a fraction of what new are. And surely if you just want the items out of the house, just make your prices a little higher and then when someone offers 50p less , you've sold an item for roughly what you wanted anyway? The whole point of the offer system is to allow buyers and sellers to bargain! Plus , as several have pointed out, £3 might be a bargain but by the time the seller has paid postage and fees, it's more like £7 and that's no longer such a bargain at all.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 08/09/2024 20:15

I sell a lot on Vinted now. I find it easier than eBay. I do have an issue with the stupid low offers. I absolutely understand that people want a bargain and "it's worth an ask" Sometimes though they are obviously looking to sell again. Quite often these silly offers come in a few seconds after listing. I always look at the buyers profile and see what they are selling stuff for and think " nah"
I sell a variety of our own used stuff and new with tags current season stuff. Always around half price of retail on new stuff.
My absolute weirdo of a buyer was on ebay. I was selling a coat- think collector type coat, retail up to £1k second hand. Had it on for £200 , loads of watchers. Buyer offered me the £200 prior to end of auction ( an hour or so) accepted it. Sent it etc. Gets a message saying he will need to get his tailor to redo cuffs and can I give him £20 off. I said no, send it back, I will refund in full with postage if it isn't as described. He went on and on. He then left me the most awful feedback.
EBay removed the feedback.
He didn't return the coat as it was fine and he got a good deal.

That’s awful! As an PP said abusive buyers should be banned and shouldn’t be able to make new accounts on the app.

This!

I have been keeping a eye on Vinted for Halloween tops and Christmas clothing for my DC. I seen one from two years ago primark range (I know as my eldest had a similar one I bought new) and the seller wanted £3 for it in "good" condition. By the time I factor in the buyers fee and P+P I was closer to £8 which was probably only a few £ cheaper than the original new price, if at all!

I understand everyone wants to make a good sale and make money but there is little value in day to day second hand clothes especially on a site that has additional fees.

All my secondhand clothing goes up for £1.50 in "great" condition if only worn once or twice like Christmas things, the rest goes up for £1 as its worn. The only thing I've asked more for is designer items, toys or brand new with tags on and even then it's usually 50% off RRP so still a bargain.

You can still be privately messaged by a buyer asking so although no possible through the offer system, it can still happen.

You should report them.

Bit of a sweeping statement. Can’t tar everyone with the same brush!!In what way do you think vinted buyers are ridiculous?

Debtdolly · 08/09/2024 22:24

you do get people try it on. I sold a dress that had only been worn once. Buyer said that it had a rip at the neck (where you button at back). I am 99.9% sure it wasn’t there when I posted but instead of argue I said “really sorry, please post back to me, I’ll cover cost of postage and then you’ll get a full refund”. Funny enough they never posted item back….
I also find some sellers annoying. Had a few who just never posted. I occasionally buy leotards for my daughters on there. Biggest bugbear is when they say “excellent condition, no missing gems” and there are in fact missing gems visible in picture!!

BucketBouquet · 08/09/2024 22:26

ThisFunHedgehog · 08/09/2024 18:32

This is exactly what I mean by saying that some buyers can be ridiculous.

But it ISN’T ridiculous. It’s well within the parameters of Vinted.

Debs2024 · 08/09/2024 22:48

If by buying quality items at low prices and making loads of money from selling your own is ridiculous then guilty as charged! There is etiquette though. Clean correct condition packed well sent promptly. It’s not hard however there will always be people who don’t play fair.

MartinCrieffsLemon · 08/09/2024 23:05

I was objecting to the seeming 'I'm doing the buyer a favour attitude' and 'The buyer is being unreasonable to request faster shipping'

The buyer IS being unreasonable to buy an item with a clear shipping timescale and then request you put yourself out after buying under those terms

No they aren't.

So basically 'we're all business' when it comes to my money,

But it's not business when it comes to me receiving my item?

You can refuse to post earlier. Circumstances might mean you physically can't. That's fine.

But the buyer is not bring unreasonable or a bother to ASK if you can.

And I expect you wish me to be a reasonable buyer and collect the package asap and confirm quickly so your funds can be released before two days passes?

It’s not unreasonable to ask but it is unreasonable to get the hump if I say no!

When sellers couldn’t pick and choose what methods we used, buyers would sometimes pick one that’s nowhere near me - I live in the countryside and we have very few options so I mostly have to wait until the weekend to post if it’s one that isn’t nearby so no I can’t post quicker. Wait! (And I’m so glad Vinted have made it so we can choose again!)

MartinCrieffsLemon · 09/09/2024 01:49

Wrong. I don't care how long it takes you to collect and confirm. If you don't confirm Vinted will anyway and I know life is busy

You wouldn't order from online on Standard Delivery 3-5 Working Days and then email to ask the company to send it immediately. You'd use the Next Day Delivery as that offered what you needed.

Similarly, you should ask the buyer beforehand to make sure they can meet your need rather than purchasing with a set Delivery time and then asking for quicker.@

I have fallen prey to being conned into buying moth eaten stained clothes . Very cunningly photographed to hide the flaws poor lighting angles etc Then you have to pay return postage having to already paid to have it posted to you when top has 3 giant moth holes which I have photographed to prove but if seller doesn’t agree return you have no choice but to pay all postal costs. Tracksuits bottoms worn without underwear stained 🤮 but actually Depop was worse I got sent a top with maggots you would think this would put me off secondhand but actually you can buy beautiful quality items at bargain prices sometimes in pristine condition. Any knitwear freeze it upon arrival to prevent bringing moths to your wardrobe. Who buys used tights this baffles me . Have been aproached by perverts on Ebay requesting this of running tights ?? The shocker my mother said she would have done it 😂 I could have sold £20 running tights for £100 anyway call me a cautious prude I missed an only fans op clearly .
Currently on Vinted you will see bags listed amazing bags for £5.88 with no seller review . Do not purchase ! Its a scammer under mutiple accounts silly me I bought about 5 bags thinking wow these prices are amazing in a shopping insomnia induced frenzy of course no bags are going to be posted . Customer service is bots so I have to wait 25 days and postal service is my responsibility according to new T&Cs sent through after purchasing .

My favourite is selling dirty trainers either a comment 'just need a wipe'

Then just given them a wipe FFS!

In most cases it looks like they need a bleach bath and fumigation. 😂

This is so true

BEFORE you buy. What is so hard to understand about that?

Partylikeits1985 · 09/09/2024 07:51

Buyers are no more ridiculous than some of the sellers Wink
